A novel procedure for biopolymer surface nanostructuring with defined surface roughness and pattern dimension is presented. The surface properties of sputtered platinum layers on the biocompatible polymer poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) are presented. The influence of thermal treatment on surface morphology and electrical resistance and Pt distribution in ca. 100 nm of altered surface is described. The thickness, roughness and morphology of Pt structures were determined by atomic force microscopy. Surface sheet resistance was studied by a two-point technique. It was the sequence of Pt layer sputtering followed by thermal treatment that dramatically changed the structure of the PLLA’s surface. Depending on the Pt thickness, the ripple-like and worm-like patterns appeared on the surface for thinner and thicker Pt layers, respectively. Electrokinetic analysis confirmed the Pt coverage of PLLA and the slightly different behaviour of non-annealed and annealed surfaces. The amount and distribution of platinum on the PLLA is significantly altered by thermal annealing.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of carbon fiber (CF) and electron‐beam (EB) radiation on high‐temperature mechanical properties of ethylene‐vinyl acetate (EVA). Polymer composites were prepared by mixing on a two‐roll mill. After compression molding, the samples were irradiated between 60 and 180 kGy, and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) was used to characterize physical properties. The effects of filler content and radiation level on the mechanical properties of EVA/CF were evaluated. The shear stress and modulus were observed to increase with increasing of the filler level. However, there was a dramatic decrease in creep compliance. It was also shown that introduction of irradiation on EVA composite increases the shear stress and the real part of the dynamic shear modulus G' due to the increase in molecular weight and cross‐linking of the polymer after irradiation. Extremely thin gold layers were sputter deposited on glass and silicon substrates, and their thickness and morphology were studied by Rutherford backscattering (RBS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) methods. The deposited layers change from discontinuous to continuous ones for longer deposition times. While the deposition rate on the silicon substrate is constant, nearly independent on the layer thickness, the rate on the glass substrate increases with increasing layer thickness. The observed dependence can be explained by a simple kinetic model, taking into account different sticking probabilities of gold atoms on a bare glass substrate and regions with gold coverage. Detailed analysis of the shape of the RBS gold signal shows that in the initial stages of the deposition, the gold layers on the glass substrate consist of gold islands with significantly different thicknesses. These findings were confirmed by AFM measurements, too. Gold coverage of the silicon substrate is rather homogeneous, consisting of tiny gold grains, but a pronounced worm-like structure is formed for the layer thickness at electrical continuity threshold. On the glass substrate, the gold clusters of different sizes are clearly observed. For later deposition stages, a clear tendency of the gold atoms to aggregate into larger clusters of approximately the same size is observed. At later deposition stages, gold clusters of up to 100 nm in diameter are formed.  相似文献

Polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites were prepared by melt intercalation in an intermeshing corotating twin‐screw extruder. The effect of molecular weight of PP‐MA (maleic anhydride‐ modified polypropylene) on clay dispersion and mechanical properties of nanocomposites was investigated. After injection molding, the tensile properties and impact strength were measured. The best overall mechanical properties were found for composites containing PP‐MA having the highest molecular weight. The basal spacing of clay in the composites was measured by X‐ray diffraction (XRD). Nanoscale morphology of the samples was observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The crystallization kinetics was measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and optical microscopy at a fixed crystallization temperature. Increasing the clay content in PP‐ MA330k/clay, a well‐dispersed two‐component system, caused the impact strength to decrease while the crystallization kinetics and the spherulite size remained almost the same. On the other hand, PP/PP‐MA330k/clay, an intercalated three‐component system containing some dispersed clay as well as the clay tactoids, showed a much smaller size of spherulites and a slight increase in impact strength with increasing the clay content. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the first heterologous production of a fungal rutinosidase (6‐O‐α‐L ‐rhamnopyranosyl‐β‐D ‐glucopyranosidase) in Pichia pastoris. The recombinant rutinosidase was purified from the culture medium to apparent homogeneity and biochemically characterized. The enzyme reacts with rutin and cleaves the glycosidic linkage between the disaccharide rutinose and the aglycone. Furthermore, it exhibits high transglycosylation activity, transferring rutinose from rutin as a glycosyl donor onto various alcohols and phenols. The utility of the recombinant rutinosidase was demonstrated by its use for the synthesis of a broad spectrum of rutinosides of primary (saturated and unsaturated), secondary, acyclic and phenolic alcohols as well as for the preparation of free rutinose. Moreover, the α‐L ‐rhamnosidase‐catalyzed synthesis of a chromogenic substrate for a rutinosidase assay – para‐nitrophenyl β‐rutinoside – is described.

This work is devoted to numerical simulations of an arbitrary shaped ice particle melting inside water under the influence of natural convection. Specifically, four different shapes of the ice particle have been studied: sphere, cylinder, cross shaped cylinder, and irregular sphere with radial bumps on its surface. A 2D axisymmetric particle‐resolved numerical model has been employed on a fixed grid to study the detailed melting dynamics of an ice particle. The solid‐liquid interface is treated as a porous medium characterized by the permeability coefficient which is used to damp the velocity values inside the interface. The model results have been compared with an existing experimental results produced by A. Shukla et al. (Metal Mater Trans B. 2011; 42(1):224–235). Very good agreement between our predictions and experimental data have been achieved. Based on the analysis of numerical simulation results, melting process is found to advance through two distinct regimes, namely, establishment of the natural convection and active melting of ice particle exhibiting substantial amount of fluid‐particle interactions. A set of dimensionless parameters have been identified to distinguish between regimes. Finally, we developed a semi‐empirical to predict the melting of any arbitrary shaped ice particle and validated it against the particle‐resolved numerical simulation and experimental results. The comparison showed good agreement. Finally, the presented semi‐empirical model can be used as sub‐grid model in Euler‐Lagrange based numerical models to study the phase change phenomena in particulate flow systems. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 3158–3176, 2017  相似文献

Antibacterial nylon 6 (PA6) nanofibers have been prepared in one-step procedure using Nanospider technology. Chlorhexidine (CHX), 1-dodecyltrimethylamonium bromide (DTAB) and benzyltrimethylamonium bromide (BTAB) have been used as antibacterial agents. Samples were characterized by a series of analytical and testing methods to investigate the surface chemistry, zeta potential, structure, morphology, phase composition, mechanical properties and antibacterial activity. Experimental characterization has been combined with molecular modeling to analyze the interaction of nanofibers with modifying molecules for better understanding the effect of nanofibers modification on their properties. Antibacterial modification of PA6 led to significant changes of zeta potential (from -31 mV for PA 6 up to -49 mV for PA6/BTAB), changes in phase composition (decrease of alpha phase content and increase of gamma phase content for PA6/BTAB and PA6/CHX) and to significant increase of fiber diameter for PA6/BTAB. Antibacterial modification resulted in the straightening of nanofibers and to higher permeability of nanofiber textile for all investigated samples. Tensile tests showed the the increase of Young modulus for all the investigated samples. All the modified samples: PA6/DTAB, PA6/BTAB and PA6/CHX exhibit good antibacterial activity.  相似文献

The extraction of rare earths (lanthanides, Y, Sc) by voluminous bis-1,2-dicarbollylcobaltate anions disolved in nitrobenzene and in a nitrobenzene - carbon tetrachloride mixture has been investigated and the exchange extraction constants for both solvents, individual extraction constants anddG for ion transfer across the water - nitrobenzene phase boundary has been determined. Extraction decreases with increasing atomic number of the lanthanide.

The influence of several polyoxonium compounds on the distribution ratios and the extraction selectivity has been investigated. In the extraction systems with bis-1,2-dicarbollylcobaltate - 18-crown-6 in nitrobenzene, synergism was found for the light lanthanides but antagonism was observed for the heavy ones. We collected several samples of fresh snow from the areas of southern New Mexico and western Texas. Samples were analyzed to determine graphitic carbon content of snow in rural and urban areas and to compare these present values with those obtained from deep ice core samples several thousand years old. To model the optical properties of snow grains containing carbon we used several different versions of effective medium approximations. Calculations are compared with microwave analog measurements to determine which of these approximations can reasonably well predict the properties of mixtures such as snow and carbon. Suggestions regarding which of the effective medium approximations that should not be used are presented.  相似文献
