2 experiments attempted to (a) confirm previous observations that the slope of the negative relationship between reaction time (RT) and the length of the preparatory interval (PI) was steeper in schizophrenic than in normal Ss, and (b) investigate the effects of the PI on one trial on RT to the subsequent trial (PPI). The results show that the curves relating the PI with RT are significantly steeper for the patients even when differences in "baseline" RT level are controlled. Also, the detrimental effects of long PPIs are much greater for the schizophrenics. The data suggest that instead of establishing a generalized preparatory set, the schizophrenic Ss simplify the task by basing their pattern of preparation largely on the just preceding trial. Berry pomace is a by‐product of juice processing that, after drying and milling, may be used as an ingredient in cereal‐based products. This, on the one hand, not only reduces losses of edible raw material components, but also increases the nutritional value of the target food because of its high dietary fibre and bioactive compounds content. By using savoury crackers as model, this study analyses how a partial flour replacement by blackcurrant pomace (levels: 10%, 20% or 30%) affects physical properties of the respective dough (dynamic rheology in simulated baking, extensibility and adhesiveness) and characteristics of the baked product (colour, texture and sensory properties). Pomace addition significantly affected both systems. By considering the high moisture absorption capacity of this material through water level adaptation in formulations and by only substituting gluten‐free flour (which led to a constant gluten content), it is demonstrated that even a flour replacement of up to 30% leads to acceptable products. A restrained protein development was observed in pomace containing dough, leading to a lower extensibility, and to reduced volume increase and lower breaking force after baking. In contrast, dough handling and sensory acceptance were not corrupted by pomace application even though colour of the final product was changed to a great extent.  相似文献

Reduction of energy in foods by eliminating sugar, combined with an increase in fiber, frequently results in products with sensory characteristics that cannot be compared with standard counterparts. This study analyzed the response of young educated consumers (n = 704) on standard or reduced-sugar vanilla yogurt enriched with inulin or with inulin combined with a grain mixture, a milled mixture of flakes, or a combination of grains and milled flakes. On a nine-point hedonic scale, mean acceptance was 6.4 and 6.8 for yogurt with 112 g kg?1 and 160 g kg?1 sugar, respectively. It was concluded from acceptance data and from results obtained by just-about-right rating that adapting the flavoring concentration might be an appropriate tool to mask sugar reduction. In yogurt with visible fiber, it is mainly the size of incorporated fiber that should be considered in product optimization. In these products, sugar content significantly affects acceptance.  相似文献

It was investigated whether and to what extent the results obtained by various methods of determining bacterial toxicity in waste water could be applied to conditions prevailing in activated sludge plants or in receiving water.3.5-Dichlorphenol (DCP) was studied as an example of a persistent chemical which constitutes a pollution risk to water. The bacterial toxicity limits determined by five different methods—respiration after a 20-h consumption period, consumption rate after 2-h incubation, dehydrogenase activity determined with TTC. gas formation in a fermentation tube and inhibition of the cell division of Pseudomonas—all agreed with the toxicity limit of 5 mg DCP I−1 found in degradation tests in laboratory activated sludge equipment. No safety margin need be taken into account when the test results are applied to biological purification plants.In the activated sludge plants the degradation of the industrial waste water was markedly impaired only when the DCP concentration was increased to 25 mg I−1. This varied in degree according to the sludge load at the beginning of the trial.Shock loads of DCP did not cause the expected fall-off in degradation but only a moderate fluctuation in its rate. The decline in degradation following continuous and also discontinuous addition of DCP was largely or completely overcome within a few weeks by the bacteria becoming adapted to DCP.In samples of river water the toxicity limit as determined by the tests was in the region of 2 mg I−1.  相似文献

Many nanotechnological devices are based on implementing electrochemistry with plasmonic nanostructures, but these systems are challenging to understand. We present a detailed study of the influence of electrochemical potentials on plasmon resonances, in the absence of surface coatings and redox active molecules, by synchronized voltammetry and spectroscopy. The experiments are performed on gold nanodisks and nanohole arrays in thin gold films, which are fabricated by improved methods. New insights are provided by high resolution spectroscopy and variable scan rates. Furthermore, we introduce new analytical models in order to understand the spectral changes quantitatively. In contrast to most previous literature, we find that the plasmonic signal is caused almost entirely by the formation of ionic complexes on the metal surface, most likely gold chloride in this study. The refractometric sensing effect from the ions in the electric double layer can be fully neglected, and the charging of the metal gives a surprisingly small effect for these systems. Our conclusions are consistent for both localized nanoparticle plasmons and propagating surface plasmons. We consider the results in this work especially important in the context of combined electrochemical and optical sensors.  相似文献

Measurement of multilayer material properties with fringing electric field dielectrometry sensors requires the processing of terminal admittance data from multiple electrode pairs. The choice of the algorithmic approach for data analysis is critical because of a high sensitivity to small measurement uncertainties. While individual channel uncertainties are usually within a reasonable instrumentation range, measurement of properties of multiple material layers fails unless special techniques are used to prevent numerical instabilities. This paper demonstrates the mechanism of uncertainty in a successive stair-step property estimation in which the estimates of one layer's properties are used to estimate the subsequent layer's properties. Three-wavelength measurements of dielectric permittivity and conductivity illustrate the problem in two-layer experimental setups. Limitations of the stair-step approach and possible future improvements are discussed.  相似文献
