Using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) we have investigated the shape and size of diglycerol monomyristate (designated as C14G2) nonionic surfactant reverse micelles in aromatic solvent ethylbenzene as a function of surfactant concentration, temperature, and water. When C14G2 is added into ethylbenzene globular type reverse micelles with maximum core diameter ca. 4.5 nm are formed under ambient conditions. The micellar structure (shape and size) did not change with the surfactant concentration. However, an increase in temperature decreased the micellar size due to an increase in the critical packing parameter (cpp). Surfactant becomes more lipophilic upon heating and the micellar curvature tends to become more negative at higher temperature. Addition of a small amount of water caused a significant micellar growth. For instance, incorporation of 0.3% water in the 5% C14G2/ethylbenzene system resulted in the formation of 2.1 time bigger micelles with a small water pool in the micellar core. Besides the micellar shape is modified into an ellipsoidal prolate, whose scenario can be understood in terms of hydration of the surfactant's headgroup. Hydration decreases the cpp and favors micellar growth. An increase of temperature of a water incorporated system decreased the micellar size due to dehydration, which is equivalent to rod-to-sphere type transition.  相似文献

The humidity correction method prescribed in the existing IEC standard is based on experimental data obtained under absolute humidity between 5 and 12 g/m3. A discussion on the humidity correction method is needed for higher absolute humidity regions, which is experienced during summer in Japan, and also throughout the year in tropical countries. The effect of absolute humidity on disruptive discharge voltages of standard sphere air gaps has been studied experimentally for several years under conditions of natural humidity, between 2 and 22 g/m3. In the cases of a.c. and lightning impulse voltage application, it was found that the existing IEC humidity correction method seems to be proper for most of the gap spacings studied under absolute humidity up to 22 g/m3. Europium doped cadmium sulphide (Cd(0.98)Eu(0.2)S) nanostructures were synthesised by chemical co-precipitation method using ethylene glycol (EG) and deionized water (Eu:CdS-1), and isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and deionized water (Eu:CdS-2) as mixed solvents. It has been found that the nanostructure of the europium doped CdS can be controlled by simply varying the mixed solvent system. Powder XRD pattern reveals the formation of hexagonal (wurtzite) and cubic (zinc blende) structure for Eu:CdS-1, and Eu:CdS-2, respectively. The crystallite size of the sample prepared using IPA and deionized water was measured to be 2.64 nm which is much smaller than that of the sample prepared using EG and deionized water as mixed solvent (3.65 nm). Morphology of the materials can also be changed from flower shaped crystals to paddy like structures by varying the mixed solvents. Band gap values of Eu3+ doped CdS nanocrystals synthesized from two different solvents were estimated using UV-reflectance spectra. The size and crystallinity of the samples were confirmed by HRTEM and SAED analysis. A significant change in the PL emission of the CdS nanocrystals was observed for the europium doped CdS which is mainly due to the presence of EU3+ ions which also play a significant role in the energy transfer process. It was also observed that the shift in the emission and efficiency depends on size and shape of the synthesised nanoparticles.  相似文献

Disruption of the skin barrier function caused by epidermal hyper-proliferation, results in the skin becoming dry and showing high transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Gamma linolenic acid (GLA) is reportedly efficacious for treating TEWL and epidermal hyper-proliferation. In this study, to elucidate the effect of GLA-rich oil on skin function, GLA-containing food was given to adults with dry skin or mild atopic dermatitis and skin parameters were evaluated. In the results, we recognized beneficial effects on the TEWL index. The efficacy of GLA was also demonstrated to be statistically significant especially in subjects with pro-inflammatory features. The results suggest that the mechanism of improvement of skin barrier has been associated with possible generation of anti-inflammatory metabolites from GLA. The clinical physician also confirmed that none of the subjects showed any noteworthy side effects. GLA-enriched food appears to be safe and to improve skin barrier function in subjects with dry skin conditions and mild atopic dermatitis.  相似文献

The vinyltrimethoxysilane‐grafted ethylene‐propylene copolymer/trifunctional methoxysilane (EPR‐g‐VTMS/RTMS) composites were prepared via in situ silica sol–gel reactions. Five trifunctional methoxysilane compounds (n‐hexyltrimethoxysilane, n‐decyltrimethoxysilane, n‐tetradecyltrimethoxysilane, n‐octadecyltrimethoxysilane, and phenyltrimethoxysilane) have been selected for this study. The water‐cross‐linked EPR‐g‐VTMS/RTMS composites were characterized by attenuated total reflectance‐Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, gel content, solid‐state 29Si CP/MAS NMR, wide‐angle x‐ray scattering, tensile strength, and field emission scanning electron microscopy measurements. The type of RTMS additive has a substantial influence on the nature of siloxane band networks and eventually the mechanical tensile properties. This finding suggests that the interaction and/or entanglement between the EPR‐g‐VTMS matrix and the substituent of the RTMS additives are crucial for the modifying mechanical properties. Moreover, for the water‐cross‐linked EPR‐g‐VTMS/CnTMS (n = 6, 10, 14, and 18) composites, the joint evidence provided by attenuated total reflectance‐Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 29Si CP/MAS NMR, and wide‐angle x‐ray scattering results suggested the formation of ladder‐type poly(n‐alkyl silsesquioxane)s and the presence of the highly ordered structure with a thickness equal to the length of two n‐alkyl groups in all‐trans conformation. 4S reactor is a sodium-cooled fast reactor developed as a small-decentralized power supply. The name of “4S” in this reactor stands for Super-Safe, Small and Simple, and they show representative features of the reactor.

The purpose of the present work is to evaluate quantitatively the super-safety of 4S reactor, and the safety performance is analyzed with ARGO-3, which is a plant dynamics code of a sodium-cooled fast reactor.

In this evaluation, some events, such as Unprotected Loss of Flow (ULOF) and Unprotected Transient Overpower (UTOP), are selected as typical cases from various transients and accidents. After metrics concerned with safety design is defined for each event, it is evaluated with statistical methods whether each metric satisfies acceptance criteria in a given criteria level.

Result about ULOF is as follows. The coolant temperature in the nominal hottest assembly outlet, “Tc” is selected as metric, and the upper side value of 95% confidential section in Tc is below 900 °C that is acceptance criteria. Also in UTOP, it is shown that the fuel maximum temperature in the nominal hottest assembly, “Tf” satisfies acceptance criteria. This result shows that 4S reactor has margin for safety acceptance criteria.  相似文献

The rapid increase of interest in the field of biohybrid and biomimetic materials that exhibit improved structural and functional properties is attracting more and more researchers from life science, materials science, and nanoscience. Concomitant results offer valuable opportunities for applications that involve disciplines dealing with engineering, biotechnology, medicine and pharmacy, agriculture, nanotechnology, and others. In the current contribution we collect recent illustrative examples of assemblies between materials of biological origin and inorganic solids of different characteristics (texture, structure, and particle size). We introduce here a general overview on strategies for the preparation and conformation of biohybrids, the synergistic effects that determine the final properties of these materials, and their diverse applications, which cover areas as different as tissue engineering, drug delivery systems, biosensing devices, biocatalysis, green nanocomposites, etc.  相似文献

A unidirectional continuous-carbon-fibre-reinforced composite was subjected to stress in the direction perpendicular to the fibre direction. By X-ray diffraction, the stress on the incorporated fibre in the composite under transverse load was monitored, and the effects of the environment (water, heat) on stress transfer in the composite were investigated. The adhesion between the matrix and the fibre was irreversibly destroyed by the water absorption and/or cyclic heating, which is found to bring worse stress transfer to the incorporated fibre. X-ray diffraction is a powerful tool for monitoring the stress transfer and its environmental deterioration behaviour in the composite in situ and non-destructively.  相似文献

Improvements in defect detection and sizing capabilities for non-destructive inspection techniques have been required in order to ensure the reliable operation and life extension of nuclear power plants. For the volumetric inspection, the phased array UT technique has superior capabilities for beam steering and focusing to objective regions, and real-time B-scan imaging without mechanical scanning. In contrast to the conventional UT method, high-speed inspection is realized by the unique feature of the phased array technique. A 256-channel array system has developed for the inspection of weldment of BWR internal components such as core shrouds. The TOFD crack sizing technique also can be applied using this system. For the surface inspection, potential drop techniques and eddy current techniques have been improved, which combined the theoretical analysis. These techniques have the crack sizing capability for surface breaking cracks to which UT method is difficult to apply. This paper provides the recent progress of these phased array and electromagnetic inspection techniques.  相似文献
