Liquid–liquid (L–L) phase separation and its effects on crystallization in polypropylene (PP)/ethylene–propylene rubber (EPR) blends obtained by melt extrusion were investigated by time‐resolved light scattering (TRLS) and optical microscopy. L–L phase separation via spinodal decomposition (SD) was confirmed by TRLS data. After L–L phase separation at 250°C for various durations, blend samples were subjected to a temperature drop to 130°C for isothermal crystallization, and the effects of L–L phase separation on crystallization were investigated. Memory of the L–L phase separation via SD remained for crystallization. The crystallization rate decreased with increasing L–L phase‐separated time at 250°C. Slow crystallization for the long L–L phase‐separated time could be ascribed to decreasing chain mobility of PP with a decrease in the EPR component in the PP‐rich region. The propylene‐rich EPR exhibited good affinity with PP, leading to a slow growth of a concentration fluctuation during annealing. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were synthesized by catalytic decomposition of acetylene over Fe, Ni and Fe-Ni bimetallic catalysts supported on alumina under various controlled conditions. The growth density and diameter of CNTs were markedly dependent on the activation time of catalysts in H2 atmosphere, reaction time, reaction temperature, flow rate of acetylene, and catalyst composition. Bimetallic catalysts were apt to produce narrower diameter of CNTs than single metal catalysts. For the growth of CNTs at 600 ‡C under 10/100 seem flow of C2H2/H2 mixture, the narrowest diameter about 20 nm was observed at the reaction time of 1 h for 20Fe : 20Ni : 60Al2O3 catalyst, but at that of 1.5 h for 10Fe : 30Ni : 60Al2O3 catalyst. It was considered that the diameter and density of CNTs decreased with the increase of the growth time mainly due to hydrogen etching. The growth of CNTs followed the tip growth mode.  相似文献

The study investigated the optimal display color for comfortable use of smartphones at night under low illuminance, while not distorting the perceived quality of displays. Two phases of psychophysical experiments were conducted to judge perceptibility and acceptability of the displays in various shades of white. The experimental results showed that the scores in acceptability were always higher than those in perceptibility all across the hues, and yellow received the highest scores in acceptability among the six hue categories. This can be interpreted that the observers have the intention of using a display in a yellow shade of white even though it is not perceived as pure white. Through the analysis, a white in yellow shade with the RGB values of 255, 255, and 230 was determined as the optimal display color for nighttime smartphone users regardless of display luminance or contents. The proposed display color supports physiological comfort by reducing the blue light, which involves an adverse effect on the biological system, and provides psychological satisfaction by allowing users to decide the color within the range of the user's acceptable threshold. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Transparent nanophase TiO2 thin films on soda lime glass were prepared from titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) by a sol-gel dip-coating method. The TiO2 films had amorphous phase up to 400°C and anatase phase at 500°C. The amorphous TiO2 films obtained at 300–400°C showed considerable photoactivity for the degradation of formic acid. The photoactivity of the TiO2 films was enhanced with increasing calcination temperature from 300° to 500°C. The crystallinity of the anatase films at 500°C was improved with increasing calcination time up to 2 h and reduced with a further increase in calcination time to 4 h due to the significant formation of sodium titanate phase as a result of sodium diffusion. The four-time-dipping anatase films at 500°C exhibited the greatest photoactivity at the calcination time of 2 h. Sodium diffusion into TiO2 films was retarded by a SiO2 underlayer of 50 nm in thickness.  相似文献

The attachment of anticancer agents to polymers is a promising approach towards reducing the toxic side‐effects and retaining the potent antitumour activity of these agents. A new tetrahydrophthalimido monomer containing 5‐fluorouracil (ETPFU) and its homopolymer and copolymers with acrylic acid (AA) and with vinyl acetate (VAc) have been synthesized and spectroscopically characterized. The ETPFU contents in poly(ETPFU‐co‐AA) and poly(ETPFU‐co‐VAc) obtained by elemental analysis were 21 mol% and 20 mol%, respectively. The average molecular weights of the polymers determined by gel permeation chromatography were as follows: Mn = 8900 g mol?1, Mw = 13 300 g mol?1, Mw/Mn = 1.5 for poly(ETPFU); Mn = 13 500 g mol?1, Mw = 16 600 g mol?1, Mw/Mn = 1.2 for poly(ETPFU‐co‐AA); Mn = 8300 g mol?1, Mw = 11 600 g mol?1, Mw/Mn = 1.4 poly(ETPFU‐co‐VAc). The in vitro cytotoxicity of the compounds against FM3A and U937 cancer cell lines increased in the following order: ETPFU > 5‐FU > poly(ETPFU) > poly(ETPFU‐co‐AA) > poly(ETPFU‐co‐VAc). The in vivo antitumour activities of all the polymers in Balb/C mice bearing the sarcoma 180 tumour cell line were greater than those of 5‐FU and monomer at the highest dose (800 mg kg?1). © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The influences of acetic acid addition to Mg-methoxide on the stability of the precursor and the crystallization behavior of sol–gel-derived MgO nano-powders and thin films were investigated using X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetry. The addition of acetic acid enhanced the stability of the alkoxide against precipitation. Moreover, during postheat treatment of the gel powders treated with acetic acid, a significantly lowered crystallization temperature (250°C) was observed as compared to the untreated counterpart (350°C). The low-temperature crystallization of MgO, induced by the modification of Mg-methoxide with acetic acid, was related to the decomposition of organics at a lower temperature. These results could be explained in terms of the decrease of the O–R bond strength depending on the increase in the alkyl group size. MgO thin films having a high degree of crystallinity were successfully obtained from the Mg-methoxide treated with acetic acid at 300°C. The low-temperature crystallization of sol–gel-derived MgO thin films showed the feasibility for their application as a protective layer in alternative current plasma display panel cells.  相似文献

To improve the quality of water supplied to the City of Seoul in Korea, a pilot-scale evaluation of how the conventional treatment process could be upgraded was conducted. Three candidate processes were evaluated and compared: a conventional process (consisting of coagulation, sedimentation, and rapid sand filtration) plus GAC (Train A); a conventional process plus ozone and GAC (Train B); and a process consisting of coagulation, sedimentation, intermediate ozone, sand filtration, and GAC (Train C). Treatment efficiency of the unit process and overall treatment trains were evaluated using several parameters such as turbidity, dissolved organic carbon (DOC), UV absorbance at 254 nm (UV254), specific ultraviolet absorbance (SUVA), micropollutants (pesticides, benzenes, and phenols), disinfection by-products (trihalomethanes (THMs), haloacetic acids (HAAs) and aldehydes), and total organic halogen (TOX). Results showed that ozone and/or GAC was effective for removing micropollutants and controlling chlorinated by-products such as THMs and HAAs. However, any synergistic effect of ozonation (adsorption and biodegradation) on GAC was observed due to the low concentration of aldehydes in raw and process water.  相似文献

We prepared some blends of polypropylene (PP) and ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) with and without a compatibilizer. As a new compatibilizer, we synthesized polypropylene grafted with itaconic acid (PP‐g‐IA) using Brabender mixing system. We investigated the morphological, thermal, rheological, and mechanical properties of a compatibilized blends (PP/EVOH/PP‐g‐IA) and not compatibilized blends (PP/EVOH). Our experiments showed that carboxylic acid groups in PP‐g‐IA and hydroxyl group in EVOH formed strong in situ hydrogen bond in the compatibilized blends, resulting in better morphological and mechanical properties of the compatibilized blends than those of not compatibilized blends. There is an increasing interest in natural antioxidants present in traditional Chinese herbal medicines. The present study examined the antioxidant activity of heane, acetone, and methanol extracts, as well as baicalein purified from the dry roots of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi (common name: Huangqin), in heated canola oil. Oxygen consumption and decreases in linoleic acid linolenic acid content were monitored in canola oil held at 90–93°C. Among the three extracts, the acetone extract was most effective against oxidation of canola oil, followed by the methanol extract of the dry roots. The antioxidant activity of these three extracts correlated well with their content of baicalein, which provided strong protection to canola oil from oxidation. The antioxidant activity of Huangqin acetone extract was dose-dependent. The acetone extract at 100 ppm or above was even more effective than butylated hydroxytoluene at 200 ppm in protecting canola oil from oxidation. The present results suggest that the acetone extract of these roots should be further explored as a potential source of natural antioxidants for use in the processed foods.  相似文献

Volatile compounds of perilla seed oils roasted at different temperatures (150–190°C) were analyzed by dynamic headspace gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The headspace volatiles in roasted perilla seed oils (RPSO) were composed of thermally produced flavors and compounds originating from the raw perilla seeds. The roasting temperatures significantly affected the production of thermal reaction flavors. Oils from parilla seeds roasted below 170°C had relatively high concentrations of aldehydes, whereas pyrazines and furans were the predominant volatiles above 170°C. In all of the RPSO, the contents of both perilla aldehyde and perilla ketone remained almost constant and might be used to discriminate perilla seed oils from other roasted vegetable seed oils.  相似文献
