(S)-2-(Ethyl propionate)-(O-ethyl xanthate) (X1) and (S)-2-(Ethyl isobutyrate)-(O-ethyl xanthate) (X2) were used as the reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) agents for the radical polymerization of vinyl acetate (VAc). The former showed the better chain transfer ability in the polymerization at 60°C. Kinetic study with both RAFT agents showed pseudo-first order kinetics up to around 85% monomer conversion. Molecular weight of the resulting polymer increased linearly with increase in the monomer conversion up to around 85%. The observed molecular weights calculated from 1H-NMR spectrum [Mn(NMR)] are close to the corresponding theoretical molecular weights [Mn(theor)]. The corresponding polydispersity index (PDI) of the resulting polymers remained almost constant at around 1.2 up to ∼ 65% monomer conversion and then increased gradually with the further increase in the monomer conversion. Chain-end analysis of the resulting polymers by 1H-NMR showed clearly that polymerization started with the radical forming out of the xanthate mediator. The negligible homo-chain extension and the hetero-chain extension involving synthesis of poly(VAc)-b-poly(NVP) diblock copolymer were occurred. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. TiO2:Dy3+ powders without any secondary phases have been prepared by solid‐state reaction through the optimization of synthesis conditions, doping amount and subsequently through a purification step. The maximum dysprosium solubility was found at 0.43 mol% in the range 800–900°C. The Rietveld refinement was performed to calculate the amount of phases and lattice constants. The effect of synthesis conditions and doping on strain and crystallite size is also discussed. Room temperature photoluminescence of TiO2:Dy3+ shows blue and yellow color emission. It is shown that yellow emission can be enhanced with the reduction of the pyrochlore phase Dy2Ti2O7.  相似文献

The present work reports the effect of La-substitution on structural and functional properties of lead cobalt titanate (PCT) perovskite structure as a function of variation of Co-content. The sol-gel synthesized and microwave heated Pb0.8 Co0.2-zLazTiO3 (z?=?0.05, 0.1, 0.15 & 0.2) (PCLT) nanoparticles showed the presence of complete cubic phases while few were noted to be tetragonal lead titanate (PT) phases. The surface morphology was examined by field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM). The HRTEM revealed fibers like nanoparticles at z?=?0.15 and 0.2. The Fourier transform infrared spectra attributed the presence of metal oxide bonds. Furthermore, the wide optical band gap energy (Eop) was acquired to be changing from 2.32 to 3.20?eV. In addition, the electrical parameters such as dielectric constant (ε'), dielectric loss (ε"), ac & dc-electrical conductivity (σac & σdc), complex dielectric modulus (M*) and complex impedance (Z*) were studied as a function of frequency (f) and composition. Using power law fitting, the σdc values were determined. The z?=?0.15 content exhibited high σdc of ~ 2.51?×?10?7 S/cm among all compositions. Besides, the results expressed the existence of short range and long range hopping conduction regions in dielectric modulus spectra. The Nyquist plots were drawn to elucidate the electrical conduction and relaxation mechanism. Later on, ferroelectric hysteresis loops were recorded for z?=?0.05–0.2.  相似文献

Carbon nanofiller reinforced polymeric materials offer the opportunity to obtain materials with desired properties. In the present study, effects of different loading of graphene oxide (GO) on the compatibility, thermomechanical, and morphological properties of incompatible polypropylene (PP)/polycarbonate (PC) polymer blends were investigated. The neat blend and blend nanocomposites were prepared by using a twin‐screw extruder under controlled shear pressure to explore the role of GO on thermomechanical properties of blends. Fourier transform infrared analysis showed the presence of GO in PC phase which was further confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry and morphological analysis. It was observed that up to loading of 0.5%, GO preferable dispersed in only PC phase and then dispersed in both PP and PC phase with further increase in GO loading due to increase in viscosity of PC phase. Field emission scanning electron microscopy investigation of PNCs showed the coalescence of PC phase with increase of GO loading. Tensile analysis confirmed that 1% of GO loading produced highest reinforcement in thermomechanical properties and further increase of GO loading deteriorate the mechanical properties. Dynamic mechanical analysis also showed high storage modulus for 1% loading. Calcium carbonate nanoparticles were synthesized from eggshell waste using ball mill treatment and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and field‐emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) analysis. Then, waste eggshell‐derived nano calcium carbonate (WESNCC) was used as filler to reinforce natural rubber (NR) composites with and without the presence of maleated natural rubber (MNR) as compatibilizer. MNR‐compatibilized NR/WESNCC composites showed remarkable enhancement in the torque difference, tensile, and thermal properties as compared to either uncompatibilized NR/WESNCC composites or unfilled NR system. Crosslinking degree measurements indicated excellent interfacial interaction between NR matrix and WESNCC in presence of MNR as compatibilizer. A probable mechanism is suggested to explain the interaction between NR matrix and WESNCC in the presence of MNR. This study provides unique way to develop WESNCC‐based rubber composites for future industrial and engineering application. POLYM. ENG. The present study evaluates on the static tensile behavior of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites at 50% and 70% volume fractions of reinforcement tested at room (25 °C), 70 °C, 90 °C, and 110 °C temperatures with 1, 10, 100, 500, and 1000 mm/min crosshead speeds to investigate the impact of high temperature on the mechanical properties and different dominating failures modes. The experimental results reveal that with increase in crosshead speeds the tensile strength of the composite is increasing. The effect of crosshead speeds and temperature with changing fiber volume fractions affects the GFRP composite. Although both the composite systems are found to be crosshead speed sensitive. Crosshead speed sensitivity seems to be more unpredictable at high temperature and at high crosshead speed. Furthermore, it appears to be more unprecedented nature of fluctuation with high fiber volume fraction. The crucial parameters required during the materials designing in various structural components were evaluated and modelled with the help of Weibull constitutive model. The fractography analyses were done to identify the various dominating failure modes in the GFRP composite. There was no significant change found in the glass transition temperatures (Tg) of both the composite system when exposed to different temperature environments. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Due to its high reactivity, monochloroacetic acid (MCA) is an essential intermediate used in the manufacturing of a wide variety of chemicals. Its industrial production process is highly energy- and capital-intensive, requiring costly purification steps to remove dichloroacetic acid (DCA) impurities. Here, an innovative eco-efficient process for MCA-DCA separation is proposed based on extractive distillation in a fully thermally coupled system (a dividing-wall column (DWC) or an equivalent side-rectifier configuration) using a new effective solvent: diethylene glycol dipentylether. The design was optimized by performing sensitivity analyses and varying key operating and design parameters. The study proves that separating MCA-DCA by an extractive DWC (or thermally coupled) is feasible, efficient, controllable, economic, and sustainable.  相似文献

The present investigation describes the development of a regression model for dry colour prediction based on the colour of wet leather. Such a prediction will be useful in the colour matching of leather – the time delay in drying of wet leather and determination of the final colour can be avoided. The use of computer technology interfaced with a reflectance spectrophotometer provides a novel approach to the prediction of dry colour from wet colour. In this study, five different regression models, i.e. linear fit, log fit, quadratic fit, log quadratic fit and cubic fit, were developed, with the dry reflectance of the leather sample as a dependent variable and the wet reflectance of the leather as an independent variable. The relationship between moisture content and surface leather colour, a prerequisite for enabling prediction, was studied. The obtained log quadratic model can be used for accurate prediction of dry colour from wet colour.  相似文献
