Precise lattice parameter measurements on dislocation-free gallium arsenide were described in Part I (preceding paper).2 Detailed chemical and electrical analyses of the same samples are described here. The predictions of simple chemical models are developed in the light of the analytical results. "On the job" motor vehicle deaths number more than 4,000 annually in the U.S. and comprise nearly one-third of all work-related deaths. Yet the Department of Labor has set no standards relating to on-the-road safety of the millions of workers whose jobs entail large amounts of driving, and Department of Transportation standards affecting occupational safety cover only drivers in interstate commerce. Drivers of some commercial vehicles, such as heavy trucks, are at special risk of injury because trucks have usually been exempted for many years from federal motor vehicle safety standards--such as standards for brakes and seatbelts--designed to prevent crashes or protect occupants in crashes. Observations based on a series of 150 fatal crashes involving tractor trailers illustrate the need for better protection of this large population of high-risk workers. Clarification of responsibility within the various federal agencies and application of available knowledge and technology are essential.  相似文献

108 tendons of the m. extensor hallucis longus were examined with a tensile testing machine within 36 h after death. The specimen were kept at a resting length of 20 mm. After the "steady state" was reached by cyclic loading, the tendons were stretched up to a maximum load of 18 kp, then deloaded to a certain level and after that the elongation was kept constant. At high loading level the tension of the tendon decreases with time (relaxation). At medium and low loading level the tension increases slightly (mechanical recovery). Between that two regions there is a certain load, where the tension will not change with time (isorheological point). The position of the isorheological point depends on the velocity of the elongation. At low velocity (2 mm/min) the isorheological point is situated at 70%, at high velocity (12 mm/min) at 60% of the maximum load. One will find the maximum relaxation, when no deloading occurs. The mechanical recovery, however, has its maximum at 5--25% of the maximum load. But when the tendon is totally deloaded, there seems to occur no recovery. The maximum relaxation is 5 to 6 times larger than the maximum recovery. Supposingly the relaxation- and recovery-processses will happen at the same time but with different intensity depending on the loading level. At least the relaxation-process consists of different relaxation components with different relaxation times. This will explain the phenomenon of a "secondary relaxation": After a long time of registration the recovery will turn into a slight relaxation.  相似文献

A sensing technique using a voltage-mode architecture, noise-shaping modulator, and digital filter (a counter) is presented for use with cross-point MRAM arrays and magnetic tunnel junction memory cells. The presented technique eliminates the need for precision components, the use of calibrations, and reduces the effects of power supply noise. To obviate the effects of cell-to-cell variations in the array, a digital self-referencing scheme using the counter is presented. Measured experimental results in a 180-nm CMOS process indicate an RMS sensing noise of 20 /spl mu/V for a 5-/spl mu/s sense time. Further increases in sense time are shown to increase the signal-to-noise ratio. The current used by the sense amplifier and counter was measured as 10 /spl mu/A when running at 100 MHz or 10 mA when 1000 sense amplifiers are used with a memory subarray having 1000 bitlines.  相似文献

Most visual features are parametric in nature, including, edges, lines, corners, and junctions. We propose an algorithm to automatically construct detectors for arbitrary parametric features. To maximize robustness we use realistic multi-parameter feature models and incorporate optical and sensing effects. Each feature is represented as a densely sampled parametric manifold in a low dimensional subspace of a Hilbert space. During detection, the vector of intensity values in a window about each pixel in the image is projected into the subspace. If the projection lies sufficiently close to the feature manifold, the feature is detected and the location of the closest manifold point yields the feature parameters. The concepts of parameter reduction by normalization, dimension reduction, pattern rejection, and heuristic search are all employed to achieve the required efficiency. Detectors have been constructed for five features, namely, step edge (five parameters), roof edge (five parameters), line (six parameters), corner (five parameters), and circular disc (six parameters). The results of detailed experiments are presented which demonstrate the robustness of feature detection and the accuracy of parameter estimation.  相似文献

Nonlinear Mohr Envelopes Based on Triaxial Data   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
A substantial amount of experimental evidence suggests that Mohr envelopes of many soils are not linear, particularly in the range of small normal stresses. This departure from linearity is significant for slope stability calculations since for a wide range of practical stability problems, critical slip surfaces are shallow and normal stresses acting on such surfaces are small. The present work presents a procedure for estimating parameters of the Mohr form of Hoek and Brown empirical failure criterion, based on triaxial data. This nonlinear Mohr envelope provides significantly better representation of experimental information than the Mohr–Coulomb criterion in cases when the data set includes tests at small enough normal stress. Application of the estimation procedure to published data sets shows that effective cohesive strength of most soils is close to zero, and Mohr envelopes are continuous at the tensile strength limit.  相似文献
