Twenty free-ranging guanaco (Lama guanicoe) in Chubut Province, Argentina, were immobilized for health evaluations. All but two animals appeared to be in good condition. Hematology, serum chemistry, and vitamin and mineral levels were measured, and feces were evaluated for parasites. Serology tests included bluetongue, brucellosis, bovine respiratory syncitial virus, bovine viral diarrhea/mucosal disease, equine herpesvirus 1, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, Johne's disease (Mycobacterium paratuberculosis), foot and mouth disease, leptospirosis (17 serovars), parainfluenza-3, and vesicular stomatitis. Blood samples from 20 domestic sheep (Ovis aries) maintained in the same reserve with the guanaco were also collected at the same time for serology tests. No guanaco had positive serologic tests. Sheep were found to have antibody titers to bovine respiratory syncytial virus, Johne's disease, leptospirosis, and parainfluenza-3. There was no apparent difference in external appearance or condition, or statistical difference in blood test values, between the animals that were positive or negative for parasite ova. 相似文献

Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) channels are multifunctional sensory molecules that are abundant in the skin and are involved in the sensory pathways of itch, pain, and inflammation. In this review article, we explore the complex physiology of different TRP channels, their role in modulating itch sensation, and their contributions to the pathophysiology of acute and chronic itch conditions. We also cover small molecule and topical TRP channel agents that are emerging as potential anti-pruritic treatments; some of which have shown great promise, with a few treatments advancing into clinical trials—namely, TRPV1, TRPV3, TRPA1, and TRPM8 targets. Lastly, we touch on possible ethnic differences in TRP channel genetic polymorphisms and how this may affect treatment response to TRP channel targets. Further controlled studies on the safety and efficacy of these emerging treatments is needed before clinical use. 相似文献

The interface behaviour in the facilitated co-transport of Ag(I), Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions through supported liquid membranes (SLMs) made of a flat-sheet polypropylene membrane support containing cryptands (2.2.2 or 2.2.1) as carriers was studied. The liquid-liquid extraction tests showed a maximum distribution coefficient when the carrier concentration was greaterthan 10−4M. In transport experiments the transmembrane flux increased with increasing carrier concentration reaching a limiting value at greater than 10−3M concentration. The calculation ofthe diffusion coefficients in membranes showed ahigherdiffusivityof2.2.2-metal complexes with respect to 2.2.1-metal complexes for silver ions. A sequence of diffusivity D(Ag+)>D(Cu2+)>D(Zn2+) was obtained, but carrier 2.2.1 showed a higher selectivity through copper ions. A sequence of diffusivity D(Cu2+)>D(Zn2+)>D(Ag+) was obtained. The diffusivity was significantly higher when using Celgard 2500 support compared to Celgard 2400 or 2402. Variable metal ion concentrations in the feed phase fluxes almost zero, at less than 10−2 M concentration, were obtained. In the transient state of the transport through the SLM, different molar flow rates at the feed-membrane and membrane-strip interfaces were observed. The selectivity of the interfaces containing 2.2.2 in the separation binary mixtures of ions showed the following separation factors: SFAgZn = 2.50, SFAgCu = 1.64, SFcuZn = 1.42. 相似文献

The work studied a non-catalytic upgrading of fast pyrolysis bio-oil by blending under supercritical conditions using methanol, ethanol and isopropanol as solvent and hydrogen donor. Characterisation of the bio-oil and the upgraded bio-oils was carried out including moisture content, elemental content, pH, heating value, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS), Fourier transform infrared radiation, 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis to evaluate the effects of blending and supercritical reactions. The GCMS analysis indicated that the supercritical methanol reaction removed the acids in the bio-oil consequently the pH increased from 2.39 in the crude bio-oil to 4.04 after the supercritical methanol reaction. The ester contents increased by 87.49% after the supercritical methanol reaction indicating ester formation could be the major deacidification mechanism for reducing the acidity of the bio-oil and improving its pH value. Simply blending crude bio-oil with isopropanol was effective in increasing the C and H content, reducing the O content and increasing the heating value to 27.55 from 17.51 MJ·kg‒1 in the crude bio-oil. After the supercritical isopropanol reaction, the heating value of the liquid product slightly further increased to 28.85 MJ·kg‒1. 相似文献

This article is concerned with the static and dynamic mechanical properties of high‐density polyethylene (HDPE) reinforced with sawdust (SD) at a strain rate of up to 103 s?1. In this study, the static and dynamic properties of HDPE/SD composites with different filler loadings of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 wt% SD were deliberated at different levels of strain rates (0.001, 0.01, 0.1, 650, 900, and 1100 s?1) using a conventional universal testing machine and the split Hopkinson pressure bar apparatus. The results showed that the stress–strain curves, yield behavior, stiffness, and strength properties of the HDPE/SD composites were strongly affected by both the strain rate and the filler loadings. Furthermore, the rate sensitivityof the HDPE/SD composites showed a great dependency on the applied strain rate, increasing as the strain rate increased. However, the thermal activation values showed a contrary trend. Meanwhile, for the postdamage analysis, the results showed that the applied strain rates influenced the deformation behavior of the tested HDPE/SD composites. Moreover, for the fractographic analysis at dynamic loading, the composites showed that all the specimens underwent a severe catastrophic deformation. J. VINYL ADDIT. A variety of metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) with varying linkers, topologies, pore sizes, and metal atoms were screened for xenon/krypton separation using grand canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulations. The results indicate that small pores with strong adsorption sites are desired to preferentially adsorb xenon over krypton in multicomponent adsorption. However, if the pore size is too small, it can significantly limit overall gas uptake, which is undesirable. Based on our simulations, MOF‐505 was identified as a promising material due to its increased xenon selectivity over a wider pressure range compared with other MOFs investigated. © 2010 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2011 相似文献

Cellular polypropylene‐calcium carbonate based piezoelectric films were obtained using biaxial stretching and gas‐mediated inflation followed by a corona discharge treatment using home‐made devices. The obtained results revealed a cellular structure that develops at the interface between the solid particles and the polymer matrix and the final piezoelectric coefficient was found to depend both on the gas pressure profile and on time. The inflation step gives better results when the gas pressure is increased in stepwise manner allowing the gas to adequately intrude the cavities and maintain the required pressure. A novel, polymer‐based foliated graphite/nickel nanocomposites with high thermal conductivity, mechanical properties, and low dielectric constant was developed. The network structure of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) reinforced foliate graphite and nickel nanoparticles (GN) were tested in terms of X‐ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive x‐ray analysis (EDX), and thermal‐gravimetric analyses (TGA). Thermogravimetric analysis revealed a large improvement in the thermal stability of PVC/GN nanocomposites. Thermal conductivity and diffusivity of the composites increased with increasing GN content and temperature. The obtained experimental thermal conductivity result are compared with the existing theoretical models. The measured values of thermal conductivity were in excellent agreement with those calculated from the Agari model. In addition, specific heat, coefficient of thermal expansion (TEC), micro porosity, and crosslinking density (CLD) of composites were investigated. The mechanical properties such as tensile strength, tensile modulus, hardness, and elongation at break of the nanocomposites were improved with inclusion GN which is proportional to GN content. A previously described porous organic polymer (NU-POP-1) was evaluated against four representative chemical threats: ammonia, cyanogen chloride, sulfur dioxide, and octane. Ammonia, cyanogen chloride, and sulfur dioxide are examples of toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) spanning the range from highly basic to strong-acid forming substances, while octane is used to assess physical adsorption capacity. Experiments were carried out using a microbreakthrough test apparatus, which measures the adsorption capacity at saturation and gives an indication of the strength of adsorption. The NU-POP-1 material exhibited substantial removal capabilities against the majority of the toxic chemicals, with capacities as high as or better than an activated, impregnated carbon. The ability to remove the highly volatile toxic chemicals ammonia and cyanogen chloride was intriguing, as these chemicals typically require reactive moieities for removal. The present work presents a benchmark for toxic chemical removal, and future work will focus on incorporating functional groups targeting the toxic chemicals of interest. 相似文献
