Subsidence of an uncemented canine femoral stem

Factors contributing to subsidence were analyzed by radiographic evaluation and mechanical testing of 36 canine cadaver femora during and after insertion of an uncemented porous-coated femoral stem and by radiographic evaluation of 35 canine total hip arthroplasties. Mean percentage of canal fill in immediate postoperative radiographs, and percentage of canal fill at midimplant and distal implant locations, were accurate predictors of subsidence. Force required to implant the femoral stem was strongly correlated with force required for implant subsidence. Femoral morphology and percentage of canal fill at the middle and distal sites were accurate predictors of subsidence. Implants in femora with a stovepipe morphology (canal flare index less than or equal to 1.8) were six times more likely to subside than implants in femora that had a normal appearance (canal flare index 1.8 to 2.5), and 72 times more likely to subside than implants in champagne-fluted femora (canal flare index greater than or equal to 2.5). Femora with more than 85% mean, middle, or distal canal fill were less likely to subside.     

Psychotherapy for gay male couples

Although there is no specific therapy for gay male couples, this paper outlines the more critical issues therapists must understand to provide optimal treatment for gay male dyads. Additionally, the authors present new assumptions arising from their five year research study of 156 gay male couples living together from one to over 37 years. The most therapeutically useful finding is that stages of these relationships parallel stages of clinical development. Each stage has its own unique characteristics, stresses and benefits. Stages are affected by many influences, and individuals can be at different stages simultaneously.     

Egyptian Mango Juice. Experiment on Storage Experience

In this study processed mango juice was packed in four types of containers and stored at different temperatures for 16 weeks through which furfural level determination and organoleptic assessment were conducted. The experiment revealed an evident relationship to exist among furfural level, storage temperature and type of packing material. Furfural level failed to closely parallel flavour difference; therefore it could be regarded as one of the features concomitant juice aging rather than accepted as a satisfactory criterion of off flavour. The study relates flavour deterioration to the changes in the lipid fraction of the juice.     

Significance of the state of the celiac and mesenteric arteries in the treatment of occlusive lesions of the abdominal aorta and iliac vessels

The status of the celiac and mesenteric arteries in 124 patients with occlusive injuries to the abdominal aorta and iliac arteries has been studied by means of the antero-posterior and lateral translumbar abdominal aortography. Clinical picture and symptoms of pathological conditions with the regard to the localization of occlusion are described. Some practical recommendations are given.
