Apparatus comprising a scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and an atomic force microscopy (AFM) has been developed for use under supra-atmospheres. Observations of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) were carried out by STM and contact AFM operating in air and various gas atmospheres (hydrogen, helium, neon and argon) under pressures up to 1.1 MPa. Atomic resolution images of the HOPG were obtained by STM in all the gas atmospheres studied. However, it was found that the presence of water vapor gave rise to a noise current at increased pressures. Using contact AFM, the atomic resolution in an argon atmosphere decreased with increasing pressure, while atomic images were obtained under the other gas atmospheres at 1.1 MPa.  相似文献

Summary Colloid titrations of human carboxyhemoglobin were carried out at different pH. The total number of basic groups in the hemoglobin was 95, as evaluated by the titration with potassium poly (vinyl alcohol) sulfate (KPVS). The value estimated was comparable with that obtained from the amino acid sequence of human hemoglobin. This finding indicates the stoichiometric salt-linkage formation between the basic groups in the hemoglobin and the KOSO3-groups in KPVS.  相似文献

With respect to the impurity emission and erosion of a Be first wall, a secondary ion mass spectrometric investigation was carried out along with surface characterization with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was found that Be is emitted as distinct types of chemical forms from the surface owing to sputtering with Ar+ and an (Ar++ D+2) mixture: (i) Be and Be-cluster, (ii) oxide and hydroxide, and (iii) hydride and/or deuteride.  相似文献

The dynamic properties of machine structures are significantly influenced by an interaction at the mating surfaces of machine elements. This interaction is called contact stiffness, and the development of a simple method for contact stiffness estimation is an important tribological objective. In this paper the contact stiffness is estimated by a beam model vibrating on an elastic foundation. The effects of clamping condition and mating surface topography on the contact stiffness obtained are quantitatively and accurately represented by experimental equations.  相似文献

The evaluation of antioxidant activity in vivo is difficult. In this study, the effects of dietary natural and synthetic antioxidants on the lipid peroxidation in mice were assessed using a biomarker, total hydroxyoctadecadienoic acid (tHODE). Biological samples such as plasma, erythrocytes, and tissues were first reduced and then saponified to convert various oxidation products of linoleates to tHODE. Subsequently, the absolute concentration of tHODE and its stereoisomer ratio, [9- and 13-(Z,E)-HODE)/[9- and 13-(E,E)-HODE], which is a measure of the hydrogen donor capacity of antioxidants, were determined by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analyses. These were then compared with total 8-iso-prostaglandin F (t8-iso-PGF) which was also assessed after reduction and saponification. Remarkable increases in tHODE and t8-iso-PGF levels were observed in the plasma, erythrocytes, liver, and brain of mice that were fed an α-tocopherol (αT)-stripped (E-free) diet for 1 month when compared with those of mice that were fed a standard diet (αT = 0.002 wt%). When mice were fed for 1 month on an E-free diet supplemented with a lipophilic antioxidant (0.04 wt%), namely, αT, α-tocotrienol (αT3), γ-tocopherol (γT), or 2,3-dihydro-5-hydroxy-4,6-di-tert-butyl-2,2-dipentylbenzofuran (BO-653), a potent synthetic antioxidant, the increases of tHODE and t8-iso-PGF in the plasma, erythrocytes, liver, and brain were suppressed to the levels lower than those of mice fed a standard diet. The (Z,E/E,E) HODE ratio was decreased in the plasma and erythrocytes of mice fed the E-free diet when compared with that in mice fed the standard diet. This stereo-isomeric ratio was significantly recovered by the addition of αT and BO-653. These results show that the tHODE level and the (Z,E/E,E) HODE ratio are useful biomarkers for the assessment of antioxidant capacity in vivo and that the antioxidant capacity decreased in the order: BO-653 > αT3 ≧ αT, γT, as assessed by tHODE levels from blood, liver, and brain.  相似文献

Gigacycle fatigue data sheets have been published since 1997 by the National Institute for Materials Science. They cover several areas such as high-cycle-number fatigue for high-strength steels and titanium alloys, the fatigue of welded joints, and high-temperature fatigue for advanced ferritic heat-resistant steels. Some unique testing machines are used to run the tests up to an extremely high number of cycles such as 1010 cycles. A characteristic of gigacycle fatigue failure is that it is initiated inside smooth specimens; the fatigue strength decreases with increasing cycle number and the fatigue limit disappears, although ordinary fatigue failure initiates from the surface of a smooth specimen and a fatigue limit appears. For welded joints, fatigue failure initiates from the notch root of the weld, because a large amount of stress is concentrated at the weld toe. The fatigue strength of welded joints has been obtained for up to 108 cycles, which is an extremely high number of cycles for large welded joints. TiFe is a potential candidate for the stationary hydrogen storage systems, but it requires initial activation to absorb hydrogen. This study shows that TiFe processed by high-pressure torsion (HPT) absorbs and desorbs 1.7 wt.% hydrogen at room temperature without activation. The absorption pressure decreases from 2 MPa in the first hydrogenation cycle to 0.7 MPa in the latter cycles. The HPT-processed TiFe exhibits heterogeneous microstructures composed of nanograins, coarse-grains, amorphous-like phases and disordered phases with a high hardness of ∼1050 Hv.  相似文献

Ball milled Mg–Co alloys with body-centered cubic structure (BCC) may absorb hydrogen at 258 K with a hydrogen capacity around 3 mass%. The phase and morphology evolution process of Mg50Co50 alloys ball milled for 0.5 h–400 h was studied by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. The formation mechanism of the Mg50Co50 alloys was clarified. Mg50Co50 alloys ball milled for various durations were found to present different hydrogen storage properties which could result from the phase and morphology difference in these samples.  相似文献

Intermetallics of TiFe were processed using three different routes: annealing, plastic deformation using groove rolling and severe plastic deformation using high-pressure torsion (HPT). Hydrogen absorption was less than 0.2 wt.% in the coarse-grained annealed sample because of difficult activation. The groove-rolled sample, with subgrain structure and high density of dislocations and cracks, absorbed 0.3, 1.0, 1.4 and 1.7 wt.% of hydrogen in the first, second, third and fourth hydrogenation cycles, respectively. The HPT-processed sample, containing nanograins, absorbed 1.7–2 wt.% of hydrogen in any hydrogenation cycles. Both samples activated by groove rolling and HPT were not deactivated by long time exposure to the air. No surface segregation was detected after groove rolling, while the HPT-processed sample exhibited surface segregation. The current study confirmed the significance of plastic deformation and formation of grain boundaries and cracks on activation for hydrogen storage.  相似文献
