When a layer of volatile liquid is exposed to a shear flow of inert gas, thermal patterns, in the form of interfacial ripples and bulk plumes, are created by the combined action of evaporative, shear-driven and surface-tension-driven instabilities. The topology of the interfacial thermal patterns is mainly influenced by the geometry of the evaporating surface, the thickness of the evaporating layer, the intensity of the shear flow and by the physic-chemical properties of the working fluid. In this paper, by means of numerical simulations, we focused our attention on the dynamics of the interfacial thermal patterns for different working fluids and thicknesses of the volatile liquid layer. This study has been performed in the frame of the ESA sponsored Space Program on heat and mass transfer CIMEX-1. The choice of the fluids—ethyl alcohol and FC72 (n-perfluorohexane)—the reference values for the inert gas flow rate, the thickness of the liquid layer as well as the geometrical features of the computational domain correspond exactly to the ones foreseen for the CIMEX-1 experiment. However, the main conclusions can be considered of more general validity.  相似文献

This paper proposes the Meissner-Ochsenfeld effect as a possible tool for quality control of type II superconductors (SC). Visual or optical inspection of the levitation process allows rough determination of the anisotropy of thermal conductivity and of the pinning strength of type II SC material, in a materials quality control. An assembly of permanent (e.g. NdFeB) or electromagnets and a flat cryostat allowing visual or optical inspection would be required. The method is demonstrated by numerically simulating the field cooling process of a superconducting cylindrical pellet and of a coated conductor.  相似文献

Transparent hydrogenated amorphous silicon nitride (SiNx:H) coatings were prepared by dual-mode microwave-radio-frequency plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition. By controlling the effects of plasma density and ion energy on the film growth, it was possible to modify the microstructure of the coatings and hence the refractive index n. Using this method, we were able to vary n from 1.6 to 2.0, at 550 nm, by adjusting the power levels of the radio-frequency and microwave components while keeping the gas composition (SiH4, N2) and pressure constant. An inhomogeneous bandpass filter with a controlled refractive-index depth profile was fabricated, and its optical performance was compared with that of its multilayer counterpart. Besides the attractive optical features of such single-material rugate filters, we found that the mechanical resistance of inhomogeneous films is superior to that of multilayer systems.  相似文献

We describe an optical detection scheme that reduces laser excess noise in measurements of small optical phase shifts. The scheme improves the sensitivity of the balanced differential detection. Analysis of the scheme and comparison with the conventional detection are presented. The scheme is applied in electro-optic probing of electrical signals in integrated circuits, where the excess laser noise is reduced by approximately 20 dB.  相似文献

Some aspects of the ESA space program EMERALD are presented. A problem of the film type condensation on curvilinear fin is considered with taking into account the essential influence of the capillary forces and non uniform temperature of the fin. Disjoining pressure effect on condensate film flow is studied numerically, because of very thin film of condensate on the fin tip. Value of the groove flooding depth changes significantly the condensate outflow from the condenser. Calculations for water condensation predict a very high value of the heat transfer coefficient, more than 50 kW/m2K, on a quite important part of the surface area and confirm the idea of proposed condenser and Double Capillary Pumped Loop.  相似文献

The exchange of cargo capacities is a well established approach in logistics. However, only few logistics marketplaces are able to take into consideration synergies that can be generated by combining different transportation routes of different logistics carrierps. In order to exploit these synergies, we designed and implemented the combinatorial exchange mechanism ComEx for the intra-enterprise exchange of delivery orders in a logistics company organized in a profit center structure. Each profit center is able to release delivery orders to an adjacent profit center if the geographic locations of the customers allow for a reduced-cost delivery by the adjacent profit center. We demonstrate that by using the ComEx mechanism, the total cost of transportation of our logistics company can be reduced by up to 14%. Since our iterative auction mechanism is very complex and therefore resource-intensive, we reduce the complexity by applying a convex hull approach combined with a distance-based cost estimator.

The nonlinear dynamics of a high-power femtosecond singular pulse in Kerr media are analyzed numerically upon optically induced ionization. We examine the plasma inertia impact to stable propagation of optical vortices. Multifoci behavior of vortices in medium are revealed. Next we numerically demonstrate that inertial character of plasma formation provides a quasi-soliton regime of vortex propagation resistant to symmetry-breaking perturbation.  相似文献

Emulsifier‐free batch emulsion polymerization of n‐butyl acrylate and its semi‐batch copolymerization with 2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5‐octafluoropentyl acrylate and 2,2,3,4,4,4‐hexafluorobutyl acrylate both mediated by poly(acrylic acid) containing the trithiocarbonate group in the chain was employed to produce amphiphilic triblock copolymers. The polymerization‐induced self‐assembly of these copolymers in aqueous media gave rise to spherical core–shell particles. Irrespective of the experimental conditions, the polymeric product was characterized by a bimodal molecular weight distribution. The apparent violation of the reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer polymerization mechanism may be attributed to restricted accessibility of the trithiocarbonate group in the self‐assembled block copolymers for propagating radicals that enter into the particle. Mean‐field theoretical arguments were employed to explain the exclusively spherical morphology of the particles observed in the experiment. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献
