The oxidative stability of sunflower oil (SFO) was measured during storage at 23 and 37°C in the presence of a novel oxygen-scavenging film that contained polyfuryloxirane (PFO). Commercially refined and deodorized SFO was stored in a lighted room in sealed transparent packages containing either PFO film or an antioxidant, 0.02% butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). Oxidative stability was evaluated by determination of peroxide values and gas-chromatographic measurement of headspace hexanal. SFO stored in the presence of the oxygen-scavenging film was more stable than oil stored without the film, or than film stored with 0.02% BHT. The PFO film scavenges oxygen through energy-transfer sensitization of singlet oxygen. The film is doped with eosin and the naturally-occurring dye, curcumin, which absorb over a wide range of visible wavelengths. Curcumin transfers its absorbed energy to eosin, which sensitizes the production of singlet oxygen. The singlet oxygen is scavenged by PFO. The use of two dyes increases the efficiency of the sensitization process, reducing the illumination time and intensity required for effective oxygen scavenging.  相似文献

Polypropylene and ethylene‐propylene‐diene terpolymer (PP/EPDM) blends were melt compounded in a new mixing device, designed in our laboratory under the trademark of RMX®, which predominantly generates elongational flows. Dispersion of the EPDM minor phase in PP was carried out in both RMX® and in an internal mixer (Haake Rheomix 600) at equivalent specific mixing energies and the resultant morphologies obtained by SEM were analyzed and compared. A better dispersive mixing efficiency of the RMX® mixer, i.e., lower Dn and Dv of the dispersed EPDM phase was observed. The impact of elongational flow was more pronounced for blends having a high viscosity ratio p, indicating an enhanced droplet break‐up mechanism, which was attributed to the combination of high shear rates inside the mixing element and important elongational flows in the convergent/divergent zones. The morphology of the blends was correlated with their linear viscoelastic properties by using the Palierne model. Very good agreement was found for the PP/EPDM 80/20 blends but for higher EPDM content, the Palierne model failed to describe the rheological behavior, which was attributed to percolation of the minor phase with increasing the concentration. Higher elasticity at low frequencies was observed for blends processed in the RMX®, which was attributed to a higher generated interfacial area. POLYM. ENG. In this study, we report the distribution of orexin A (OXA), orexin B (OXB), and orexin receptor (OX2R) immunoreactive (ir) cells in the hypothalamus and gastrointestinal tract of Oncorhynchus mykiss fed diets with different dietary fatty acid compositions. Trout were fed five iso‐energetic experimental diets containing fish oil, or one of four different vegetable oils (olive, sunflower, linseed, and palm oils) as the added dietary lipid source for 12 weeks. OXA, OXB, and OX2R immunoreactive neurons and nervous fibers were identified in the lateral and ventro‐medial hypothalamus. OXA, OXB, and OX2R ir cells were found in the mucosa and glands of the stomach and in the mucosa of both the pyloric cecae and intestine. OX2R ir cells were localized in the mucosa layer of both the pyloric cecae and intestine. These immunohistochemical (IHC) results were confirmed via Western blotting. Antibodies against preproorexin (PPO) crossreacted with a band of ~16 kDa in the hypothalamus, stomach, pyloric cecae, and intestine. Antibodies against OX2R crossreacted with a band of ~38 kDa in the hypothalamus, pyloric cecae, and intestine. The presence and distribution of OXA, OXB, and OX2R ir cells in the hypothalamus and gastrointestinal tract did not appear to be affected by dietary oils. The presence of orexin system immunoreactive cells in the stomach, pyloric cecae, and intestine of rainbow trout, but not in the enteric nervous system, could suggest a possible role of these peptides as signaling of gastric emptying or endocrine modulation, implying a main local action played by orexins. Two new isostructural intermetallic germanides, LiSrGe2 and LiBaGe2, were synthesized as single crystals from constituent elements in molten Na. They both crystallize in the space group Pnma (no. 62) with a = 7.142(1), b = 4.459(1), c = 11.550(2) Å, Z = 4, and a = 7.381(1), b = 4.617(1), c = 11.837(1) Å, Z = 4, for LiSrGe2 and LiBaGe2, respectively. They contain one-dimensional anionic germanide chains, , running along the a-axis. The chains are in an unusual zigzag-like conformation, with weakly alternating Ge–Ge bond lengths of 2.475(1) and 2.498(1) Å, and 2.473(1) and 2.525(1) Å, for LiSrGe2 and LiBaGe2, respectively. Extended Hückel calculations suggest that LiSrGe2 is metallic: the Fermi level lies within bands having anti-bonding character.  相似文献

Amorphous boron nitride thin coatings (∼0.2 μm) have been formed on Nicalon and C-Nicaion (pre-carbon-coated Nicalon) yarns via dip coating in boric acid solution followed by heating and nitriding in NH3gas at 1000°C. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Auger electron spec-troscopy (AES) studies have shown the formation of boron nitride. The coating was boron rich and contains oxygen. The N/B and O/B ratios range from 0.6 to 0.8 and from 0.1 to 0.25, respectively. Tensile strength measurements revealed that the BN-coated C-Nicalon yarn maintained ∼85% of its original strength while BN-coated Nicalon lost ∼85% of its original strength. Auger depth profiles showed that there was a consumption of carbon during the heating and nitridation process for both BN-coated Nicalon and C-Nicalon fibers. However, the depletion of carbon in BN-coated Nicalon fibers was much more severe than that in BN-coated C-Nicalon fibers.  相似文献

β-dicalcium silicate synthesized by thermal dissociation of hydrothermally prepared hillebrandite (Ca2(SiO3)(OH)2) exhibits extremely high hydration activity. Characterization of the hydrates obtained and investigation of the hydration mechanism was carried out with the aid of trimethylsilylation analysis, 29Si magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance, transmission electron microscopy selected area electron diffraction, and XRD. The silicate anion structure of C-S-H consisted mainly of a dimer and a single-chain polymer. Polymerization advances with increasing curing temperature and curing time. The C-S-H has an oriented fibrous structure and exhibits a 0.73-nm dreierketten in the longitudinal direction. On heating, the C-S-H dissociates to form β-C2S. The temperature at which βC2S begins to form decreases with increasing chain length of the C-S-H or as the Ca/Si ratio becomes higher. The high activity of β-C2S is due to its large specific surface area and the fact that the hydration is chemical-reaction-rate-controlled until its completion. As a result, the hydration progresses in situ and C-S-H with a high Ca/Si ratio is formed.  相似文献

The interfacial characteristics of SiC/C/SiC composites with different fiber-coating bond strengths have been investigated using single-fiber push-out tests. Previous studies have shown that weak or strong bonds can be obtained by using as-received or treated fibers, respectively, and that the stress-strain behavior is improved with the treated fibers. This effect results from multiple branching of the cracks within the interphase. The model used to extract interfacial characteristics from nanoindentation and microindentation tests does not consider the presence of an interphase. However, the results highlight the significant effect of the interphase on the interfacial parameters, as well as the effect of roughness along the sliding surfaces. For the composite with treated fibers, the uncommon upward curvature of the push-out curves is related to different modes of crack propagation in the interphase. Different techniques are required to analyze the interfacial properties, such as nanoindentation and microindentation with push-out and push-back tests.  相似文献

A dynamic mechanical analyzer equipped with a diamond indenter tip was used to measure the elastic modulus of polymeric coatings as well as various bulk materials. A fabricated indenter probe was used to indent bulk samples of aluminum and fused quartz, as well as gelatin and polystyrene films in order to compare the micron-level indentation measurements with sub-micron (nanoindentation) techniques. The measured moduli were in agreement for ductile materials and thick films (>20 μm), but limited displacement resolution, material cracking, and hydrostatic pressure effects led to diverging values for thinner coatings and more brittle materials.  相似文献

Successful imaging of living human cells using atomic force microscopy (AFM) is influenced by many variables including cell culture conditions, cell morphology, surface topography, scan parameters, and cantilever choice. In this study, these variables were investigated while imaging two morphologically distinct human cell lines, namely LL24 (fibroblasts) and NCI H727 (epithelial) cells. The cell types used in this study were found to require different parameter settings to produce images showing the greatest detail. In contact mode, optimal loading forces ranged between 2-2.8 x 10(-9) and 0.1-0.7 x 10(-9) (N) for LL24 and NCI H727 cells respectively. In tapping (AC) mode, images of LL24 cells were obtained using cantilevers with a spring constant of at least 0.32 N/m, while NCI H727 cells required a greater spring constant of at least 0.58 N/m. To obtain tapping mode images, cantilevers needed to be tuned to resonate at higher frequencies than their resonance frequencies to obtain images. For NCI H727 cells, contact mode imaging produced the clearest images. For LL24 cells, contact and tapping mode AFM produced images of comparable quality. Overall, this study shows that cells with different morphologies and surface topography require different scanning approaches and optimal conditions must be determined empirically to achieve images of high quality.  相似文献
