Research in accelerated pavement testing (APT) facilities has traditionally focused on the pavement performance such as rutting and fatigue cracking, but documentation on construction management and information of the actual pavement construction quality is limited. There are typically four critical factors that need to be considered to achieve the best possible outcome in construction: cost, schedule, construction process, and quality control, and management. With the objective of developing guidelines for planning and executing construction of a small-scale APT facility, this paper presents a case study documenting and evaluating the construction process and construction management efforts of two sensor-instrumented hot mix asphalt pavement test sections built in a small-scale APT facility. The focus of the experiment was to study bottom-up fatigue cracking of the flexible pavement structure. The presented information and lessons learned serve as a template and guide for agencies pursuing this type of research and pavement construction. 相似文献

Relationships among stressful life events, negative affect, and judged quality of intimate relationships were explored. Three studies and a mini-meta-analysis revealed that as negative life events increased, judgments of close relationships gradually became less favorable, jumped back toward positivity, and then, again, gradually became less favorable. The same methods of analysis revealed a relationship between negative life events and negative affect with no evidence of significant discontinuities. Moreover, the correlation between relationship satisfaction and negative affect (with negative events held constant), was maximized at the point of relationship-judgment discontinuity. Although the findings are complex, they are consistent with the authors' theoretical account and represent an initial attempt to conceptualize the effect of negative life events in light of the recent social judgment literature. The effects of linoleic, linolenic and columbinic acids fed as 4% of a high carbohydrate (50% glucose) diet on the activities
and the amounts of several enzymes associated with fatty acid synthesis in livers and mammary glands of lactating mice were
compared with those for stearic and oleic acids. Fatty acid synthesis, measured in vivo, was significantly lower in livers
of mice ingesting all 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), whereas in mammary glands synthesis was lower only in mice receiving
columbinic acid. The activities of fatty acid synthetase (FAS) and acetyl CoA carboxylase were significantly reduced in liver
by all 3 PUFA, as were activities of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, malic enzyme (ME) and citrate cleavage enzyme (CCE),
also associated with lipogenesis. In mammary gland, on the other hand, the activities of these enzymes were unaffected by
dietary PUFA. The tissue contents of FAS, ME and CCE, measured by rocket immunoelectrophoresis, were found to be significantly
reduced in liver by linoleate, linolenate and columbinate but were not significantly altered in mammary gland. The decrease
in hepatic lipogenesis observed was principally due to a decrease in the amounts of these enzymes induced by the dietary PUFA
but the inhibition in mammary gland caused by columbinate could not be accounted for by a reduction in enzyme contents and
therefore may be due to allosteric effects which occur when fatty acid synthesis is measured with3H2O. The fatty acid composition in liver and mammary gland of dams and in liver and kidney of pups completely reflected dietary
fatty acids. Columbinate made up ca. 20% of the total fatty acids in both tissues of the columbinic acid-fed mice and ca.
15% in the pup tissues. This suggests that columbinate is incorporated into milk lipids of dams and is easily absorbed by
pups. The elevated ratios of 16/16∶1 and 18/18∶1 in liver and mammary gland of dams and liver and kidney of the pups from
dams fed linoleate, linolenate and columbinate suggest that each of these polyunsaturated fatty acids in the diet can inhibit

Sulfur containing graft polymers that may be of interest as polymeric transfer agents were synthesized. Graft polymerization of propylene sulfide on crosslinked polystyrene beads was investigated; both crosslinked polystyrene and its chloromethylated derivative were grafted. Crosslinked polystyrene was metallated by BuLi–TMEDA and was used to initiate anionic graft polymerization of propylene sulfide. Graft polymers of high polypropylene sulfide content corresponding to 10 mmol s/g were obtained. The grafted polypropylene sulfide was evenly distributed across the bead cross section. No change in bead surface characteristics was observed. Grafting on chloromethylated polystyrene beads was achieved by reaction between the chloromethylene groups with sulfide groups of performed polypropylene sulfide, and with terminal sodium thiolate groups of living polypropylene sulfide. 相似文献

A pressurized melt gyration process has been used for the first time to generate poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) fibers. Gyration speed, working pressure, and melt temperature are varied and these parameters influence the fiber diameter and the temperature enabled changing the surface morphology of the fibers. Two types of nonwoven PCL fiber constructs are prepared. First, Ag‐doped PCL is studied for antibacterial activity using Gram‐negative Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa microorganisms. The melt temperature used to make these constructs significantly influences antibacterial activity. Neat PCL nonwoven scaffolds are also prepared and their potential for application in muscular tissue engineering is studied with myoblast cells. Results show significant cell attachment, growth, and proliferation of cells on the scaffolds.

The paper presents the results on the deposition of nanoscale structurally laminated CrN films using a novel multi pulse modulated pulsed power (MPP) magnetron sputtering technique. With the multi pulse MPP approach, thin films with a structural modulation in the nanometer range are obtained by alternately switching two (or even more) high power MPP pulses on the same target, which have different pulse lengths, frequencies and powers. Each pulse was turned on for a pulse repeat duration during which this given pulse shape was repeated. In this study, CrN films have been deposited in a closed field unbalanced magnetron sputtering system using the multi pulse MPP technique by varying the pulse repeat duration of two different pulses. The CrN films were also deposited by dc magnetron sputtering (dcMS) and single pulse MPP techniques for comparison. The microstructure and properties of the films were characterized using glancing incident X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, nanoindentation, and ball-on-disk wear tests. The structure and properties of the multi pulse MPP CrN films depended on the pulse repeat duration. The highest hardness of 30.5 GPa and an H/E ratio of 0.9 have been achieved in the multi pulse MPP CrN films. The wear rate of the single pulse MPP and multi pulse MPP CrN films decreased by a factor of 5.8–17 as compared to the dcMS CrN films. 相似文献

Whole dead poultry birds obtained from commercial layer farms were assessed for fat in the whole carcass and then dry rendered in three different rendering regimens T1, T2 and T3 (temperature = 120, 130 and 140 °C and shell pressure = 1, 2 and 3 kg/cm2 respectively) and the effect on the yield and quality of the rendered chicken oil were studied. The overall fat percentage of the whole dead poultry carcass was 14.55 ± 0.17 % and the fat content of ‘greaves’ was 14.49 ± 0.38 %. In the dry batch rendering trials, the mean overall fat recovery was 24.46 ± 1.19, 26.78 ± 3.14 and 22.42 ± 2.32 % and the overall fat yield was 3.52 ± 1.72, 3.84 ± 0.44 and 3.22 ± 0.33 % of the carcass weight in T1, T2 and T3 respectively. Solvent extraction of fat could recover 96.10 ± 0.14 % of fat from ‘greaves’ which was significantly higher than the mechanical centrifugation method. Among the quality characteristics of the rendered chicken oil (RCO), moisture content ranged from 0.61 % (T2) to 1.09 % (T1) and the mean specific gravity was 0.91 at 30 °C. The FFA values of RCO obtained from the T3 rendering regimen were significantly (p < 0.05) higher than the FFA values of T2 and T1. The mean acid value, iodine number, peroxide value, saponification value and unsaponifiable matter present in RCO showed no significant difference. The fatty acid profile and calorific values were studied. The RCO was converted to biodiesel by transesterification and the physico-chemical properties of the biodiesel were studied and compared with the Indian biodiesel specification. 相似文献

Increased striatal dopamine D2 receptor activity is thought to contribute to the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. To model this condition in mice, Kellendonk et al. (2006) generated transgenic mice that selectively overexpress the D2 receptor in striatum (D2OE). Drew et al. (2007) reported that D2OE mice display deficits in interval timing and motivation. The present study further explored the impaired timing in D2OE mice. Experiment 1 assessed the role of motivation in producing timing deficits in the peak procedure and found that performance in D2OE mice was improved by increasing motivation. In addition, performance was impaired in control mice when motivation was decreased. In Experiment 2, we found that D2OE mice have no timing impairment when tested using the bisection task, a procedure in which the measure of timing performance is less influenced by motivation to respond. In Experiment 3, we also used the bisection task and found selective impairment in timing of long durations in D2OE mice. These results suggest that striatal D2 overexpression impairs timing by decreasing motivation and through its impact on working memory and/or sustained attention. We have developed waveguides for the mid-IR spectrum using silver halide crystals. Diffused planar waveguides constructed from silver chlorobromide (AgClBr) with different diffusion thicknesses were designed and characterized. The waveguides were based on our changing the refractive index of the guiding layer by a diffusion of Br- ions into crystalline AgCl substrates. The waveguides were analyzed and investigated with a 10.6-microm CO2 laser, and the optically measured thicknesses of the waveguides were found to vary between 65 and 600 microm. The propagation losses were in the range of 4-16 dB/cm, and the maximal entrance angle was 62 degrees. The output beam distribution was measured and was in good correlation with a numerical analysis simulation based on a ray-tracing model, by use of the eikonal equation. 相似文献
