Solution of diffraction problems by means of the modified Galerkin method

Using the problem of matching of planar waveguides as an example, an approach to solution of diffraction problems with the help of the modified Galerkin method is considered.     

Development of a Simple and Cost-Effective Bead-Milling Method for DNA Extraction from Fish Muscles

In the fish food sector, due to a growing globalization of the market, where intentional and unintentional frauds reach alarming levels, the molecular analysis is increasingly used by both official agencies, to enforce the law on traceability, and private companies, to verify the quality of goods. DNA extraction represents a necessary and critical step for all types of DNA analysis. Among the drawbacks associated with this procedure, there are handling of toxic materials, low DNA yield, and low throughput, due to time-consuming manual procedures. In this work, to overcome some of these problems, we developed an alternative method based on a bead-milling procedure without proteinase K digestion. The new method was then compared with both a salting-out protocol, developed in a previous work, and a commercial kit. Yield, spectrophotometric purity, electrophoretic degradation pattern, and amplificability of the extracted DNA were assessed. In particular, DNA amplificability was evaluated by comparing the band intensity on the gel, after amplification of the 16S rRNA and cytochrome oxidase I genes with a conventional PCR, and the take-off cycles, after amplification of the 16S rRNA gene with a real-time PCR. The results showed that the bead-based method allowed to obtain acceptable amounts of DNA, with good purity and good characteristics of amplificability. Although the salting-out method remains the most effective protocol in terms of pure performances, the bead-milling procedure can be considered a valid alternative, in the light of its lower demand in terms of labor and costs.     

A spectral method for calculation of rectangular shielded waveguides with an arbitrary anisotropic filling

A method for calculation of shielded guiding structures with an arbitrary anisotropic filling is proposed. The method is based on a modified Galerkin procedure. Field components are expanded into the eigenfunction spectrum of the comparison waveguide. The components are related via expansion coefficients, which are determined in the course of solution of a dispersion problem.     

Calculation of the correction factors to reduce the error in measuring the gain of microwave measuring antennas in the fresnel zone radio measurements

A model of the electrodynamic interaction of pyramidal horns in the Fresnel zone to take into account the curvature of the wavefront when measuring the gain is proposed. The results of experimental investigations to reduce the error in measuring the gain in the Fresnel zone are presented.     

Structural decomposition as a tool for the optimization of an FPGA-based implementation of a mealy FSM

Two models of logic circuits are proposed for the implementation of Mealy FSMs. The models are underlain by FPGAs with embedded memory blocks and are based on a transformation of object codes. To decrease the number of lookup table elements, it is proposed to decrease the number of irregular functions representing FSMs. An example of design and results of experiments are given for the proposed synthesis method based on the transformation of codes of collections of microoperations into state codes of FSMs.     

Optimization of a logic circuit implementing a Moore automaton in CPLD basis

A method is proposed for optimization of hardware expenditures for the implementation of Moore automatons (Moore FSMs) in CPLDs. The method lies in using several sources of codes of classes of pseudo-equivalent states, which is possible owing to a wide fan-in of PAL macrocells. The proposed method generates five new circuit models of a Moore automaton. A method of synthesis of a model with three sources of codes is proposed, and an example of its application is presented.
