Summary Dynamic light scattering was used to investigate the dynamics of sodium poly(styrene sulfonate) and fully neutralized poly(acrylic acid) gels as a function of the degree of swelling and weight ratio of cross-linking agent. It was shown that the collective diffusion coefficient increases with increasing degree of swelling and that the diffusion coefficient shows stronger concentration dependence than predicted by scaling arguments. For gel samples measured at the swelling equilibrium, the diffusion coefficient increases with increasing gel concentration for both gel systems.  相似文献

The ability of bone char to adsorb three metal ions, namely, cadmium, copper and zinc, from effluents in fixed beds has been studied. Two binary metal ion sorption systems, Cd+Cu and Cu+Zn, have been investigated. The variables studied include metal ion solution flowrate, initial metal ion concentration, and bone char particle size bed height. The experimental breakthrough curves for each binary system were measured at five bed heights.A multicomponent film-surface diffusion model has been developed to predict the breakthrough curves by incorporating the IAS for both the Langmuir and the Sips equations, since they both correlate the single component equilibrium isotherm data well. A novel development is the modification of the solution methodology, previously restricted to a constant diffusivity, to incorporate a variable diffusivity correlated with adsorbent coverage by the constant self-diffusivity. The self-diffusivities for the metal ions have been evaluated.  相似文献

Composite coatings Ni/Al2O3 were electrochemically deposited from a Watts bath. Al2O3 powder with particle diameter below 1 μm was codeposited with the metal. The obtained Ni/Al2O3 coatings contained 5-6% by weight of corundum. The structure of the coatings was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It has been found that the codeposition of Al2O3 particles with nickel disturbs the nickel coating's regular surface structure, increasing its microcrystallinity and surface roughness. DC and AC electrochemical tests were carried out on such coatings in a 0.5 M solution of Na2SO4 in order to evaluate their corrosion resistance. The potentiodynamic tests showed that the corrosion resistance of composite coating Ni/Al2O3 is better than that of the standard nickel coating. After 14 days of exposure the nickel coating corrodes three times faster than the Ni/Al2O3 coating. The electrochemical behaviour of the coatings in the corrosive solution was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). An equivalent circuit diagram consisting of two RC electric circuits: one for electrode, nickel corrosion processes and the other for processes causing coating surface blockage, were adopted for the analysis of the impedance spectra. The changes in the charge transfer resistance determined from the impedance measurements are comparable with the changes in corrosion resistance determined from potentiodynamic measurements.  相似文献

This study was performed to develop a Real-Time Risk Monitoring System which helps to do fault detection using the information from plant information systems in a chemical process. In this study, to do fault detection, principal component analysis (PCA) methods of multivariate statistical analysis were used. The fundamental notions are a set of variable combinations, that is, detection of principal components which indicate the tendency of variables and operating data. Besides classical statistic process control, PCA can reduce the dimension of variables with monitoring process. Therefore, they are known as suitable methods to treat enormous data composed of many dimensions. The developed Real-Time Risk Monitoring System can analyze and manage the plant information on-line, diagnose causes of abnormality and so prevent major accidents. It’s useful for operators to treat numerous process faults efficiently.  相似文献

(Na1?xKx)NbO3 (NKN) platelets synthesized at 600°C for 12 h have an Amm2 orthorhombic structure. However, the structure of NKN platelets synthesized at 500°C is a mixture of R3m rhombohedral and Amm2 orthorhombic structures. The formation of a rhombohedral structure is attributed to the presence of OH? and H2O defects in the NKN platelets. The piezoelectric strain constant (d33) of NKN platelets synthesized at 600°C for 12 h is 100 pmV?1, whereas that of NKN platelets synthesized at 500°C is lesser (50 pmV?1) due to the presence of these defects. Piezoelectric nanogenerators (PNGs) are fabricated using composites consisting of NKN platelets and polydimethylsiloxane. A large output voltage of 25 V and output current of 2.7 μA were obtained for the PNG with NKN platelets synthesized at 600°C for 6 h. This PNG shows a high output electrical energy of 3.0 μW at an external load of 5.1 MΩ.  相似文献

Constrained binding peptides (peptide aptamers) may serve as tools to explore protein conformations and disrupt protein-protein interactions. The quality of the protein scaffold, by which the binding peptide is constrained and presented, is of crucial importance. SQT (Stefin A Quadruple Mutant-Tracy) is our most recent development in the Stefin A-derived scaffold series. Stefin A naturally uses three surfaces to interact with its targets. SQT tolerates peptide insertions at all three positions. Peptide aptamers in the SQT scaffold can be expressed in bacterial, yeast and human cells, and displayed as a fusion to truncated pIII on phage. Peptides that bind to CDK2 can show improved binding in protein microarrays when presented by the SQT scaffold. Yeast two-hybrid libraries have been screened for binders to the POZ domain of BCL-6 and to a peptide derived from PBP2', specific to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Presentation of the Noxa BH3 helix by SQT allows specific interaction with Mcl-1 in human cells. Together, our results show that Stefin A-derived scaffolds, including SQT, can be used for a variety of applications in cellular and molecular biology. We will henceforth refer to Stefin A-derived engineered proteins as Scannins.  相似文献

Characterization of the fatty acid and triacylglycerol composition of terebinth fruit oil and the synthesis of structured lipids (SL) were performed in this study. Interesterification reaction of terebinth fruits oil (Pistacia terebinthus L.) with caprylic acid (CA) and stearic acid (SA) to produce a SL was performed in n-hexane using immobilized sn-1,3 specific lipase from Mucor miehei. The effect of reaction conditions and relationship among them were analyzed by response surface methodology (RSM) with a four-factors five-level central composite rotatable experimental design. The four major factors chosen were enzyme load (10–30 wt% based on substrates), reaction time (7–18 h), reaction temperature (40–60 °C) and substrate mole ratio (terebinth oil:SA:CA 1:1:1–1:1:3). The best fitting quadratic model was determined by regression and backward elimination. Based on the fitted model, the optimal reaction conditions for the incorporation of CA and SA were found to be temperature 50 °C; time 18 h; enzyme load 30 wt%; substrate ratio 1:1:3. Under these optimum conditions, the incorporation of SA and CA could be obtained as 19 and 14%, respectively.  相似文献

This review describes monovalent synthetic receptor–ligand (or host–guest) pairs with extremely high binding affinity, comparable to that of the biotin–avidin pair, and their applications. Cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]), a member of the host family cucurbit[n]uril (CB[n], n=5–8, 10), forms ultrastable host–guest complexes with ferrocene-, adamantane- or bicyclo[2.2.2]octane-based molecules having ammonium groups properly positioned to interact with the carbonyl oxygens at the portals of CB[7]. The extremely high affinity is achieved by a large enthalpic gain arising from the near perfect size/shape complementarity between the rigid CB cavity and the rigid core of the guest molecules, with the critical assistance of the positive entropy change due to the extensive dehydration of the host and guest. The high stability of the complexes allowed us and others to explore several biological applications such as immobilization of biomolecules on a solid surface, protein isolation, triggering intracellular events, and regulating enzymatic activities. These complexes with their exceptional affinity, chemical robustness, simple preparation, biocompatibility, and easy handling may replace the biotin–(strept)avidin system in diverse areas of research, including affinity chromatography, high throughput biochemical assays, imaging, and sensor technologies.  相似文献

Semi‐autogenous grinding (SAG) of ore plays a critical role in a mineral processing plant. In SAG operations, abnormal conditions, such as overload or insufficient ore holdup, often result in inefficient production and unstable operation. It is, therefore, essential to monitor the process using effective technology so that abnormal or faulty conditions can be detected and addressed in a timely manner. In this study, investigation is focused on applying multivariate analysis in the monitoring and diagnosing of an industrial SAG operation. The results show that principal component analysis provides an effective methodology for on‐line monitoring and diagnosis. The detection and removal of faulty conditions will help to provide stable and cost‐efficient operation.  相似文献

Camelina sativa oil (CO) is characterized by a high content (up to 40 wt %) of essential α‐linolenic acid and characteristic odour and flavour. Deodorization of highly unsaturated oils requires great attention as the refining process involves thermal treatment which affects oil integrity. In the present study RSM and principal component analysis (PCA) were used to optimize bench‐scale deodorization of CO. Mathematical models were generated through multiple regressions with backward elimination, describing the effects of process parameters (temperature, steam flow, time) on oil quality indicators [peroxide value (PV), p‐anisidine value (p‐AV), γ‐tocopherol (γ‐T) and oxidative stability (OS)]. Additionally, sensory evaluation was performed. RSM analysis showed a significant effect of deodorization temperature and to a lesser extent, deodorization steam flow and time on removal of oxidative compounds, flavour and odour. PCA of chemical and sensory results showed that deodorization temperature affected the sensory properties in the samples. The best conditions for removing undesirable flavour and odour were achieved by using a deodorization temperature of 195–210°C.  相似文献
