The paper examines the deterministic and stochastic behavior of magnetic ballast discharge lamps. Expressions to deterministically calculate the harmonic currents of discharge lamps are provided and analytical expressions of the probability density functions of these harmonic currents are obtained. Weak optical-feedback effects on the statistical properties of self-pulsations in narrow-stripe semiconductor lasers are analyzed using Lang-Kobayashi-type equations. The self-pulsation features are compared with the characteristics of excited relaxation oscillations. We determine the operating regime in which the randomizing effect of spontaneous-emission noise destroys pulse coherence. In this regime, only phase-insensitive effects of optical feedback are possible, and optimum jitter reduction is achieved with delay times of the order of an integer-odd multiple of the free-running pulsation period. In the high-pump operating regime, interpulse coherence is retained and the optical-feedback phase is shown to be instrumental for pulse-jitter control. Our results show that for cavity lengths up to 10 cm, variations on the order of half an optical wavelength induce jitter variations of one order of magnitude  相似文献

Prediction of transient natural convection heat transfer in vented enclosures has multiple applications such as understanding of cooking environment in ovens and heat sink performance in electronic packaging industry. The thermal field within an oven has significant impact on quality of cooked food and reliable predictions are important for robust design and performance evaluation of an oven. The CFD modeling of electric oven involves three-dimensional, unsteady, natural convective flow-thermal field coupled with radiative heat transfer. However, numerical solution of natural convection in enclosures with openings at top and bottom (ovens) can often lead to non-physical solutions such as reverse flow at the top vent, partly a function of initialization and sometimes dependent on boundary conditions. In this paper, development of a physics based robust CFD methodology is discussed. This model has been developed with rigorous experimental support and transient validation of this model with experiments show less than 3% discrepancy for a bake cycle. There is greater challenge in simulating a broil cycle, where the fluid inside the cavity is stably stratified and is also highlighted. A comparative analyses of bake and broil cycle thermal fields inside the oven are also presented.  相似文献

The elimination of aromatic compounds present in surface water by photo-Fenton with sunlight as the source of radiation was studied. The concentrations of Fe3+ and H2O2 are key factors for this process. A solar simulator and a prototype parabolic collector were used as laboratory-scale reactors to find the parameters of those key factors to be used in the CPC (compound parabolic collector) pilot plant reactor. The initial mineralization rate constant (kobs) was determined and evaluated at different Fe3+ and H2O2 concentrations to find the best values for maximum efficiency. In all the experiments the mineralization of an aqueous phenol solution was described by assuming a pseudo-first-order reaction. The intrinsic kinetic constants not dependent on the lighting conditions were also estimated for scale-up.  相似文献

Therefore, providing efficient, real-time service for tourists is a crucial competitive asset which needs to be enhanced using major technological advances. The current research has the objective of integrating technological innovation into an information system, in order to build a better user experience for the tourist. The principal strength of the approach is the fusion of context-aware pervasive systems, GIS systems, social networks and semantics. This paper presents the SPETA system, which uses knowledge of the user’s current location, preferences, as well as a history of past locations, in order to provide the type of recommender services that tourists expect from a real tour guide.  相似文献

Twenty-four-hour ambulatory pH monitoring is an essential tool for diagnosing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Simultaneous impedance and pH monitoring of the esophagus improves the detection and characterization of GERD. Conventional catheter-based monitoring systems are uncomfortable and interfere with the normal activity of the patient. To overcome these disadvantages, different wireless esophageal monitoring systems have been proposed. A capsule containing sensors for impedance and pH monitoring with wireless communication capabilities is presented. A low cost miniature microcontroller was utilized for interfacing between the sensors and a wireless transmitter. The microcontroller program allowed efficient management of the electric power provided by a 3-V battery. Magnetic holding is proposed as an alternative to surgical affixation of the monitoring capsule. Permanent neodymium magnets separated by 27 cm successfully held the capsule in a test tube. Experimental results demonstrated that friction force can aid magnetic holding to overcome peristalsis. The proposed design efficiently detected acid and nonacid reflux. More research regarding the holding method and capsule packaging are necessary to optimize the mechanical performance of the proposed design in order to facilitate clinical testing on human subjects.  相似文献

This paper presents an application of a previously developed linear programming-dynamic programming (LP-DP) methodology to the operation of Andong and Imha parallel reservoirs in South Korea. The model allows for multioptimization of power generation and municipal, industrial, and irrigation water use. It is shown that the annual average energy and the annual average water supply generated from the joint operation of the two parallel reservoirs by the LD-DP approach is 15.2 and 1.7% more than the contracted power production and water supply respectively.  相似文献

Precise values of the intrinsic selectivities and yields for the hydrogenation products of methyl linolenate (Ln) and methyl linoleate (L) obtained under carefully controlled conditions using a commercial Ni catalyst are presented and analyzed in detail. The existence of a preferential adsorption of Ln and a significant co-hydrogenation of its double bonds are confirmed as being the dominant features under typical vegetable oil processing conditions. It is shown that the values of the selectivities that are obtained from the classical consecutive reactions network account for the intrinsic selectivity of the catalyst only while hydrogenating feedstocks with moderate to low (<10%) contents of Ln. Yolk and embryonic total lipids were extracted from spotted dogfish eggs at two developmental stages. Total lipids were fractionated into neutral lipids (NL) and polar lipids (PL), and the fatty acid composition of each group was determined. Yolk lipid composition was found to be quantitatively different (NL/PL≊1) from embryo lipid composition (NL/PL≊0.5), for both stages of development. However, individual fatty acid composition did not differ from younger to older eggs for either yolk or embryo. There were significant differences (p<0.05) in major fatty acid groups from yolk and embryonic PL for saturated fatty acids, monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and n−3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) for younger eggs, and for MUFA and n−3 PUFA for older eggs. For NL, only MUFA composition from the oldest eggs showed differences between yolk and embryo. Results are discussed in terms of embryonic needs for highly unsaturated fatty acid (HUFA) biosynthesis, as well as to provide some explanations for the unusually high levels of 20∶4n−6 in both yolk and embryonic neutral lipids and polar lipids.  相似文献
