BACKGROUND: Apples contain a large concentration of phenolic compounds, dependent on factors such as cultivar, harvest, storage conditions, and processing. This study aims to identify the essential phenolic compounds present in various apple varieties, to measure their total antioxidant capacity (TAC) with the CUPRAC (cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity) and ABTS (2,2′‐azino‐bis(3‐ethylbenzothiazoline‐6‐sulfonate)) methods, and to correlate their TAC values with HPLC findings. RESULTS: The order of TAC (mmol Trolox g?1 fresh weight) of apple peels determined with the CUPRAC method was: Granny Smith > Amasya > Sky Spur > Ervin Spur > King Luscious ≥ Arap Kizi ≥ Lutz Golden. The theoretically calculated TAC values of HPLC‐quantified compounds, with the aid of the combined HPLC‐CUPRAC method, accounted for 18.4–33.5% of the experimentally observed CUPRAC capacity of peel extracts and 19.5–56.3% of flesh extracts, depending on apple variety. CONCLUSION: In synthetic samples of apple antioxidants, the CUPRAC‐TAC values of constituents, identified and analyzed by HPLC, proved to be additive, enabling measurement of the cooperative action of antioxidants using the proposed methodology. Apple peel showed higher contents of phenolics and therefore higher TAC than apple flesh, confirming the health benefit of the consumption of apples together with peel. © 2012 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

In this study, experimental neutron-emission spectra produced by (n, xn) reactions on nuclei 232Th have been compared with experimental 238U(n, xn) neutron-emission spectra from 2 to 18 MeV. Angle-integrated cross-sections in neutron induced reactions on targets 238U have been calculated at the bombarding energies from 2 to 18 MeV. In the calculations, the geometry dependent hybrid model and the cascade exciton model including the effects of pre-equilibrium have been used. In addition, we have described how multiple pre-equilibrium emissions can be included in the Feshbach–Kerman-Koonin (FKK) fully quantum-mechanical theory. By analyzing (n, xn) reaction on 238U with the incident energy from 2 to 18 MeV, the importance of multiple pre-equilibrium emission can be seen clearly. All calculated results have been compared with experimental data. The obtained results have been discussed and compared with the available experimental data and found agreement with each other.  相似文献

We developed a dynamic model of a Nitinol artificial muscle activated biomimetic robot. The robot was reverse engineered from the American lobster and built in the Biomimetic Underwater Robot Program at Northeastern University. It is intended for autonomous remote-sensing operations in shallow waters. An experimentally based Nitinol artificial muscle model was integrated into the robot dynamic model. The hydrodynamic characteristics of the robot were determined experimentally. The muscle control signals were generated by utilizing a readily available biomimetic control architecture. The effects of the timing parameters were investigated. Simulations indicate that the developed robot is able to locomote with high stability. It can walk against constant currents and surge.  相似文献

This paper presents a neural network predictor for analysing rigidity variations of hydrostatic bearing system. The designed neural network has feedforward structure with three layers. The layers are input layer, hidden layer and output layer. Two main parameter could be considered for hydrostatic bearing system. These parameters are the size of bearing pocket and the orifice dimension. Due to importancy of these parameters, it is necessary to analyse with a suitable optimisation method such as neural network. As depicted from the results, the proposed neural predictor exactly follows experimental desired results.  相似文献

Text categorization is the task of automatically assigning unlabeled text documents to some predefined category labels by means of an induction algorithm. Since the data in text categorization are high-dimensional, often feature selection is used for reducing the dimensionality. In this paper, we make an evaluation and comparison of the feature selection policies used in text categorization by employing some of the popular feature selection metrics. For the experiments, we use datasets which vary in size, complexity, and skewness. We use support vector machine as the classifier and tf-idf weighting for weighting the terms. In addition to the evaluation of the policies, we propose new feature selection metrics which show high success rates especially with low number of keywords. These metrics are two-sided local metrics and are based on the difference of the distributions of a term in the documents belonging to a class and in the documents not belonging to that class. Moreover, we propose a keyword selection framework called adaptive keyword selection. It is based on selecting different number of terms for each class and it shows significant improvement on skewed datasets that have a limited number of training instances for some of the classes.  相似文献

In this article, a sufficient condition on the minimum dwell time that guarantees the stability of switched linear systems is given. The proposed method interprets the stability of switched linear systems through the distance between the eigenvector sets of subsystem matrices. Thus, an explicit relation in view of stability is obtained between the family of the involved subsytems and the set of admissible switching signals.  相似文献

An efficient design method for substrate integrated waveguide electromagnetic bandgap (SIW-EBG) filters is proposed which provides direct dimensional synthesis approach for desired filter objectives without using network representations. The method is applied to the design of an X band SIW-EBG filter and its response is compared with HFSS (high frequency structure simulator) simulations for validation purposes. Fairly good agreement between the results shows the applicability of the proposed method for SIW-EBG filter design.  相似文献

In the present experimental study, strengthening of gray cast iron by reinforcing with steel plates was investigated in the as-cast and normalized conditions. Normalizing heat treatments were applied to the specimens at temperatures of 800 °C and 850 °C. Three-point bend specimens were manufactured from gray cast iron and also from gray cast iron with reinforced steel plates. Flexural strengths of the steel-plate-reinforced cast iron were calculated for four distinct volume fractions (Vr = 0.04, 0.08, 0.12, and 0.16). The current study shows that the steel-plate-reinforced gray cast iron has higher flexural strength and flexural modulus than the cast iron without reinforcement. The flexural strength considerably increases with slight increase in normalization temperature. Optical and scanning electron microscopy analyses were used to examine flake morphology and microstructures of gray cast iron and steel-plate-reinforced gray cast iron. It is noted that carbon diffuses from the gray cast iron to the steel plates. A transition region containing partially dissolved graphite and having high hardness was observed due to the carbon diffusion.  相似文献

Roasted carob powder was obtained using different time–temperature combinations and some quality characteristics such as total phenolic content (TPC), total antioxidant activity (TAA), browning index (BI) at 420 nm, UV absorbance (UV-A) at 294 nm, and pH has been investigated. Both the roasting temperature and time significantly (P < 0.01) affected the quality characteristics of the product. However, the roasting time was found to be a critical factor in determining the overall quality of the product. While the TPC, TAA, BI and UV-A values of the samples increased with the increasing roasting temperature and time, the pH of the samples decreased gradually. The quality characteristics of the carob powders changed markedly in between 20 and 60 min of roasting which indicates that the heat-induced reactions accelerate particularly in that period of roasting. The correlations between all these chemical properties of carob powder were found to be significant (P < 0.0001) during roasting.  相似文献
