Finite element simulations of the high-temperature behavior of single-phase γ, dual-phase α2+γ, and fully lamellar (FL) α2+γTiAl intermetallic alloy microstructures have been performed. Nonlinear viscous primary creep deformation is modeled in
each phase based on published creep data. Models were also developed that incorporate grain boundary and lath boundary sliding
in addition to the dislocation creep flow within each phase. Overall strain rates are compared to gain an understanding of
the relative influence each of these localized deformation mechanisms has on the creep strength of the microstructures considered.
Facet stress enhancement factors were also determined for the transverse grain facets in each model to examine the relative
susceptibility to creep damage. The results indicate that a mechanism for unrestricted sliding of γ lath boundaries theorized
by Hazzledine and co-workers leads to unrealistically high strain rates. However, the results also suggest that the greater
creep strength observed experimentally for the lamellar microstructure is primarily due to inhibited former grain boundary
sliding (GBS) in this microstructure compared to relatively unimpeded GBS in the equiaxed microstructures. The serrated nature
of the former grain boundaries generally observed for lamellar TiAl alloys is consistent with this finding. 相似文献

The authors review the principles of reconstructive surgery for lower limb salvage after severe lower limb trauma to determine factors that have been used as decision-making criteria for limb salvage or amputation in severe lower extremity injuries and the methods of reconstruction and their outcome. The use of scoring systems and their value in acute decision making (primary amputation or limb salvage) are described. Soft-tissue reconstructive techniques, with emphasis on the use of flaps and the importance of selecting the best technique and time for the reconstruction are reviewed. Skeletal reconstructive techniques are described, including available options and currently held views on indications and use of the best contemporary methods. It is essential for the physician to make a good initial decision on the need for primary amputation or limb salvage. A multidisciplinary approach is fundamental to successful salvage. 相似文献

This paper exploits the potential of the Genetic Algorithm to solve the cellular resource allocation problem. When a blocked host is to be allocated to a borrowable channel, a crucial decision is which neighboring cell to choose to borrow a channel. It is an optimization problem and the genetic algorithm is efficiently applied to handle this. The Genetic Algorithm, for this particular problem, is improved by introducing a new genetic operator, named pluck, that incorporates a problem-specific knowledge in population generation and leads to a better channel utilization by reducing the average blocked hosts. The pluck operator makes the crucial decision of when and which cell to borrow with the future consideration that the borrowing should not lead the network to chaos. It makes a channel borrowing decision that minimizes the number of blocked hosts and improves the long-term performance of the network. Both estradiol and nonylphenol (NP) inhibited hepatic microsomal 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) activity of beta-naphthoflavone-treated rats. Enzyme kinetic analyses (Lineweaver-Burk plots) using different estradiol and NP concentrations with graded increases in the concentrations of the substrate, ethoxyresorufin, showed that the inhibition was of a competitive nature at all concentrations of estradiol or NP used. Thus, the mechanism by which NP inhibits EROD activity is similar to that of estradiol. NP, however, was much less potent than estradiol. Young rats treated in vivo with 80 mg/kg body weight of NP demonstrated a slight but significant decrease in their hepatic microsomal EROD activity and CYP1A protein as measured by western blot analysis. In addition, treatment with NP led to a decrease in the steady-state levels of hepatic CYP1A mRNA in rats, suggesting that NP acted at the pre-translational level. The competitive nature of inhibition by NP on hepatic microsomal EROD activity indirectly suggests that this compound is a possible substrate of the CYP1A enzyme. Furthermore, NP had a moderate modulating effect on the expression of CYP1A in rat liver. 相似文献

Sample preparation for DNA and RNA assays is a prime candidate for laboratory automation. A novel, parallel processing device that performs the three separate liquid-handling functions necessary for such sample preparation-dispensing, pipetting, and pressurizing-is presented. The device comprises an array of fine nozzles connected by fluidic channels to automatically and precisely distribute flow between one source and an array of points. The design principles, as well as the experimental and computational methods used to develop the device, are described. Test results, including accuracy, uniformity, volume range, and timing, are presented. The functionality of the device is demonstrated by performing a solid-phase extraction of DNA with two types of microcolumns. 相似文献

In the present study, the effect of lifting task parameters on the heart rate and oxygen uptake of workers during manual lifting tasks in different ambient conditions was evaluated. The experiments conducted in two different temperature conditions showed a significantly higher oxygen uptake and heart rate in colder conditions as compared to warmer conditions. Three other factors, namely, load, lifting frequency, and vertical distance were found to significant affect the responses. Various combinations of significant factors were used to calculate oxygen uptake and heart rate. These were then compared with the safe limits as per the maximum aerobic capacity of workers. Based on these comparisons, the safe combinations were identified that can be used to design lifting tasks in varied ambient conditions. The study further concluded that lifting tasks performed in winter should have different relaxation or fatigue allowances built into the cycle time of the task to compensate for higher exertion. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 相似文献

Dense (~97%) CaO-stabilized ZrO2 ceramic was stabilized with minimum (3 mol%) doping (reported to date) and processed via conventional sintering at a low temperature (~1200°C); compositional analysis via X-ray florescence confirmed the CaO doping accuracy. Phase-pure tetragonal structure (characterized via both X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy) along with uniform nanograins (90 nm) of the ceramic ensured the evolution of no monoclinic phase even after vigorous low-temperature degradation experiments (both thermal and hydrothermal aging for 80-100 h). The sintered ceramic recorded a high hardness (~15 GPa); the indentation toughness value was also comparable to a 3 mol% yttria-stabilized zirconia system. The remarkable structure–property correlations in the 3 mol% CaO-stabilized ZrO2 ceramic suggests that the same may be worth examining for suitable future applications (e.g., in dental ceramics). 相似文献

Natural rubber is one of the most potential electro-active polymers for sensors, actuators, and energy harvesting applications. Enhancing the characteristic properties of polymers by reinforcing with fillers that possess multifunctional attributes have attracted considerable attention. In the present study, barium titanate reinforced natural rubber composite is prepared by using two-roll mill mixing. Afterwards, mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical properties of the composites are extensively analyzed by reinforcing different amounts of barium titanate into the matrix of natural rubber. The fabricated dielectric composite shows excellent properties such as high dielectric constant, low dielectric losses, high dielectric breakdown strength, and extreme stretchability. It is observed that as the filler loading reaches the value of 11 parts per hundred rubber (phr), maximum agglomeration of the particles occurs. Maximum stretchability and highest ratio of dielectric constant to elastic modulus are obtained at 8 phr of barium titanate fillers and at the loading, a maximum actuation strain of 11.24% is achieved. This study provides a simple, economical, and effective method for preparing enhanced mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical properties of natural rubber composites, facilitating the wide applications of dielectric materials as actuators and generators. 相似文献
