Various countries including Japan issued the complete removal of brain and spinal cord (SC) tissues from meat products due to BSE risk factor. In this study using commercially available Ridascreen® risk material test kit, we tried to evaluate the efficiency of removing specific risk material (SRM) from meat products. Brain and SC tissues were added to grind meats in different concentrations and respective absorption values were obtained using Ridascreen® test kit. The kit detected both brain and SC at 0.1%, below its claimed sensitivity level, for brain and SC combined. Thus, using this commercial test kit, we tested cross-section of samples sold in Obihiro area, Japan. In the test standard controls 0, 0.2%, 1% and 2% were practiced. All most all the tested samples absorption values near to standard 0, and it is concluded that all the samples that we tested were absence or at a very minimal levels of SRM.  相似文献

Rapid screening tests in medical diagnostic and environmental analysis are often based on oligonucleotide biochips. In this paper, we studied the stability of functionalized mesoporous silicon supports in the solid-phase synthesis of oligonucleotides, exploiting several chemical procedures. A 19-mer mixed sequence has been successfully synthesized on aminosilane-modified porous silicon photonic structures. The process and the materials have been characterized by optical reflectivity, atomic force microscopy and high-performance liquid chromatography.  相似文献

This work concerns the degradation of the nutritional compounds glucoraphanin (GR) and vitamin C (Vc), and the inactivation of the enzyme myrosinase (MYR) in broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica) during drying with air temperatures in the range of 30–60 °C. Dynamic optimization is applied to find the optimized temperature trajectories that minimize degradation and inactivation. Simulation and experimental results for optimized temperature trajectories are compared to constant inlet air temperature drying at 40 and 50 °C. The results show that with the optimized temperature trajectories the retention of GR, MYR and Vc improved significantly. Moreover, the experiments show that degradation and inactivation during drying is slower than expected from kinetic studies. The deviation is explained from the difference in the physical state of the samples used in the drying experiments, i.e. original plant tissue versus the grounded state of the plant tissue used in the experiments for the kinetic studies. The results indicate that besides temperature and moisture content the physical state is also an important aspect in the degradation of nutritional compounds and enzymes.  相似文献

Langmuir probes are used in nuclear fusion experiments to derive the electronic temperature of a high temperature ionised gas. For this purpose, the current I flowing through the probe at varying applied potentials V is measured. The shape of the resulting V-I characteristic is exponential, and depends upon the electronic temperature. Traditionally, fitting procedures are used to derive the temperature, but the amount of computation required is high as the measurement is repeated many times during the experiment. In this paper the use of neural networks to derive the electronic temperature from Langmuir probe data is investigated. Neural networks proved to be comparable with traditional methods in the accuracy of the reconstruction, though requiring less computational resources.  相似文献

Ammonia, a well-known by-product of chemical, fertiliser and metallurgy industries, is also the most refractory product of nitrogen-containing compound oxidation. Consequently, NH4+ is a key component of waste disposal of conventional processes like anaerobic digestion or nitrification/denitrification. Catalytic wet air oxidation (CWAO) process, able to eliminate organic matter with non toxic by-product formation, was investigated for ammonium ions removal from wastewater. Oxidation of aniline and of ammonia were carried out on mono- and bimetallic noble metal catalysts (Pt, Ru, Pd, etc.) prepared by impregnation and supported on cerium oxides. In liquid phase, at high temperature (150–250 °C) and high pressure of oxygen (20 bar), a Ru/CeO2 catalyst is able to achieve the elimination of refractory nitrogenous organic products like aniline. The greatest interest of CWAO compared to the classical biological one, is that the selectivity towards molecular nitrogen is much higher (>90%). Indeed, in this process, ammonium ions give essentially N2, via hydroxylamine and below 200 °C. At higher temperatures the rate of conversion is extremely high but nitrite and nitrate ions appear in the effluent. On a RuPd/CeO2 catalyst, the optimal temperature for ammonia conversion is then 200 °C. In these conditions, the N2 selectivity is up to 90%.  相似文献

This study was carried out to investigate the hypolipidemic and hypoglycemic potential of raw, boiled, and sprouted mung beans in rats. Oven dried mung bean powders; raw, sprouted, and boiled were included at 30% level in the diet of seven weeks old male Wistar rats maintained for 5 weeks on high (0.5%) cholesterol diet in comparison with control diet. Low serum glucose and triglyceride concentrations (p < .05) in raw and processed mung bean diets fed rats were supported by low serum insulin level in both raw mung bean diet and boiled mung bean diet fed rats. Hypoglycemic effect in sprouted mung bean fed rats was supported by higher α‐amylase inhibitory activity and α‐glucosidase inhibitory activity of sprouted mung beans. Increase in serum non‐HDL cholesterol concentration and decrease in HDL cholesterol concentration caused by high cholesterol diet were modulated (p < .05) by both boiled and sprouted mung bean diets.

Practical applications

Mung bean is a green legume rich in protein, fiber, antioxidants, and phytonutrients. Hypocholesterolemic and hypoglycemic potential of raw mung beans have been shown previously. It is well known that cooking and processing modulate nutritional and biochemical parameters of foods. However, very limited information is available on the effect of processing on functional properties of legumes. Results of this study showed that boiling and sprouting improved the soluble fiber content and hypocholesterolemic potential of mung beans. Thus, the processed mung beans may be more suitable for developing food supplements for patients with hypercholesterolemia.  相似文献

The design of bioactive scaffold materials able to guide cellular processes involved in new-tissue genesis is key determinant in bone tissue engineering. The aim of this study was the design and characterization of novel multi-phase biomaterials to be processed for the fabrication of 3D porous scaffolds able to provide a temporary biocompatible substrate for mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) adhesion, proliferation and osteogenic differentiation. The biomaterials were prepared by blending poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) with thermoplastic zein (TZ), a thermoplastic material obtained by de novo thermoplasticization of zein. Furthermore, to bioactivate the scaffolds, microparticles of osteoconductive hydroxyapatite (HA) were dispersed within the organic phases. Results demonstrated that materials and formulations strongly affected the micro-structural properties and hydrophilicity of the scaffolds and, therefore, had a pivotal role in guiding cell/scaffold interaction. In particular, if compared to neat PCL, PCL–HA composite and PCL/TZ blend, the three-phase PCL/TZ–HA showed improved MSCs adhesion, proliferation and osteogenic differentiation capability, thus demonstrating potential for bone regeneration.  相似文献

α-Amylase is an endoenzyme that catalyses the hydrolysis of internal α-l,4 glycosidic linkages in polysaccharides to produce maltose, maltotriose, and α-limit dextrins. It is widely used in the laboratorial and industrial workflow for several applications. There are several methods utilizing different techniques and substrates to assess α-amylase activity, among which the spectroscopic methods have found widespread applicability due to their ease of use and cost-effectiveness. Depending upon the reaction principle, these assays are classified into four groups: reducing sugar, enzymatic, chromogenic, and amyloclastic methods. Despite the presence of numerous methods, there is no general reliable method to assess α-amylase activity. Each method is shown to have its own merits and demerits. Many improvements have been made to make the available methods more accurate, reliable, and easy. This communication briefly discusses the basic reaction mechanisms and critically reviews the advantages and shortcomings associated with each method. The formation of a disulfide bond between adjacent cysteineresidues is accompanied by the formation of a tight turn ofthe protein backbone. In nearly 90% of the structures analyzeda type VIII turn was found. The peptide bond between the twocysteines is in a distorted trans conformation, the omega torsionangle ranges from 159 to –133°, with an average valueof 171°. The constrained nature of the vicinal disulfideturn and the pronounced difference observed between the oxidizedand reduced states, suggests that vicinal disulfides may beemployed as a ‘redox-activated’ conformational switch.
