Synthesis and properties of chemically coupled poly(thiophene)

We describe the synthesis and physical properties of poly(thiophene) with a molecular weight of approximately 4000 consisting of 46 – 47 thiophene rings (184 – 188 carbons along the backbone). The pristine polymer exhibits an ESR line similar to that of cis-(CH)_x; the small number of unpaired spins is consistent with relatively high-quality material. The electrical conductivity can be increased by nearly ten orders of magnitude to values in excess of $\text{10 Ω}{}^{\mathrm{?1}}\text{cm}{}^{\mathrm{?1}}$ upon partial oxidation by AsF₅. The magnitude and temperature dependence of the thermopower of the doped polymer (24 mol%) are consistent with metallic behavior. The decrease in conductivity as the temperature is lowered and the magnitude of π at room temperature apparently result from the macroscopic transport being limited by interparticle contacts.     

Active brazing alloy paste as a totally metal thick film conductor material

A silver-based active (titanium-containing) brazing alloy, namely 63Ag-34.25Cu-1.75Ti-1.OSn, was found to serve as a totally metal (no glass) thick film conductor which exhibited lower electrical resistivity, much greater film/substrate adhesion, much lower porosity, similar solderability, and lower scratch resistance compared to the conventional silver-glass thick film. The brazing alloy film was formed by screen printing a paste containing the alloy particles and then firing at 880°C in vacuum.     

Q-switching of semiconductor lasers

A scheme forQ-switching semiconductor lasers is proposed and analyzed. The method is based upon electrooptic switching of the Bragg reflectivity of the grating reflectors forming the cavity of the semiconductor laser. The basic configuration, the operating principles, and the dynamic behavior of these lasers are described. Although the maximum initial inversion in this laser system is limited to a rather low value, the peak output power is found to be higher than the value usually obtained in a CW GaAs double-heterostructure (DH) laser by two orders of magnitude. A pulsewidth shorter than 100 ps is shown to be obtainable.     

Wavelength- and Polarization-Independent Operation of Differential $M$ -ary PSK Receiver Based on Single Delay Interferometer Using 120$^{circ}$ Optical Hybrid

In this letter, we demonstrate the wavelength- and polarization-independent operation of a receiver for differential quadrature phase-shift-keying and 8-ary phase-shift-keying signals, which utilizes a single delay interferometer made of a 3 times 3 optical coupler. We show that the phase distortion, which occurred in the proposed receiver, can be reduced to less than 2deg without any adjustments. This feature enabled us to achieve nearly quantum-limited sensitivities.     

Error concealment of multi-view video sequences using inter-view and intra-view correlations

An efficient error concealment algorithm for multi-view video sequences is proposed in this work. First, we develop three concealment modes: temporal bilateral error concealment (TBEC), inter-view bilateral error concealment (IBEC), and multi-hypothesis error concealment (MHEC). TBEC and IBEC, respectively, exploit intra-view and inter-view correlations in multi-view video sequences to reconstruct an erroneous block. MHEC finds a few candidate blocks based on the block matching principle and combines them for the concealment. We then propose a mode selection scheme, which chooses one of the three modes adaptively to provide reliable and accurate concealment results. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can protect the quality of reconstructed videos effectively even in severe error conditions.

Thermal,physical and flame-retardant properties of phosphorus-containing epoxy cured with cyanate ester

Two phosphorus-containing advanced epoxy resins were obtained by chain-extension of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A epoxy (DGEBA) resin with 2-(6-oxido-6H-dibenz(c,e)(1,2)-oxaphosphorin-6-yl)-1,4-benzenediol (DOPOBQ), at different stoichiometric ratios. The phosphorus-containing advanced epoxy was separately cured with various dicyanate esters to form flame-retardant epoxy/cyanate ester systems. The effects of phosphorus content and dicyanate ester structure were studied, and compared with those of the control (advanced bisphenol-A epoxy) system. The DOPOBQ-containing epoxy/cyanate ester systems exhibited higher glass transition temperatures, better dimensional stability and better thermal stability.
