Fluidized bed combustion is one of the advantageous technologies for coal and/or incineration firing especially with respect to the environmental protection of emissions, such as NOx/SOx. Bed material movement in such a fluidized bed has a prime importance in the heat transfer process. Thus, quantitative measurement of the bed material movement and the void fraction are indispensable for better understanding of the fluidized bed. In this investigation, neutron radiography is applied to visualize the bed material movement in a simulated fluidized bed heat exchanger installed with vertical tubes. Bubble behavior and void fraction profile are obtained by the image processing technique. Bubble movement is highly restrained by these vertical tubes, so that the bubbles rise up along the tube. The bubble diameter is well correlated by the modified Mori and Wen's correlation taking into account the pitch of the tube arrangement. The bubble rise velocity and void fraction are well correlated by applying the drift‐flux model. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. COVID-19 is a recently emerged viral infection worldwide. SARS-CoV-2, the causative virus, is believed to have emerged from bat coronaviruses, probably through host conversion. The bat coronavirus which has the highest gene homology to SARS-CoV-2 specifically infects deep forest bats in China whose habitat extends through the Middle East to Southern Europe. Host conversion might have occurred due to the deforestation by humans exposing wild bats to the environment they had never encountered before. SARS-CoV-2 infects cells through two mechanisms: through its receptor ACE2 with the help of enzyme TMPRSS and through membrane fusion with the help of elastases in the inflammatory condition. Obesity, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and pulmonary diseases cause poor prognosis of COVID-19. Aging is another factor promoting poor prognosis. These diseases and aging cause low-level and persistent inflammation in humans, which can promote poor prognosis of COVID-19. Psoriasis and atopic dermatitis are the major inflammatory skin diseases. These inflammatory skin conditions, however, do not seem to cause poor prognosis for COVID-19 based on the epidemiological data accumulated so far. These mechanisms need to be elucidated.  相似文献

We report that tumor necrosis factor (TNF) alpha induced a strong antitumor immune reaction when it was produced in arteries leading to tumors by gene transfer in vivo. We used a mouse model carrying a sarcoma-180 tumor in the right footpad and injected the fusogenic liposomes encapsulating the human TNF-alpha gene into the right femoral artery. Under this condition, human TNF-alpha was detected only in the artery leading to the tumor and in the tumor. There was a significant regression in tumor growth when the TNF-alpha gene was delivered into the right femoral artery, with 4 of 11 mice completely cured. No regression was observed when the TNF-alpha gene was delivered into the left femoral artery or into the tumor or when the luciferase gene was administered. Tumor regression was inhibited by the injection of anti-TNF-alpha, anti-CD4, or anti-CD8 monoclonal antibody, and CD8+ T cells accumulated in the tumors of TNF-alpha-treated mice. These results suggest that TNF-alpha expressed locally in the arteries leading to tumors efficiently suppresses tumor growth through reinforcement of an antitumor immune reaction. The significance of this phenomenon for cancer gene therapy was discussed.  相似文献

Npt2 encodes a renal-specific, brush-border membrane Na+-phosphate (Pi) cotransporter that is expressed in the proximal tubule where the bulk of filtered Pi is reabsorbed. Mice deficient in the Npt2 gene were generated by targeted mutagenesis to define the role of Npt2 in the overall maintenance of Pi homeostasis, determine its impact on skeletal development, and clarify its relationship to autosomal disorders of renal Pi reabsorption in humans. Homozygous mutants (Npt2(-/-)) exhibit increased urinary Pi excretion, hypophosphatemia, an appropriate elevation in the serum concentration of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D with attendant hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria and decreased serum parathyroid hormone levels, and increased serum alkaline phosphatase activity. These biochemical features are typical of patients with hereditary hypophosphatemic rickets with hypercalciuria (HHRH), a Mendelian disorder of renal Pi reabsorption. However, unlike HHRH patients, Npt2(-/-) mice do not have rickets or osteomalacia. At weaning, Npt2(-/-) mice have poorly developed trabecular bone and retarded secondary ossification, but, with increasing age, there is a dramatic reversal and eventual overcompensation of the skeletal phenotype. Our findings demonstrate that Npt2 is a major regulator of Pi homeostasis and necessary for normal skeletal development.  相似文献

Thymic lymphoma (TL) was observed in different stages of development in 46% of male mice (23/50) following exposure to an acute challenge dose of 2 Gy 60Co gamma-rays. With an adapting dose of 1 cGy 24 h prior to the challenge dose of 2 Gy, similar growth of TL was seen in 42.5% of mice (17/40). TL was not found in unirradiated control mice (0/50) or in the group treated with 1 cGy (0/50). Multiple adapting doses for 5 or 10 consecutive days induced TL in 8/50 and 9/50 mice, respectively (17% in average). When multiple adapting doses were followed by the challenge dose, the yield of TL was much lower, 16% (8/50) and 30% (15/50), respectively. By 15, 30, 60, 90, and 120 days after exposure with 3 Gy of 60Co gamma-rays, TL developed in 30, 70, 70, 80 and 85% of the female mice, respectively. When mice were conditioned with an adapting dose of 1 cGy 24 h prior to the challenge dose, TL was not found 15 days post-irradiation, while about a 25% reduction in the occurrence of TL was noticed at all other intervals. The results suggested that an adapting dose could play a role in bringing about a change in terms of delay and inhibition of the acute effects of radiation, i.e., the onset of TL in mice.  相似文献

We have demonstrated a synthetic procedure for nano-sized NaNbO3 powder and its thin films using a carbon-free precursor prepared by the reaction of H2O2 with sodium and niobium alkoxides. A combination of X-ray powder diffraction, Raman spectra, and thermal gravity and differential thermal analysis, carbon analysis, fourier transform infrared spectra, transmission electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy was used to characterize the resulting materials and precursor compounds. Results show that this procedure demonstrates the major advantages of low-temperature synthesis (∼400°C) and low weight loss during transformation into NaNbO3 because of its carbon-free nature, which also provides the option of preparing nano-sized particles and dense, crack-free NaNbO3 thin films.  相似文献

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Close observation and evaluation of the function of the transposed stomach after esophagectomy is essential. The present study uses the sulfamethizole capsule meal test to evaluate differences in gastric emptying between the anterior and posterior mediastinal approaches in patients undergoing esophagectomy. METHODOLOGY: Thirty-eight patients who underwent the esophagectomy and esophagogastrostomy for esophageal cancer were randomly divided into 2 groups: Group 1: anterior mediastinal approach, and Group 2: posterior mediastinal approach. Gastric emptying was studied using the sulfamethizole capsule meal test. Patients received sulfamethizole food capsules, 65 g of bread, and 150 ml of water. Plasma sulfamethizole levels were determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). RESULTS: Gastric emptying in both groups was significantly accelerated compared to healthy volunteers. Gastric emptying did not differ significantly between groups 1 and 2. CONCLUSIONS: The present data show that the sulfamethizole capsule meal test is an effective means of evaluating the emptying of the transposed stomach. Furthermore, when the stomach is used as an esophageal substitute following esophagectomy, gastric emptying does not differ according to the access route.  相似文献

The nucleotide sequence of a 36.2-kb distal region containing the right telomere of chromosome VI was determined. Both strands of DNA cloned into cosmid clone 9965 and plasmid clone pEL174P2 were sequenced with an average redundancy of 7.9 per base pair, by both dye primer and dye terminator cycle sequencing methods. The G+C content of the sequence was found to be 37.9%. Eighteen open reading frames (ORFs) longer than 100 amino acids were detected. Four of these ORFs (9965orfR017, 9965orfF016, 9965orfR009 and 9965orfF003) were found to encode previously identified genes (YMR31, PRE4, NIN1 and HXK1, respectively). Six ORFs (9965orfR013, 9965orfF018, 9965orfF006, 9965orfR014, 9965orfF013 and 9965orfR020) were found to be homologous to hypothetical 121.4-kDa protein in the BCK 5' region, Bacillus subtilis DnaJ protein, hypothetical Trp-Asp repeats containing protein in DBP3-MRPL27, putative mitochondrial carrier YBR291C protein, Salmonella typhimurium nicotinate-nucleotide pyrophosphorylase, and Escherichia coli cystathionine beta-lyase, respectively. The putative proteins encoded by 9965orfF018, 9965orfR014 and 9965orfR020 were found to be, respectively, a new member of the family of DnaJ-like proteins, the mitochondrial carrier protein and cystathionine lyase.  相似文献
