Cd bioaccumulation by Rhodospirillum rubrum, a Gram-negative freshwater bacterium, was studied in a synthetic medium. The free ion (Cd2+) was the best predictor of the Cd internalization fluxes. Representation of the short-term uptake fluxes as a function of [Cd2+] in the medium demonstrated a linear relationship, as would be expected for a rate-limiting, first-order internalization with a single transporter. Nonetheless, several different accumulation profiles were observed, depending on the Cd concentration. Cd uptake was regulated differently for concentrations above and below 10(-6) M (or was regulated only above [Cd2+] = 10(-6) M). Short-and long-term studies revealed that regulation was rapidly initiated for the highest Cd concentrations examined, effectively decreasing both adsorbed and internalized Cd. Anodic stripping voltammetry demonstrated that a Cd complexing ligand was produced within minutes upon exposure to 5 x 10(-6) M Cd2+ and that an extracellular sequestration of Cd was one mechanism regulating Cd uptake. Competition studies with other cations revealed a competitive inhibition of Cd uptake by Zn and an uptake enhancement in the presence of Mn and Cu.  相似文献

Modified atmosphere packaging with carbon dioxide is effective for prolonging shelf-life of fresh meat. Addition of carbon monoxide to the system provides the advantage of enhancing meat colour. The study objective was to determine the effect of CO2-MAP + 0.4% CO, vs. 100% CO2-MAP, on the bacteriology and colour of retail-ready fresh pork stored for 8 weeks in a master-package system. Total plate counts were not affected and listeria was present on meat from both treatments. Colour was enhanced with the inclusion of CO, while no effect on lipid oxidation was observed. Use of CO in MAP provides sufficient storage life and product colour quality to permit shipment of fresh pork to distant markets. However, given the stable fresh colour of CO-treated meat and the lack of inhibition of pathogen growth by CO, there is concern that CO-MAP under certain conditions may pose a food safety risk.  相似文献

Connected operators are filtering tools that act by merging elementary regions called flat zones. Connecting operators cannot create new contours nor modify their position. Therefore, they have very good contour-preservation properties and are capable of both low-level filtering and higher-level object recognition. This article gives an overview on connected operators and their application to image and video filtering. There are two popular techniques used to create connected operators. The first one relies on a reconstruction process. The operator involves first a simplification step based on a classical filter and then a reconstruction process. In fact, the reconstruction can be seen as a way to create a connected version of an arbitrary operator. The simplification effect is defined and limited by the first step. The examples we have shown include simplification in terms of size or contrast. The second strategy to define connected operators relies on a hierarchical region-based representation of the input image, i.e., a tree, computed in an initial step. Then, the simplification is obtained by pruning the tree, and, third, the output image is constructed from the pruned tree. This article presents the most important trees that have been used to create connected operators and also discusses important families of simplification or pruning criteria.  相似文献

A new experimental technique for measuring particle cycle times, times of occurrence of particles at different levels, and particle velocities in the spout of a spouted bed is described. A magnetized marker particle and search coil or coils are employed together with a microprocessor system for ease of data collection and processing. The magnetic particles have the same diameter, density and similar surface texture to bed particles to ensure proper representation. Data is presented on distributions of cycle time and particle velocity and implied particle mass circulation rates at different levels in a spouted bed. Comparisons are made with photographic and laser–doppler anemometry techniques.  相似文献

A γ-ray technique is described for measuring the distribution of fractional voidage in the fountain of an air spouted bed. What appear to be the first experimental data on fountain voidage are presented. For the relatively shallow, 160 mm diameter, conical spouted bed studied, fountain fractional voidage is quite high, 0.88 and upwards. Generally voidage increases with height up the fountain, apart from a plateau or slight fall part way up. This trend differs from that proposed by Grace and Mathur in a theoretical model for a deeper cylindrical spouted bed. Fountain voidage is shown to depend on air flow rate and on particle size distribution.  相似文献

The recent literature dealing with the redox mechanism of the lead-acid cell positive electrode is reviewed. The basis electrochemistry of lead dioxide in its various polymorphic modifications and states of subdivision is considered in relation to the important aspects of electrode technology of which the major industrial application of the material is the conventional lead-acid cell. The proposed mechanism of the reduction (discharge) of lead dioxide in various acidic solutions are considered in relation to the present state of electrode kinetic theory. The reverse reaction by which lead dioxide is formed and the parasitic intrusion of the self discharge are dealt with as a precursor to the total cyclic process. It is concluded that in a number of respects the mechanisms proposed do not adequately represent the totality of the experimental observations. Such shortcomings are emphasized and extensions to present research are proposed.  相似文献

Commercial dual-phase (DP) steel in sheet form and comprised of ferrite, martensite, and bainite was subjected to uniaxial tension up to fracture. The damage characteristics were studied through extensive quantitative metallography and scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations of polished sections and fracture surfaces of failed specimens. The observed void nucleation mechanisms include nucleation at the martensite/ferrite interface or triple junction (most predominant), nucleation due to the cracking of martensite particles, and nucleation at the inclusions. The void characteristics in terms of area fraction, void density, void size ranges, and void orientations were analyzed as a function of thickness strain from various regions of the different uniaxial tensile test specimens taken to fracture. The damage analysis suggests that the void nucleation occurs during the entire deformation process with an almost constant rate and this rate reduces before fracture. A nucleation strain of 0.15 has been estimated for this material.  相似文献

We have built a detailed kinetic model of translation initiation in yeast and have used a novel approach to determine the flux controlling steps based on limited experimental data. An efficient parameter estimation method was adapted in order to fit the most uncertain parameters (rate constants) to in vivo measurements in yeast. However, it was found that there were many other sets of plausible parameter values that also gave a good fit of the model to the data. We therefore used random sampling of this uncertain parameter space to generate a large number of diverse fitted parameter sets. A compact characterization of these parameter sets was provided by considering flux control. In particular, we suggest that the rate of translation initiation is most strongly influenced by one of two reactions: either the guanine nucleotide exchange reaction involving initiation factors eIF2 and eIF2B or the assembly of the multifactor complex from its constituent protein/tRNA containing complexes. It is hoped that the approach presented in this paper will add to our understanding of translation initiation pathway and can be used to identify key system-level properties of other biochemical processes.  相似文献

Background  

Strawberry flavonoids are potent antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents that have been shown to reduce cardiovascular disease risk factors in prospective cohort studies. Effects of strawberry supplementation on metabolic risk factors have not been studied in obese populations. We tested the hypothesis that freeze-dried strawberry powder (FSP) will lower fasting lipids and biomarkers of oxidative stress and inflammation at four weeks compared to baseline. We also tested the tolerability and safety of FSP in subjects with metabolic syndrome. FSP is a concentrated source of polyphenolic flavonoids, fiber and phytosterols.  相似文献
