Although atypical chest pain has been well described in the Western population, its frequency in Chinese is unknown. Over a period of 42 months, we studied 521 Chinese patients with chest pain and identified 108 patients (20.7%) whose pain was not related to cardiac causes, as determined by exercise ECG or cardiac catheterization. Using 24 h ambulatory pH monitoring and baseline oesophageal manometry, 28.7, 19.4 and 5.6% of these patients were found to have abnormal reflux parameters, abnormal manometric findings or both, respectively. There were significantly more patients complaining of chest pain during the study in the gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) group than in the non-GERD group (16/31 vs 20/77; P < 0.001). The lower oesophageal sphincter pressure was lower in those with abnormal reflex parameters than in those with normal reflux parameters (12.7 +/- 5.4 vs 17.8 +/- 5.8 mmHg; P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in symptoms, such as heartburn (54.8 vs 42.9%), regurgitation (38.7 vs 35.1%) and dysphagia (19.4 vs 24.7%), among the two groups. Non-specific changes were the most frequent baseline motility pattern. In conclusion, atypical chest pain and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease are not uncommon in Chinese and this deserves special emphasis as the continuation of anti-anginal drugs may aggravate their condition.  相似文献

Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging provides useful information in the evaluation of peripheral nerves. Recent advances in MR imaging allow for detailed depiction of the soft tissue structures of the elbow joint. Three major nerves are present about the elbow. Six cadaveric elbows were imaged to depict the normal anatomy of these nerves and to determine the best plane and position of the elbow for optimal visualization of each nerve. Axial images of the elbow in full extension with the forearm in supination allow identification of all major nerves. Axial images with the elbow in full flexion allow accurate assessment of the cubital tunnel and the ulnar nerve. Axial images of the elbow in full extension with the forearm in pronation are helpful for assessment of the median and radial nerves in the forearm.  相似文献

In a previous study we have demonstrated that endogenous neurotrophin 3 (NT3) is required for the survival of most sympathetic neurones in postnatal rats. However, the mechanisms underlying the action of NT3 on sympathetic neurones is not known. Neither is it understood whether NT3 is retrogradely transported from peripheral tissues or acts locally in an autocrine fashion. In the present study, NT3-mRNA was quantified in sympathetic effector tissues and NT3 protein was localized in intact and lesioned sympathetic nerves in rats. NT3-mRNA is expressed and developmentally regulated in many effector tissues including mesenteric arteries, salivary gland, heart and kidney but hardly detectable in the superior cervical ganglia of adult animals. The majority of sympathetic neurones express immunoreactivity for TrkA and TrkC in both neonatal and adult rats. Sympathetic somata are normally immunoreactive for NT3, but the immunoreactivity is abolished by systemic administration of NT3 antibodies or axotomy of postganglionic neurones, suggesting an accumulation of NT3 from extraneuronal sources. Furthermore, the detection of NT3-immunoreactivity in the internal carotid nerve as early as 3 h following a compression and only on the distal side indicates endogenous NT3 is retrogradely transported by sympathetic neurones. These studies provide evidence indicating that NT3, like nerve growth factor, is an effector tissue-derived neurotrophic factor for sympathetic neurones both during development and in the adult animal. Thus, we have provided a clear example that one type of neurone derives, through a retrograde transport mechanism, two neurotrophic factors simultaneously from its peripheral effector tissues.  相似文献

In this study, polysulfone (PSF) hollow fiber membranes with enhanced performance for humic acid removal were prepared from a dope solution containing PSF/DMAc/PVP/TiO2. The main reason for adding titanium oxide during dope solution preparation was to enhance the antifouling properties of membranes prepared. In the spinning process, air gap distance was varied in order to produce different properties of the hollow fiber membranes. Characterizations were conducted to determine membrane properties such as pure water flux, molecular weight cut off (MWCO), humic acid (HA) rejection and resistance to fouling tendency. The results indicated that the pure water flux and MWCO of membranes increased with an increase in air gap distance while HA retention decreased significantly with increasing air gap. Due to this, it is found that the PSF/TiO2 membrane spun at zero air gap was the best amongst the membranes produced and demonstrated > 90% HA rejection. Analytical results from FESEM and AFM also provided supporting evidence to the experimental results obtained. Based on the anti-fouling performance investigation, it was found that membranes with the addition of TiO2 were excellent in mitigating fouling particularly in reducing the fouling resistances due to concentration polarization, cake layer formation and absorption.  相似文献

Dual polymer/zinc-coated concrete steel reinforcing bar (rebar) is a novel material intended to improve corrosion related durability in marine and deicing salt environments. Severe fabrication bending induces coating breaks and separation from the steel substrate, creating a crevice where some zinc corrosion takes place. EIS measurements to characterize that corrosion revealed spontaneous fluctuations that included variations in the size of the high frequency loop and sometimes strong intermediate frequency dispersion. This investigation examined the underlying causes for that behavior. The fluctuations were explained by formation and episodic release of hydrogen gas in the crevice underneath the disbonded coating, as a product of the cathodic reaction in corrosion of the zinc layer. The gas caused partial occlusion of the crevice and the crevice opening at tears in the coating. Gas occlusion increased the effective electrolytic resistance inside the crevice, and contributed to an enhanced transmission line configuration with associated frequency dispersion, especially notable in the intermediate frequency part of the impedance spectrum. A radial transmission line model was adopted as a simplified abstraction of the system. Properties of the radial transmission line impedance behavior are discussed. The model output replicated the key features of the measured impedance spectrum and its fluctuations, and permitted isolating the low frequency response as the most representative to evaluate corrosion conditions inside the crevice in subsequent research.  相似文献

The present paper describes an Euler–Lagrange model utilizing a drag closure derived from direct numerical simulations (front-tracking model) for (i) single isolated bubbles and (ii) bubbles rising in bubble swarms, expressed as a function of the local gas fraction. The model is applied to the prediction of an air/water system in a bubble column and for which experimental data is available. The effect of variation in size of the mapping window for the interphase coupling between the Eulerian and Lagrangian framework is investigated for both closure relations. It is found that the drag closure as a function of the local gas fraction is an improvement over the use of the drag closure for isolated single bubbles for the prediction of bubbly flow.  相似文献

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) grown on substrate-bound catalysts by CVD are influenced by the catalyst, which changes over the course of the process. The evolution of the CNT growth is revealed by breaking the process into recycling increments and using the phenomenon of ‘direct spinnability’ as a target characteristic.Using acetylene alone, it was found that the first four cycles gave 100% regrowth in height and mass yield of CNTs, with both properties falling to around 20% on the 5th cycle. A decrease in nanotube diameter was observed whilst the areal density increased. With the addition of hydrogen a 100% regrowth for the second cycle was observed, followed by a decrease to around 55%, 18% and 11% in both height and yield for subsequent cycles. The diameter increased, whilst the areal density decreased in subsequent cycles.In the absence of hydrogen the CNTs have around seven walls, decreasing to about three by the seventh cycle. With hydrogen, CNTs have five or six walls for all cycles. Raman spectroscopy indicates an increase in disorder in later cycles. Spinnability is high for initial cycles but drops sharply on the fourth cycle, or third cycle with hydrogen, as the nanotube forest tortuosity markedly increases.  相似文献

Nanocomposites based on poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and exfoliated graphite nanoplate (xGnP) were prepared by solution precipitation method. The resulting nanocomposites were investigated with respect to their structure and properties by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, and dynamic mechanical analysis. Both SEM and TEM examinations confirmed the good dispersion of xGnP in the PVDF matrix. The nonisothermal crystallization behavior of the PVDF/xGnP nanocomposites was studied using DSC technique at various cooling rates. The results indicated that the xGnPs in nanometer size might act as nucleating agents and accelerated the overall nonisothermal crystallization process. Meanwhile, the incorporation of xGnP significantly improved the storage modulus of the PVDF/xGnP nanocomposites. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2011  相似文献

In this article we use fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) to investigate how a classic coalescing aid, such as 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate (Texanol?) (TX), acts on the earliest stages of polymer diffusion as the latex film is still drying. In our approach, we temporarily arrest the drying process of a partially wet latex film by sealing it in an airtight chamber previously cooled to near the latex Tg. At these conditions, we are able to effectively stop the drying process and the polymer diffusion. FRET measurements at various locations on such a sample provide us information about the mechanism operating at the initial stages of polymer diffusion as the latex film is still drying. We complete our study with FRET measurements carried out at longer aging times on predried latex films. We analyze our diffusion data in terms of free volume theory and propose a mechanism that can account for the results obtained.  相似文献
