The outstanding mechanical properties of soft materials i.e. natural rubber are partly due to the organic–inorganic nanomatrix structure because numerous organic microparticles are dispersed in a small amount of an inorganic nanomatrix composed of inorganic nanoparticles and organic macromolecules. Here we form an organic–inorganic nanomatrix using graft-copolymerization of a vinyl monomer with an inorganic oxide precursor onto natural rubber particles with an average diameter of 1 μm dispersed in water. The inorganic oxide precursor is converted into inorganic oxide nanoparticles through hydrolysis and condensation, forming chemical linkages between natural rubber microparticles and inorganic oxide nanoparticles. Transmission electron microscopy indicates that the organic–inorganic nanomatrix is densely filled with inorganic oxide nanoparticles and the natural rubber microparticles are dispersed in the nanomatrix. This nanomatrix composite realizes both energetic elasticity and entropic elasticity of a soft material, opening a novel field of building block chemistry with respect to a pair of organic microparticles and inorganic nanoparticles.  相似文献

Reaction between epoxidized natural rubber and poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) was investigated quantitatively in terms of conversion of the epoxidized natural rubber. The epoxidized natural rubber was prepared by epoxidation of high ammonia natural rubber (HA‐NR) or deproteinized natural rubber (DPNR) with peracetic acid followed by depolymerization with ammonium persulfate. The resulting liquid HA‐NR having epoxy group (LENR) or liquid DPNR having epoxy group (LEDPNR) were subjected to heating at 473 K for 20 min, after blending with PLLA. The products were characterized through morphology observation, DSC measurement, and 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. The conversions of the rubbers were estimated from intensity ratio of signals in 1H‐NMR spectrum for the products after removing unreacted rubber with toluene. Difference in the estimated conversion between the LENR/PLLA and LEDPNR/PLLA blends was interpreted in relation to proteins present in the rubber. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Continuously variable transmission (CVT) provides an automobile with the ability to change the gear ratio continuously, which can then improve not only ride quality such as acceleration performance but also fuel‐efficiency. However, to take advantage of the ability, a control system that can precisely control the gear ratio is required. This paper proposes such a control system for a belt‐driven CVT system. For controller design, first the CVT system is modeled by analytical and experimental approaches. The resultant static and dynamic characteristics provide a nonlinear first‐order model with an uncertain time constant and time delay. The nonlinear steady‐state gain is adjusted to one by a gain‐scheduled pre‐compensator. Thereby the plant model becomes a linear first‐order lag system with a dead time. The next step is controller design using the plant model. To guarantee stability and control performance against the parameter variation and time delay, the μ‐synthesis, a robust control method, is employed for feedback control. In addition, a feedforward controller is incorporated into the feedback control system to obtain better output response. The feedforward controller is given by a combination of the inverse system of the plant and a reference model that gives desired output response. As a result, the control system becomes a two‐degree‐of‐freedom control system. To evaluate the performance of the control system and its effectiveness on the fuel‐efficiency, computer simulation and driving tests were conducted. The simulation and experiment results prove that the proposed control system can make the gear ratio track a reference output quickly and precisely in the presence of the uncertainties. The results also show that the control system improves fuel‐efficiency by changing the gear ratio so that the engine torque and its revolution speed can satisfy optimum‐efficiency operating condition.  相似文献

The needs of efficient and flexible information retrieval on multi-structural data stored in database and network are significantly growing. Especially, its flexibility plays one of the key roles to acquire relevant information desired by users in retrieval process. However, most of the existing approaches are dedicated to a single content and data structure respectively, e.g., relational database and natural text. In this work, we propose “Multi-Structure Information Retrieval” (MSIR) approach applicable to various types of contents and data structures by adapting a small part of the approach to data structures. The power of this approach comes from the use of the invariant feature information obtained from byte patterns in the files through some mathematical transformation. The experimental evaluation of the proposed approach for both artificial and real data indicates its high feasibility. The authors have developed a software tool, MolSpace, to visualize massive molecular datasets. MolSpace can project a set of massive multivariate data onto a visual space (two- or three-dimensional space) by means of principal component analysis. MolSpace allows users not only to draw a scatter diagram of the data but also to display their two- or three-dimensional molecular structures as the objects in that space. With a probe (a molecular object) the user can navigate vast data spaces, thus facilitating understanding of the data structure. In addition, partial space searching is also available that is based on similarity searching techniques. It is possible to interrogate a three-dimensional structure of a chemical compound that corresponds to each object on the space in real time. The detail of the system is discussed with an illustrative example.  相似文献

In order to elucidate the role of plasticity on interface crack initiation from a free edge and crack propagation in a nano-component, delamination experiments were conducted by a proposed nano-cantilever bend method using a specimen consisting of ductile Cu and brittle Si and by a modified four-point bend method. The stress fields along the Cu/Si interface at the critical loads of crack initiation and crack propagation were analyzed by the finite element method. The results reveal that intensified elastic stresses in the vicinity of the interface edge and the crack tip are very different, although the Cu/Si interface is identical in both experiments. The plasticity of Cu was then estimated on the basis of the nano-cantilever deflection measured by in situ transmission electron microscopy. The plasticity affects the stress fields; the normal stress near the interface edge is intensified while that near the crack tip is much reduced. Both the elasto-plastic stresses are close to each other in the region of about 10 nm. This suggests that the local interface fracture, namely, the crack initiation at the interface edge and the crack propagation along the interface, is governed by elasto-plastic normal stress on the order of 10 nm.  相似文献

Diamondlike carbon (DLC) films show high hardness, high electric resistivity, and the self‐lubricant characteristic, and many applications and synthesis methods have been reported. Pulse plasma chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is one of the synthesis methods suitable for DLC films on complicated form work, such as molding and extruding die. Ordinary, microsecond‐order pulse is used in this method. This paper describes the development of the synthesis method using nanosecond‐order pulse plasma CVD for DLC films. To realize this process, a static induction (SI) thyristor with an inductive energy storage (IES) circuit was used. Compared with microsecond, nanosecond‐order pulse plasma CVD method shows the characteristics of high electron temperature and exponential relationship between pulse frequency and growth rate. The characteristics of the thus‐obtained DLC films show two broad peaks of the disordered band at 1360 cm?1 and the graphitic band at 1580 cm?1 by Raman spectroscopy and hardness of 16.0 GPa and elastic modulus of 170 GPa. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Both visual and auditory information are important for songbirds, especially in developmental and sexual contexts. To investigate bimodal cognition in songbirds, the authors conducted audiovisual discrimination training in Bengalese finches. The authors used two types of stimulus: an "artificial stimulus," which is a combination of simple figures and sound, and a "biological stimulus," consisting of video images of singing males along with their songs. The authors found that while both sexes predominantly used visual cues in the discrimination tasks, males tended to be more dependent on auditory information for the biological stimulus. Female responses were always dependent on the visual stimulus for both stimulus types. Only males changed their discrimination strategy according to stimulus type. Although males used both visual and auditory cues for the biological stimulus, they responded to the artificial stimulus depending only on visual information, as the females did.
