Estimation of Uncertainty in the Calibration of Industrial Platinum Resistance Thermometers (IPRT) Using Monte Carlo Method

Monte Carlo method has been implemented for uncertainty estimation in IPRT calibration. The work is based on the Callendar van Dusen equation for 0–500 °C calibration range. Derivation of the mathematics model for running the simulation is also described. Results are compared with output from the traditional GUM method and we find close agreement between two methods.     

Revertible tone mapping of high dynamic range imagery: Integration to JPEG 2000

This paper presents a revertible tone mapping approach based on subband architecture where the dynamic range of the HDR (High Dynamic Range) image is decreased to LDR (Low Dynamic Range) to fit several types of applications. The LDR image can be later expanded to get back the original HDR content. One important benefit of the proposed approach is its backward compatibility with low dynamic (LDR) image applications since no extra information is needed to perform a very efficient HDR reconstruction. In order to improve the efficiency of our TM (Tone Mapping), we couple it with an optimisation procedure to minimize the reconstruction error. Subjective and objective comparisons with state-of-the-art methods have shown superior quality results of both tone mapped and reconstructed images. As a potential application, the integration of the proposed tone mapping to JPEG 2000 encoder achieved competitive performance compared to reference HDR image encoders.     

Computational algorithms for computing the fractional derivatives of functions

In this paper, we propose algorithms to compute the fractional derivatives of a function by a weighted sum of function values at specified points. The fractional derivatives are considered in the Caputo sense. The error analysis of the algorithms and some illustrative examples are presented. The numerical results confirm that the new algorithms are accurate, efficient and readily implemented.

Analytic study on linear systems of fractional differential equations

An analytic study on linear systems of fractional differential equations with constant coefficients is presented. We briefly describe the issues of existence, uniqueness and stability of the solutions for two classes of linear fractional differential systems. This paper deals with systems of differential equations of fractional order, where the orders are equal to real number or rational numbers between zero and one. Exact solutions for initial value problems of linear fractional differential systems are analytically derived. Existence and uniqueness results are proved for two classes. The presented results are illustrated by analyzing some examples to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented analytical approaches.     

Qualitative evaluation of the germination frequency in Zr–Fe binary alloy

Major thermo-physical properties data are of fundamental importance to accurate and reliable design of melting and casting processes. In this paper, we show that we can control the germination process using thermodynamics data. These data must be known for the entire period of time and temperature range of interest in any given condition. In addition, a kinetic approach is employed to predict the microstructure of alloys. Viscosity data for Zr₇₆Fe₂₄, are fitted with an empirical relation. The best fit allows to estimate, through the resistance to germination factor, thermodynamic proprieties of interest (i.e., namely the enthalpy of fusion, the surface tension, the molar volume and the glass temperature). From the values of these quantities, the parameters (T, t) can be estimated. The temperature T is found between 930 K and 1194 K and the time t can be derived from the plateau of the germination frequency–temperature profile.
