High voltage floating gate array transistors

A new high voltage field-effect transistor is described. It features an array of uncontacted gate elements between the main gate and the drain which float so as to inhibit avalanche breakdown. Good agreement is obtained between model predictions and the performance of experimental devices fabricated in Si-TaSi/sub 2/ semiconductor-metal eutectic material. Transistors are demonstrated which hold off up to 1000 V, compared with the avalanche breakdown potential of 300 V or less expected for conventional devices made with similarly doped silicon.<>     

The full cost of high-speed rail: an engineering approach

This paper examines the full costs, defined as the sum of private and social costs, of a high-speed rail system proposed for a corridor connecting Los Angeles and San Francisco in California. The full costs include infrastructure, fleet capital and operating expenses, the time users spend on the system, and the social costs of externalities, such as noise, pollution, and accidents. Comparing these full costs to those of other competing modes contributes to the evaluation of the feasibility of high-speed rail in the corridor. The paper concludes that high-speed rail is significantly more costly than expanding existing air service, and marginally more expensive than auto travel. This suggests that high-speed rail is better positioned to serve shorter distance markets where it competes with auto travel than longer distance markets where it substitutes for air. Therelations between cluster indexes of risk and promotion and the problem behaviors of 6- and 7- year old children from economically disadvantaged families.

This study examined the relations between alternative explanations of poverty cofactors and promotion processes and teacher reports of the problem behaviors of 6- and 7-yr old children from economically disadvantaged families (N?=?159). The results showed that single index representations of risk and promotion variables predicted child aggressive behaviors but not child anxious/depressed behaviors. An addictive model of individual risk indicators performed similarly. Similar indexes representing clusters of parent adjustment variables and family instability variables, however, differentially predicted aggressive and anxious/depressed behaviors, respectively. The results suggest the importance of promotion processes and representing environmental adversity at varying levels of specificity for children from economically disadvantaged families. Effect of bushenhuoxue tablet on serum lipid peroxide, blood lipid and blood sugar in type II diabetics

Sixty-eight patients suffering from diabetes mellitus (DM) type II with Kidney Deficiency and blood stasis were enrolled and divided randomly into treatment group (34 cases) and placebo group (34 healthy subjects). The amount of serum lipid peroxide (LPO), blood lipid and blood sugar was determined. The results showed that the serum LPO in treatment group was higher than that in placebo group. The serum LPO increased significantly in DM patients with vascular disease or with uncontrolled blood sugar. The serum LPO was positively correlated with triglyceride (TG). After using Bushenhuoxue Tablet (BSHX) serum LPO lowered, blood sugar decreased and high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C)increased in treatment group, but in placebo group these three parameters were not changed significantly. These results indicated that LPO reaction in type II DM patients increased. The higher the blood sugar and TG or complicated with vascular disease, the LPO reaction enhanced markedly. BSHX tablets have the function of reducing the serum LPO and blood sugar, clearing cholesterol. Therefore, this tablet will have a good prospect in the prevention and treatment for DM patients complicated with vascular disease.
