The discharge of synthetic and natural steroid estrogens from municipal wastewaters to the aquatic environment has received increased attention because of their potential reproductive effects on fish. Using 17alpha-ethinylestradiol (EE2) as a representative steroid estrogen, several oxidants applied in wastewater treatment (chlorine, bromine, ozone, hydroxyl radical, chlorine dioxide, and ferrate) were shown to selectively and rapidly transform EE2. For typically applied oxidant doses, these transformations occur in the time range of seconds to minutes. The resulting initial transformation products of EE2 exhibit a substantially lower in vitro estrogenic activity (< 13% of EE2). For selected structural derivatives of EE2, a quantitative structure-activity relationship was established between substituents changed on the phenolic moiety and the relative in vitro estrogenic activity. In addition, the initial EE2 transformation products that still exhibit residual estrogenic activity are quickly further transformed by most of the tested oxidants. Therefore, oxidative wastewater treatment may serve as a powerful tool to remove estrogenic activity induced by steroid estrogens.  相似文献

For the improvement of the fatigue strength for welded structures, mechanical posttreatments have been applied in various industrial fields and in most cases have been found to give substantial increases in their fatigue lives. These methods, generally, consist of the modification of weld toe geometry and the introduction of compressive residual stresses. In mechanical surface treatments, for example, PHP (pneumatic hammer peening) and UNSM (ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification), the weld profile is modified due to removed or reduced minute crack‐like flaws, and compressive residual stresses are also induced. In this study, a PHP procedure and a UNSM device were introduced, and a quantitative measure of fatigue strength improvement was performed. The fatigue strength at 2 × 106 cycles of hammer‐peened and UNSM treated on a non‐load‐carrying cruciform welded joint shows 220 and 260 MPa, respectively, which are more than two times higher than that of as‐welded specimen. Especially, the surface layer in the vicinity weld toe treated by the UNSM provides nanocrystal structure created by an ultrasonic cold forging and introduces very high welding residual stress in compression.  相似文献

Activated esters are widely used to label proteins at lysine side chains and N termini. These reagents are useful for labeling virtually any protein, but robust reactivity toward primary amines generally precludes site‐selective modification. In a unique case, fluorophenyl esters are shown to preferentially label human kappa antibodies at a single lysine (Lys188) within the light‐chain constant domain. Neighboring residues His189 and Asp151 contribute to the accelerated rate of labeling at Lys188 relative to the ≈40 other lysine sites. Enriched Lys188 labeling can be enhanced from 50–70 % to >95 % by any of these approaches: lowering reaction temperature, applying flow chemistry, or mutagenesis of specific residues in the surrounding protein environment. Our results demonstrated that activated esters with fluoro‐substituted aromatic leaving groups, including a fluoronaphthyl ester, can be generally useful reagents for site‐selective lysine labeling of antibodies and other immunoglobulin‐type proteins.  相似文献

Three features have been combined to raise the efficiency of solar cells made on industrial multicrystalline silicon wafers: 1) reduction of bulk recombination by a special gettering process, 2) reduction of back recombination by using a p/p + junction, 3) reduction of front recombination by emitter back-etching and passivation.

A conversion efficiency of 15.6% has been achieved on 2 × 2 cm2 solar cells. Spectral response measurements are used to identify the role of each processing parameter.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new parallel genome matching algorithm using graphics processing units (GPUs). Our proposed approach is based on the Aho–Corasick algorithm and it was developed based on a consideration of the architectural features of existing GPUs with a hundred or more cores. Thus, we provide an appropriate task partitioning method that runs on multiple threads and we fully utilize the cache memory and the shared memory structures available in GPUs. Especially, we propose a tiled access method for rapid data transfer from the global memory to the shared memory. We also provide new models for cache-friendly state transition table to improve performance of pattern matching operations on GPUs. The maximum throughput we achieved in various experiments was 15.3 Gbps. Moreover, we showed that our proposed design outperformed an earlier approach with a 15.4 % performance improvement.  相似文献

The potential of ferrate (Fe(VI)) oxidation to remove N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) precursors during water treatment was assessed. Apparent second-order rate constants (k(app)) for the reactions of NDMA and its suspected precursors (dimethylamine (DMA) and 7 tertiary amines with DMA functional group) with Fe(VI) were determined in the range of pH 6-12. Four model NDMA precursors (dimethyldithiocarbamate, dimethylaminobenzene, 3-(dimethylaminomethyl)indole and 4-dimethylaminoantipyrine) showed high reactivity toward Fe(VI) with k(app) values at pH 7 between 2.6 x 10(2) and 3.2 x 10(5)M(-1)s(-1). The other NDMA precursors (DMA, trimethylamine, dimethylethanolamine, dimethylformamide) and NDMA had k(app) values ranging from 0.55 to 9.1M(-1)s(-1) at pH 7. In the second part of the study, the NDMA formation potentials (NDMA-FP) of the model NDMA precursors and natural waters were measured with and without pre-oxidation by Fe(VI). For most of the NDMA precursors with the exception of DMA, a significant reduction of the NDMA-FP (>95%) was observed after complete transformation of the NDMA precursor. This result was supported by low yields of DMA from the Fe(VI) oxidation of tertiary amine NDMA precursors. Pre-oxidation of several natural waters (rivers Rhine, Neckar and Pfinz) with a high dose of Fe(VI) (0.38 mM = 21 mg L(-1) as Fe) led to removals of the NDMA-FP of 46-84%. This indicates that the NDMA precursors in these waters have a low reactivity toward Fe(VI) because it has been shown that for fast-reacting NDMA precursors Fe(VI) doses of 20 microM (1.1 mg L(-1) as Fe) are sufficient to completely oxidize the precursors.  相似文献

The miniaturized 10 GHz microstrip band-pass filter was successfully fabricated on the alumina thick films grown on Cu substrates at room temperature by aerosol deposition method and using the newly developed pattern electroplating procedure and electromagnetic analysis. The relative dielectric permittivity and loss tangent of the aerosol-deposited alumina thick films on Cu were 9.9 and 0.089, respectively. The resistivity of the electroplated Cu line was determined to be 2 × 10? 8 Ω m. The very good agreement was shown between results simulated using a 3-dimensional electromagnetic analysis and the actual measured data.  相似文献

Various computer-simulated person (CSP) models have been used to represent occupants in indoor airflow simulations using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Despite the capability of CFD to predict temperature and velocity fields in an automotive cabin or a room in a building, it is more difficult to evaluate the degree of thermal comfort considered by the CSP models. Up to now, the shapes of CSP models and their grid characteristics have not been studied for the evaluation of indoor thermal comfort. In this paper, the effects of the human model’s shape and the physical characteristics of the grids are studied. The FLUENT code is used for analysis, and the predicted mean vote (PMV), predicted percentage dissatisfied (PPD), and equivalent homogeneous temperature (EHT) values are used for the evaluation and comparison of thermal comfort. The computational results show that the CSP shape and grid features do not affect the global flow fields or the evaluations of PMV and PPD. However, more precise results are obtained from the evaluation of thermal comfort by EHT when detailed human models with a prism grid are used.  相似文献

Ferrate (Fe(VI)) has high potentials as a multi-purpose water treatment chemical acting as an oxidant, coagulant, and disinfectant, but little detail has been reported concerning its biocidal ability. In this study, the inactivation efficiencies of three Fe(VI) species (H(x)FeO(4)(x-2), x=0, 1, 2) are quantified using Escherichia coli as a model microorganism. E. coli inactivation by Fe(VI) was performed in solutions buffered with 25 mM phosphate in the pH range of 5.6-8.2 and at 25 degrees C. Kinetics of E. coli inactivation were successfully fitted to the Modified Delayed Chick-Watson model in the tested pH range, indicating that log inactivation level of E. coli is linearly proportional to exposure amount of E. coli to Fe(VI). The rate constant of E. coli inactivation by Fe(VI) (k(obs)) that was obtained from the linear regression increased non-linearly from 0.33 to 6.25 l(mg min)(-1) with decreasing pH from 8.2 to 5.6. From the measured pH dependency of k(obs) and the known acidity constants of Fe(VI) species (pK(a), H(2)FeO(4)=3.50 and pK(a), HFeO(4)(-)=7.23), HFeO(4)(-) and H(2)FeO(4) were found to be 3 and 265 times as effective as FeO(4)(2-) in E. coli inactivation, respectively.  相似文献

Energy saving and indoor air condition enhancing potentials by integrating the variable refrigerant flow (VRF) and heat pump desiccant (HPD) systems were investigated in a field performance test during a cooling season. Three different operating modes: non-ventilated, HPD ventilation assisted and HPD ventilation–dehumidification assisted VRF systems were investigated. The HPD systems operated in the ventilation–dehumidification mode dehumidify the outdoor air and supply it to the indoor air during the ventilation. It was found that the VRF systems provided an average of 97.6% of the total cooling energy for the HPD ventilation assisted mode. The remainder was the recovered cool by the HPD systems during ventilation. The VRF systems provided an average of 78.9% of the total cooling energy for the HPD ventilation–dehumidification assisted mode. The remainder was covered by the HPD systems which provided additional sensible and latent cooling. Overall, among the three operating modes, it is concluded that the HPD ventilation–dehumidification assisted VRF outdoor units consume less energy than the HPD ventilation assisted ones, but more than the non-ventilated ones, while providing the best indoor thermal comfort and indoor air quality conditions. For the total system, the HPD ventilation–dehumidification assisted VRF systems consume less energy than the HPD ventilation assisted ones.  相似文献
