BACKGROUND: The incidence of intrathyroidal parathyroid glands remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence in a series of patients with hyperparathyroidism. METHODS: Three hundred nine patients underwent parathyroidectomy. Patients were divided into two groups: uniglandular disease versus hyperplasia. RESULTS: Eighteen of 309 patients (6%) had abnormal intrathyroidal parathyroid glands. The incidence was 3% (7 of 222) in patients with uniglandular disease versus 15% (11 of 73) in those with hyperplasia. With a mean follow-up of 54 months, 12 patients are eucalcemic, 5 have persistent hypocalcemia, and 1 has recurrent hypercalcemia. There were no recurrent laryngeal nerve injuries. CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest that an intrathyroidal adenoma is an uncommon cause of failure, whereas abnormal intrathyroidal parathyroid tissue may be a more common cause of failure in patients with hyperplasia. 相似文献

Due to the advances in in-line inspection technology it is now possible to obtain an early in-line prediction of yield. This paper introduces and compares two new in-line yield prediction methodologies: (1) multilayer critical area method and (2) defect-type-size kill-ratio method. These methods are more accurate than the past and other current approaches used in the semiconductor industry. The first method uses the design layout information along with the in-line defect data, whereas the second method uses the defect and yield data to empirically derive the kill-ratios. We demonstrate our methodologies using data collected in a real wafer fabrication facility at the polysilicon gate (Poly), and the first and second interconnect (Metal 1 and Metal 2) post etch inspection layers. In rat selectively bred for different amygdala kindling rates (Fast vs. Slow), comorbid differences in learning were detected. Here, performance was tested in a delayed alternation task before, during, and after kindling. Although similar reference memory was evident, Fast rats showed working memory deficits with increasing delays between information and choice trials. Further, seizures shortly before learning disrupted both reference and working memory in Fast, but not Slow, rats. Weeks after kindling, progressive delays further disrupted Fast rats, but only longer delays disrupted Slow rats. Clearly relevant to individual differences in human epilepsy, a temporal lobe, seizure-prone genetic background in rats provides poorer original learning and easier disruption of new learning by recent and past seizures than a seizure-resistant background. Investigated the effects of perceived purpose for rating and training type on the following dependent variables: accuracy, leniency/severity, and illusory halo. The purpose factor comprised 3 levels: a hiring purpose, a feedback purpose, and a research-only purpose. The training factor comprised 4 levels: rater error (RE) training, frame-of-reference (FOR) training, the combination of both methods, and no training. With both factors crossed, 164 undergraduates were randomly assigned to 1 of 12 conditions and viewed videotapes of lectures given by bogus graduate assistants. Heterogeneity of variance made it necessary to apply a conservative analytical strategy. Training significantly affected 2 measures of accuracy and halo such that a training condition that contained an FOR component did better than RE or no training. The conservativeness of the conservative analytic strategy made effects for the purpose factor on correlation accuracy, leniency/severity, and halo only tentative; it dissipated the 1 interaction effect of the 2 factors on distance accuracy. An important phase within the overall residential land development process is preliminary project planning, which is a highly coordinated effort involving a number of decisions that are made by a variety of individuals. One critical decision faced by the project owner and the development team, during the preliminary planning phase, is the initial selection of the most appropriate site for a proposed conceptual development plan. The scope of this paper deals with (1) formulating a model for the preliminary planning phase of residential site selection; and (2) developing an associated decision support system that can assist the decision makers during this phase of the project. A series of randomly branched copolymers of styrene and divinylbenzene were prepared using a benzoyl peroxide-initiated free-radical bulk polymerization at 78°C. DVB contents were varied from 0.01% to 2%. Two samples were polymerized with 0.4% DVB to different conversions: series 9A at 6% conversion and series 9B at 15% conversion (just short of the gelation point). Both samples were fractionated and the fractions characterized by ultracentrifugation, light scattering, osmometry, viscometry, and gel permeation chromatography. The data indicated that the fractions were not of narrow MWD and that the breadth of the MWD of the fractions from series 9B were greater than those of 9A. GPC calibration curves of M, [η], and M [η] were generated for both 9A and 9B fractions by employing curve-fitting techniques to the GPC data. For all of the fractions 9B, the molecular weight calibration provided accurate values of M?z, M?w, and M?n, suggesting that no serious peak spreading had occurred in the GPC experiments. The universal calibration parameter M[η] for the 9A fractions agreed with that of linear polystyrene, while that of the high-conversion series 9B did not. It will be shown in a later paper that series 9B is highly branched, while 9A is lightly branched. Consequently, it is recommended that any GPC analysis of branching units make an allowance for the deviation of highly branched polymers from the linear M[η] calibration curve. 相似文献
