We have investigated heat conduction of single crystal Ba1–xKxBiO3 in the temperature range of 2–300 K and in a magnetic field of up to 6 Tesla. Temperature dependence of thermal conductivity(T) reveals the participation of both electrons and phonons with their relative contributions that depend critically on the potassium doping concentration. Crystals underdoped with potassium (samples with higherT c) exhibit a strong suppression of and a glass-like temperature dependence. In contrast, those with a higher potassium content (lowerT c) show an increase as temperature decreases with a peak near 23 K. Field dependence of(H) is also very sensitive to the level of potassium doping. Crystals exhibiting a large phonon contribution show an initial drop in(H) at low fields followed by a minimum and then a slow rise to saturation as the field increases. The initial drop is due to the additional phonon scattering by magnetic vortices as the sample enters a mixed state. The high field behavior of(H), arising from a continuous break-up of Cooper pairs, exhibits scaling which suggests the presence of an unconventional superconducting gap structure in this material.  相似文献

Almost all variables in biology are nonstationarily stochastic. For these variables, the conventional tools leave us a feeling that some valuable information is thrown away and that a complex phenomenon is presented imprecisely. Here, we apply recent advances initially made in the study of ocean waves to study the blood pressure waves in the lung. We note first that, in a long wave train, the handling of the local mean is of predominant importance. It is shown that a signal can be described by a sum of a series of intrinsic mode functions, each of which has zero local mean at all times. The process of deriving this series is called the "empirical mode decomposition method." Conventionally, Fourier analysis represents the data by sine and cosine functions, but no instantaneous frequency can be defined. In the new way, the data are represented by intrinsic mode functions, to which Hilbert transform can be used. Titchmarsh [Titchmarsh, E. C. (1948) Introduction to the Theory of Fourier Integrals (Oxford Univ. Press, Oxford)] has shown that a signal and i times its Hilbert transform together define a complex variable. From that complex variable, the instantaneous frequency, instantaneous amplitude, Hilbert spectrum, and marginal Hilbert spectrum have been defined. In addition, the Gumbel extreme-value statistics are applied. We present all of these features of the blood pressure records here for the reader to see how they look. In the future, we have to learn how these features change with disease or interventions.  相似文献

A commercial patient dose verification system utilizing non-invasive metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) dosimeters originally designed for radiotherapy applications has been evaluated for use at diagnostic energy levels. The system features multiple dosimeters that may be used to monitor entrance or exit skin dose and intracavity doses in phantoms in real time. We have characterized both the standard MOSFET dosimeter designed for radiotherapy dose verification and a newly developed "high sensitivity" MOSFET dosimeter designed for lower dose measurements. The sensitivity, linearity, angular response, post-exposure response, and physical characteristics were evaluated. The average sensitivity (free in air, including backscatter) of the radiotherapy MOSFET dosimeters ranged from 3.55 x 10(4) mV per C kg(-1) (9.2 mV R(-1)) to 4.87 x 10(4) mV per C kg(-1) (12.6 mV R(-1)) depending on the energy of the x-ray field. The sensitivity of the "high sensitivity" MOSFET dosimeters ranged from 1.15 x 10(5) mV per C kg(-1) (29.7 mV R(-1)) to 1.38 x 10(5) mV per C kg(-1) (35.7 mV R(-1)) depending on the energy of the x-ray field. The high sensitivity dosimeters demonstrated excellent linearity at high energies (90 and 120 kVp) and acceptable linearity at lower energies (60 kVp). The angular response was significant for free-in-air exposures, as illustrated by the sensitivity differences between the two sides of the dosimeter, but was excellent for measurements within a tissue equivalent cylinder. The post-exposure drift response is a complicated but reproducible function of time. Real-time monitoring requires little if any corrections for the post-exposure drift response. The MOSFET dosimeter system brings some unique capabilities to diagnostic radiology dosimetry including small size, real-time capabilities, nondestructive measurement, good linearity, and a predictable angular response.  相似文献

Fine-needle aspiration is now accepted as the initial procedure for diagnosing a thyroid nodule. General pathologists inevitably will be asked to interpret aspirates as this diagnostic tool continues to be more widely used. This procedure is relatively inexpensive, is safe, and nearly always provides information useful in deciding how to manage the patient. We emphasize the importance of obtaining a representative sample of good quality. This often occurs when the "interventional pathologist" performs the aspirations, but there is no reason that another practitioner cannot become expert. Both histologic and cytologic features are reviewed from normal thyroid tissue, autoimmune thyroiditis, adenomatoid nodules, and follicular neoplasms. We encourage the use of clear, simple, and uniform terminology to facilitate communication.  相似文献

Most empirical investigations of the business cycles in the United States have excluded the dimension of asymmetric conditional volatility. This paper analyses the volatility dynamics of the US business cycle by comparing the performance of various multivariate generalised autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) models. In particular, we propose two bivariate GARCH models to examine the evidence of volatility asymmetry and time-varying correlations concurrently, and then apply the proposed models to five sectors of Industrial Production of the United States. Our findings provide strong evidence of asymmetric conditional volatility in all sectors, and some support of time-varying correlations in various sectoral pairs. This has important policy implications for government to consider the effective countercyclical measures during recessions.  相似文献

A thin active layer, a fully silicided source/drain (S/D), a modified Schottky-barrier, a high dielectric constant (high-/spl kappa/) gate dielectric, and a metal gate are integrated to realize high-performance thin-film transistors (TFTs). Devices with 0.1-/spl mu/m gate length were fabricated successfully. Low threshold voltage, low subthreshold swing, high transconductance, low S/D resistance, high on/off current ratio, and negligible threshold voltage rolloff are demonstrated. It is thus suggested for the first time that the short-channel modified Schottky-barrier TFT is a solution to carrier out three-dimension integrated circuits and system-on-panel.  相似文献

Geometry of single axis motions using conic fitting   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Previous algorithms for recovering 3D geometry from an uncalibrated image sequence of a single axis motion of unknown rotation angles are mainly based on the computation of two-view fundamental matrices and three-view trifocal tensors. We propose three new methods that are based on fitting a conic locus to corresponding image points over multiple views. The main advantage is that determining only five parameters of a conic from one corresponding point over at least five views is simpler and more robust than determining a fundamental matrix from two views or a trifocal tensor from three views. It is shown that the geometry of single axis motion can be recovered either by computing one conic locus and one fundamental matrix or by computing at least two conic loci. A maximum likelihood solution based on this parametrization of the single axis motion is also described for optimal estimation using three or more loci. The experiments on real image sequences demonstrate the simplicity, accuracy, and robustness of the new methods.  相似文献

With the advent of the World Wide Web, providing just-in-time personalized product recommendations to customers now becomes possible. Collaborative recommender systems utilize correlation between customer preference ratings to identify "like-minded" customers and predict their product preference. One factor determining the success of the recommender systems is the prediction accuracy, which in many cases is limited by lacking adequate ratings (the sparsity problem). Recently, the use of latent class model (LCM) has been proposed to alleviate this problem. In this paper, we first study how the LCM can be extended to handle customers and products outside the training set. In addition, we propose the use of a pair of LCMs (called dual latent class model-DLCM), instead of a single LCM, to model customers' likes and dislikes separately for enhancing the prediction accuracy. Experimental results based on the EachMovie dataset show that DLCM outperforms both LCM and the conventional correlation-based method when the available ratings are sparse.  相似文献

We previously found that the p97 cofactor, p47, significantly decreased the potency of some ATP‐competitive p97 inhibitors such as ML240 [2‐(2‐amino‐1H‐benzo[d]imidazol‐1‐yl)‐N‐benzyl‐8‐methoxyquinazolin‐4‐amine] and ML241 [2‐(2H‐benzo[b][1,4]oxazin‐4(3H)‐yl)‐N‐benzyl‐5,6,7,8 tetrahydroquinazolin‐4‐amine]. In this study, we aimed to evaluate inhibitor potencies against two additional p97 cofactor complexes, p97–p37 and p97–Npl4–Ufd1. We focused on these two cofactor complexes, because the protein sequence of p37 is 50 % identical to that of p47, and the Npl4–Ufd1 heterodimer (NU) is the most‐studied p97 cofactor complex. We screened 200 p97 inhibitor analogues for their ability to inhibit the ATPase activity of p97 alone and of p97–p37 and p97–NU complexes. In contrast to the effect of p47, p37 and NU did not significantly change the potencies of most of the compounds. These results highlight differences among p97 cofactors in influencing p97 conformation and effects of inhibitors on p97 complexes, as compared to p97 alone. Continued efforts are needed to advance the development of complex‐specific p97 inhibitors.  相似文献
