Combined use of laparoscopic cholecystectomy and endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERC) and papillotomy (ERCP) in management of cholecysto-choledocholithiasis

In a review of 328 cases the combination of laparoscopic cholecystectomy with specific use of endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (pre- and postoperatively) proved to be a riskless, secure and time-saving procedure. In our opinion this is a minimal invasive method of treatment for patients with cholecysto-/choledocholithiasis.     

Machining of reproducible flaws corresponding to fatigue cracks for fracture mechanics tests of components and welded joints

In connection with the analysis and the development of failure concepts in fracture mechanics for quasistatic loaded components and elastic-plastic behaviour of the material, tests are also carried out with welded and/or complex shaped specimens or structures. Thereby the difficulty arises of generating reproducible flaws in the form of fatigue precracks in definite positions in the components, respectively in the welded joint. It is reported exemplarily about experiments on different CT25 and CCT specimens and on a pressure vessel which contained a fatigue pre-crack, a 0.2 mm saw cut or notches with notch root radius ≤ ≥ 0.1 mm as flaws. The comparison of the results with regard to J-integral at initiation of stable crack, J_i, and J_R curves shows that under certain conditions the 0.2 mm saw cut (notch root radius ≤ ≤ 0.02 mm) is a useful alternative, if reproducible generation of a fatigue pre-crack will not be successful or too expensive. The tests were carried out on StE 460 and on a welded joint of this steel at 25 ± 2°C.

Es werden die experimentellen und numerischen Ergebnisse dargelegt, um die gesamte Spannungs-Dehnungs-Kurve des Zugversuches mit sechs Kennwerten zu beschreiben. Dies sind: Elastizitätsmodul, Streckgrenze, Fließdehnung, Zugfestigkeit, Gleichmaßdehnung und Verfestigungsmodul. Dadurch werden auch im überelastischen Bereich numerische Beziehungen möglich zwischen: Verformungen und Spannungen, Dehngrenzen, Tangenten-Modulen und Arbeitsvermögen. Die Beziehungen erweitern die Ermittlung von Last- und Eigenspannungen, und die Berechnungen beim plastischen Umformen, beim Traglastverfahren und beim Messen von Kerbspannungen.     

The distribution of SMN protein complex in human fetal tissues and its alteration in spinal muscular atrophy

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a common autosomal recessive neuromuscular disorder characterized by degeneration of motor neurons of the spinal cord and muscular atrophy. SMA is caused by alterations to the survival of motor neuron (SMN) gene, the function of which has hitherto been unclear. Here, we present immunoblot analyses showing that normal SMN protein expression undergoes a marked decay in the postnatal period compared with fetal development. Morphological and immunohistochemical analyses of the SMN protein in human fetal tissues showed a general distribution in the cytoplasm, except in muscle cells, where SMN protein was immunolocalized to large cytoplasmic dot-like structures and was tightly associated with membrane-free heavy sedimenting complexes. These cytoplasmic structures were similar in size to gem. The SMN protein was markedly deficient in tissues derived from type I SMA fetuses, including skeletal muscles and, as previously shown, spinal cord. While our data do not help decide whether SMA results from impaired SMN expression in spinal cord, skeletal muscle or both, they suggest a requirement for SMN protein during embryo-fetal development.     

Effects of the International Temperature Scale of 1990 (ITS-90) on CIE Documentary Standards for Radiometry,Photometry, and Colorimetry

The differences between ITS-90 and IPTS-68 above 1235 K are described. It is shown that none of the following CIE definitions or recommendations require revision because of the introduction of the ITS-90: International Lighting Vocabulary definitions; CIE Standard Illuminants A, D₆₅, other illuminants; and sources for realizing CIE Illuminants. The effect of the ITS-90 on previously calibrated sources for realizing CIE illuminants is negligibly small.²
