Radiotherapy is one of the most important means we have for the treatment of localised tumours. It is therefore essential to optimize the technique, and a lot of effort goes into this endeavour. Since the proposal by Wilson in 1946 [R.R. Wilson, Radiology use of fast protons, Radiology 47 (1946) 487.] that proton beams might be better than photon beams at inactivating cancer cells, hadron therapy has been developed in parallel with photon therapy and a substantial knowledge has been gained on the effects of pions, protons and heavy ions (mostly carbon ions). Here we discuss the recent measurements by the CERN ACE collaboration of the biological effects of antiprotons, and argue that these particles very likely are the optimal agents for radiotherapy.  相似文献

This paper presents a framework for examining joint optimal channel-capacity allocation and controller design for networked control systems using store-and-forward networks in a discrete-time linear time-invariant setting. The resultant framework provides a synthesis procedure for designing distributed linear control laws for capacity-constrained networks taking the allocation of the capacity within the network into account.  相似文献

We design an observer-protocol pair to asymptotically reconstruct the states of a linear time-invariant (LTI) plant under communication constraints induced by the network. We parameterize a class of observers and protocols, and for a given network transmission interval, we derive sufficient conditions in terms of matrix inequalities for the existence of an observer-protocol pair in the considered class that asymptotically reconstructs the plant states.  相似文献

In this paper, the linear quadratic optimization problem for a class of linear stochastic systems subject both to multiplicative white noise and Markovian jumping is investigated. Two classes of admissible controls are considered. One of these classes contains controls with additional property that corresponding trajectories tend to zero (in mean square) when tends to /spl infin/, while concerning the controls contained in the second class of admissible controls there is not any stability assumption. In the optimization problem over the first class of admissible controls, the cost functional could have indefinite sign of weights matrices. An iterative procedure to compute the maximal solution of the systems of generalized Riccati equations is provided. A numerical example to illustrate the applicability of the iterative procedure is given.  相似文献

We observe the Common Channel Signaling (CCS) No 7 link availability under short error bursts or clusters with high bit error rate (BER), and compare it to the availability of CCS No 7 link under equivalent random errors. It is shown that the mean time to changeover of the CCS No 7 link in the case of error clusters is greater than in the case of random errors of same intensity. The reason for this positive impact of short clusters with high BER is the concentration of more than one errored bits in one errored signal unit. In the same time the mean alignment time of CCS No 7 link (that is out of service) is shortest if errors are grouped in rare short error clusters. Hence, the availability of CCS No 7 link increases and frequency of CCS No 7 link oscillations decreases, if errors are grouped.  相似文献

Extended-period simulation of incompressible and inertialess flow in water distribution systems is normally done using numerical integration techniques, although regression methods are also sometimes employed. A new method for extended-period simulation, called the explicit integration (EI) method, is proposed. The method is based on the premise that a complex water distribution system can be represented by a number of simple base systems. The simple base systems are selected in such a way that their dynamic equations can be solved through explicit integration. In this paper a simple base system consisting of a fixed-head reservoir feeding a tank through a single pipeline is analyzed. It is then illustrated how a complex water distribution system can be decoupled into simple base systems and its dynamic behavior simulated using a stepwise procedure. The EI method is compared to the commonly used Euler numerical integration method using two example networks. It is shown that the accuracy of the EI method is considerably better than that of the Euler method for the same computational effort.  相似文献
