In this paper, we present the theoretical investigation and study of reflectance properties in a 1D ternary annular photonic crystal (TAPC) containing a semiconductor and a high-temperature superconductor. The proposed structure consists of alternate layers of indium nitride (InN), Bi2Sr2CaCu3O8 (BSCCO), and air placed in free space. A reflectance spectrum of the TAPC is obtained by employing the transfer matrix method (TMM) in the cylindrical waves for both transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) polarized waves. From the study of reflectance spectra, it is observed that the reflection band of the annular photonic crystal depends on the azimuthal mode number m in addition to other parameters. It is found that for azimuthal mode number m = 0, the width of the reflection band of the annular photonic crystal is the same as that of a planar photonic crystal (PPC). When the azimuthal mode number increases, the width of the reflection band increases at higher m values (m >5) for TE waves. In the case of the TM wave, it is interesting to observe that a superpolariton gap is created for a higher value of the azimuthal number (m >0). Further, we see the effect of the starting radius (ρ 0) on the reflection band of the TAPC structure at the given m number for both TE- and TM-polarized waves. Finally, the effect of temperature on the reflectance spectra for both TE and TM waves at the given ρ 0 and azimuthal mode has been studied.  相似文献

Immature human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV‐1) is approximately spherical, but is constructed from a hexagonal lattice of the Gag protein. As a hexagonal lattice is necessarily flat, the local symmetry cannot be maintained throughout the structure. This geometrical frustration presumably results in bending stress. In natural particles, the stress is relieved by incorporation of packing defects, but the magnitude of this stress and its significance for the particles is not known. In order to control this stress, we have now assembled the Gag protein on a quasi‐spherical template derived from bacteriophage P22. This template is monodisperse in size and electron‐transparent, enabling the use of cryo‐electron microscopy in structural studies. These templated assemblies are far less polydisperse than any previously described virus‐like particles (and, while constructed according to the same lattice as natural particles, contain almost no packing defects). This system gives us the ability to study the relationship between packing defects, curvature and elastic energy, and thermodynamic stability. As Gag is bound to the P22 template by single‐stranded DNA, treatment of the particles with DNase enabled us to determine the intrinsic radius of curvature of a Gag lattice, unconstrained by DNA or a template. We found that this intrinsic radius is far larger than that of a virion or P22‐templated particle. We conclude that Gag is under elastic strain in a particle; this has important implications for the kinetics of shell growth, the stability of the shell, and the type of defects it will assume as it grows.  相似文献

This article presents a new nonlinear classifier by arranging linear classifiers in a tree structure. The proposed classifier, called the direct fractional-step linear discriminant (DF-LDA) tree, adopts a tree structure containing a DF-LDA at each node. The structure of the tree classifier evolves as the training proceeds, so there is no need to decide any parameters as a priori. Due to the many DF-LDAs arranged in the tree structure, classification performance of the proposed classifier is improved over single-shot DF-LDA. The proposed DF-LDA tree is tested on various synthetic and real datasets. Experimental results show that the proposed classifier leads to very satisfactory results in terms of classification accuracy.  相似文献

The Indo-Gangetic alluvial plain is subjected to large scale soil alkalization. In order to map and characterize salt-affected soils, with the aim of applying management techniques, Etah district in Uttar Pradesh, located between 26oo45' to 28o02' N and 78o15' to 79o20' E was selected. Multidate, high resolution, IRS-LISS II, geocoded FCC images on 1550 000 scale were used. Integrating visual image interpretation, physiographic analysis, ground data and laboratory analysis of soil samples, a legend for mapping salt-affected soils (SAS) was formulated. Based on variations in physicochemical properties: nature, intensity and depth wise distribution of salts, five categories of SAS requiring specific reclamation measures were identified. Soil categories S2, S3 and S4 have a gypsum requirement (GR) of 20, 12 and 4t/ha-1 respectively. Reclamation of medium to heavy textured highly alkali soils requires the addition of amendments and a rice-wheat rotation for the initial 3-4 years. Under resource constraints, pit planting of Prosopis juliflora can bring about slow but effective reclamation. The soil category S5 is slightly alkali in the substratum, needing only biological reclamation by growing salt tolerant varieties of rice and wheat crops. Soils of category S1 are saline and need management by hydrological treatments. Incorporation of village boundaries on a map showing SAS would facilitate decision taking in planning reclamation projects and accelarate management operations directly at village level.  相似文献

We carried out a detailed study of the kinetics of oxidation of ferrocene (Fc) to ferrocenium ion (Fc+) in the non-aqueous lithium ion conducting electrolyte composed of a solution of 1 M LiPF6 in 1:1 EC:EMC solvent mixture. This study using cyclic (CV) and rotating disk electrode (RDE) voltammetry showed that the Fc0/Fc+ redox couple is reversible in this highly concentrated electrolyte. The ferrocene and ferrocenium ion diffusion coefficients (D) were calculated from these results. In addition, the electron transfer rate constant (k0) and the exchange current density for the oxidation of ferrocene were determined. A comparison of the kinetic data obtained from the two electrochemical techniques appears to show that the data from the RDE experiments are more reliable because they are collected under strict mass transport control. A Tafel slope of c.a. 79 mV/decade and a transfer coefficient α of 0.3 obtained from analysis of the RDE data for ferrocene oxidation suggest that the structure of the activated complex is closer to that of the oxidized specie due to strong interactions with the carbonate solvents. The experiments reported here are relevant to the study of redox reagents for the chemical overcharge protection of Li-ion batteries.  相似文献

Bioavailability of heavy metals present in industrial sludges and their subsequent phytotoxicity are crucial parameters to assess the associated health hazards and suitability for land application. The present study is an effort to determine the extractability of heavy metals present in different phases of the sludges, coming out of two different operations involved in petrochemical industry viz. spent caustic treatment (SCT) and waste water treatment (WWT) following the BCR sequential extraction procedure. The maximum amount of Cd and Cu was found associated with oxidizable phase, whereas Cr and Ni were best recovered in residual fractions of both the sludges. Maximum Pb was recovered in oxidizable and residual phase in the WWT and SCT sludges, respectively. The stabilization treatment undergone by sludges strongly influenced the heavy metal distribution and the phases to which they were associated. The total metal concentration in both the sludges did not exceed the limit set out by the European Legislation and was found as Cd = 0.449, Pb = 3.340, Ni = 6.530, Cr = 21.087, & Cu = 27.129 μg g?1 and Cd = 0.549, Pb = 5.664, Ni = 7.161, Cr = 27.096, & Cu = 35.479 μg g?1 in the SCT and WWT sludges, respectively. Phytotoxicity of the sludges was assessed against the germination index and the relative root and shoot growth. Sludge leachates did not adversely affect the seed germination and the early seedling growth of Mung (Phaseolus mungo) and Gram (Cicer arietinum), indicating that these metals were concentrated in the non-bioavailable fractions of sludges.  相似文献

Fracture toughness tests were conducted on a Ti-62222 (titanium alloy) sheet being considered for use in high temperature aircraft applications in the as received condition and after exposing the pre-cracked specimens to a sustained stress intensity, K, level between 55 and 60.5 MPa for 200 h at 350°C. It was concluded that the fracture toughness does not degrade as a result of exposure to high temperature and the K levels in this material. The tensile strength in the exposed condition also remained the same as in the as received condition.  相似文献

Synthesis and structural studies of nanocrystalline silicon grown in pulsed laser deposited SiOX films is reported. The effect of high energy heavy ion beam irradiation on these films is studied using 100 MeV Ag ions. The structural studies were carried out using micro Raman spectroscopy, GAXRD, FTIR, TEM, HRTEM, SAED and EDX. The occurrence of phase separation in non-stoichiometric silicon oxide by means of ion beam irradiation leading to the formation of silicon nanocrystals in the films is confirmed by the results. HRTEM results reveal the structure of silicon phase formed after ion beam treatment and the particle size can be controlled up to 2-3 nm. A detailed analysis by micro Raman and HRTEM studies suggest the presence of crystallite size distribution. The results of GAXRD and SAED confirm the formation of cubic phase of silicon with two different lattice parameters. The studies conclude that the size of the nanocrystals can be controlled by varying deposition and ion irradiation parameters.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Chemical warfare (CW) agents are highly toxic compounds and have been used in war to produce physical immobilization, so safe and effective ways to detoxify them without endangering human life or the environment is of great concern. One of the important ways to achieve protection against CW agents contaminating air is to utilize suitable adsorbent materials, e.g. activated carbon, nanoparticles, etc. In the present study nanoparticles, synthesized through sol–gel processes and loaded with reactive compounds have been used for the degradation of CW agents and to understand their adsorption kinetics using Fickian and linear driving force models. RESULTS: Nanoparticles of AP‐Al2O3 (aerogel‐produced alumina) in the size range 2–30 nm with high surface area (375 m2 g?1) were produced by an alkoxide‐based synthesis, and then characterized using N2‐Brunauer–Emmet–Teller (BET), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) techniques. Thereafter, these were impregnated, and finally tested for kinetics of adsorption of sulfur mustard (HD) under static conditions. The kinetics was studied using linear driving force and Fickian diffusion models and the kinetics parameters determined. CONCLUSION: AP‐Al2O3 with 10% impregnation of 9‐molybdo‐3‐vanadophosphoric acid (10%, w/w) showed the maximum uptake (640 mg g?1) of HD. The highest adsorption potential indicated that the adsorption was due not only to physisorption but also involved chemisorption. Values of the diffusional exponent indicated the mechanism to be Fickian and anomalous. Hydrolysis, dehydrochlorination and oxidation reactions (identified using gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry (GC/MS)) were found to be the route of degradation of HD over the prepared nanoparticle based adsorbents.
