Knowledge Transfer in Surface Technology »Wissenstransfer Oberflächentechnik« (knowledge transfer in surface technology) aims at existing and expected potentials of modern surface technology for the german economy. The main goals are knowledge transfer, acceleration of innovation and growth of competitiveness and technological performance capability. The target group mainly consists of Small and Medium Enterprises orientated to innovation. This initiative is untertaken by the VDI‐Technology Center Düsseldorf on behalf of the German Ministery of Education and Research. Preliminary results are already available.  相似文献

Several commercial instruments size particles based on their acceleration in a high-velocity flow field. Previous work suggested that droplet distortion in these instruments resulted in inaccurate sizing. Liquid aerosol droplet shape distortion produced in an accelerating flow field was therefore computed through analytical solution of the Navier–Stokes equation for comparison to experiment. A high-Reynolds-number empirical approximation to the pressure external to the droplet was used in these calculations. Within the droplet, the longest-lived excitations correspond to a quadrupolar distortion of shape. Droplet excitations were obtained in terms of aerosol diameter, viscosity, surface tension and density. At the largest viscosities considered (as in many oils), only a damped relaxation was found, whereas at lower viscosities and high surface tension (as in water) damped capillary oscillations were predicted as possible, given rapid shifts in the surrounding air flow. In order to compute the effect of airflow varying in time, an approximate Green's function was used. The Green's function in the frequency domain was approximated using only a pair of poles, thereby accounting for only the longest-lived excitations. In application of the theory to compute aerosol distortion on passage through an aerodynamic particle sizer (APS) acceleration nozzle, the change in air velocity was found to be so gradual that no oscillations were induced for droplets as small as 20-μm diameter. Measurements of droplet undersizing in the APS compared favorably with the theoretical predictions. The theoretical results were also consistent with photographs of distorted oleic acid and only slightly distorted water droplets emerging from a nozzle.  相似文献

A nickel-based catalytic filter material for the use in integrated high temperature removal of tars and particles from biomass gasification gas was tested in a broad range of parameters allowing the identification of the operational region of such a filter. Small-scale porous alumina filter discs, loaded with approximately 2.5 wt% Al2O3, 1.0 wt% Ni and 0.5 wt% MgO were tested with a particle free synthetic gasification gas with 50 vol% N2, 12 vol% CO, 10 vol% H2, 11 vol% CO2, 12 vol% H2O, 5 vol% CH4 and 0–200 ppm H2S, and the selected model tar compounds: naphthalene and benzene. At a typical face velocity of 2.5 cm/s, in the presence of H2S and at 900 °C, the conversion of naphthalene is almost complete and a 1000-fold reduction in tar content is obtained. Technically, it would be better to run the filter close to the exit temperature of the gasifier around 800–850 °C. At 850 °C, conversions of 99.0% could be achieved in typical conditions, but as expected, only 77% reduction in tars was achieved at 800 °C.

Conversion data can be reasonably well described with first order kinetics and a dominant adsorption inhibition of the Ni sites by H2S. The apparent activation energies obtained are similar to those reported by other investigators: 177 kJ/mol for benzene and 92 kJ/mol for naphthalene. The estimated heat of adsorption of H2S is 71 kJ/mol in the benzene experiments and 182 kJ/mol in the naphthalene experiments, which points at very strong adsorption of H2S. Good operation of the present material can hence only be guaranteed at temperatures above 830 °C mainly due to the strong deactivation by H2S at lower temperatures.  相似文献

The Notch receptor protein was originally identified in Drosophila and is known to mediate cell to cell communication and influence cell fate decisions. Members of this family have been isolated from invertebrates as well as vertebrates. We isolated mouse Notch-1 in a yeast two-hybrid screen with Nur77, which is a protein that has been shown previously to be required for apoptosis in T cell lines. The data presented below indicate that Notch-1 expression provides significant protection to T cell lines from TCR-mediated apoptosis. These data demonstrate a new antiapoptotic role for Notch-1, providing evidence that, in addition to regulating cell fate decisions, Notch-1 can play a critical role in controlling levels of cell death in T cells.  相似文献

This experiment was carried out to compare the worm burden and cellular responses in the abomasal mucosa and blood of Florida Native and Rambouillet lambs and also in animals produced by crosses of these two breeds (generations F1 and F2). Animals were exposed to infection by gastrointestinal nematodes on three different occasions. The first infection was natural, occurring while they were suckling lambs. After weaning, they were kept indoors for 53 days and then were allowed to graze a contaminated pasture for 50 days for a second natural infection. The third infection was an artificial challenge with 6000 Haemonchus contortus infective larvae. The highest mean fecal egg counts (FEC) values were found in Rambouillet lambs followed in decreasing order by F1, F2 and Florida Native lambs. Throughout the trial, most of the high mean packed cell volumes and plasma protein levels were recorded in the F2 lambs; in contrast, most of the low values were found in the Rambouillet lambs. During the natural infection period, the highest percentages of larvae in the fecal cultures of the lambs were Haemonchus. However, high percentages of Trichostrongylus larvae were found particularly in Florida Native lambs. The mean number of blood eosinophils increased after the artificial challenge, reached a peak 21 days after infection and then declined. The highest and lowest blood eosinophil means were recorded in F2 and Florida Native lambs, respectively. The H. contortus burden was significantly higher in Rambouillet and in F1 lambs than in Florida Native and F2 lambs (p < 0.05), while no significant differences were recorded among eosinophil, mast cell and globule leucocyte counts in the abomasal mucosa (p > 0.05). The highest correlation coefficient recorded at the end of this study was between FEC and worm burden (r = 0.7). These two parameters showed a moderate negative correlation with PCV, plasma protein and mast cell counts in the abomasal mucosa. The results obtained in this study indicate that crossbreeding Florida Native and Rambouillet sheep can be a rapid way to combine and improve the characteristics of these two breeds. The parasitological results were promising, however, more studies will be necessary to verify the impact of crossbreeding in other traits.  相似文献

Bone development is a multistep process that includes patterning of skeletal elements, commitment of hematopoietic and/or mesenchymental cells to chondrogenic and osteogenic lineages, and further differentiation into three specialized cell types: chondrocytes in cartilage and osteoblasts and osteoclasts in bone. Although PRL has a multitude of biological actions in addition to its role in the mammary gland, very little is known about its effect on bone. Mice carrying a germline null mutation for the PRL receptor gene have been produced in our laboratory and used to study the role of PRL in bone formation. In -/- embryos, we observed an alteration in bone development of calvaria. In adults, histomorphometric analysis showed that the absence of PRL receptors leads to a decrease in bone formation rate using double calcein labeling and a reduction of bone mineral density, measured by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry. In addition, serum estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, and PTH levels were analyzed. We also established that osteoblasts, but not osteoclasts, express PRL receptors. This suggests that an effect of PRL on osteoblasts could be required for normal bone formation and maintenance of bone mass. Thus, the PRL receptor knockout mouse model provides a new tool to investigate the involvement of PRL in bone metabolism.  相似文献

The main objective of this study was to investigate the oxidative stability and non-enzymatic browning reactions of marine PL in the presence or in the absence of primary amine group from aminophospholipids and amino acids. Marine phospholipids liposomal dispersions were prepared from two authentic standards (phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine) and two purified PL from marine sources with and without addition of amino acids (leucine, methionine and lysine). Samples were incubated at 60 °C for 0, 2, 4 and 6 days. Non-enzymatic browning reactions were investigated through measurement of (i) Strecker derived volatiles, (ii) yellowness index (YI), (iii) hydrophobic and (iv) hydrophilic pyrroles content. The oxidative stability of the samples was assessed through measurement of secondary lipid derived volatile oxidation products. The result showed that the presence of PE and amino acids caused the formation of pyrroles, generated Strecker derived volatiles, decreased the YI development and lowered lipid oxidation. The lower degree of lipid oxidation in liposomal dispersions containing amino acids might be attributed to antioxidative properties of pyrroles or amino acids.  相似文献
