A novel approach to piecewise analytic agricultural machinery path reconstruction

Before analysing machinery operation in fields, it has to be coped with the problem that the GPS signals of GPS receivers located on the machines contain measurement noise, are time-discrete, and the underlying physical system describing the positions, axial and absolute velocities, angular rates and angular orientation of the operating machines during the whole working time are unknown. This research work presents a new three-dimensional mathematical approach using kinematic relations based on control variables as Euler angular velocities and angles and a discrete target control problem, such that the state control function is given by the sum of squared residuals involving the state and control variables to get such a physical system, which yields a noise-free and piecewise analytic representation of the positions, velocities, angular rates and angular orientation. It can be used for a further detailed study and analysis of the problem of why agricultural vehicles operate in practice as they do.     

Cloning,Expression and Purification of Cindoxin,an Unusual Fmn‐Containing Cytochrome P450 Redox Partner

Cytochromes P450 (P450s) belong to a superfamily of haemoproteins that catalyse a remarkable variety of oxidative transformations. P450 catalysis generally requires that cognate redox proteins transfer electrons, derived ultimately from NAD(P)H, to the P450 for oxygen activation. P450_cin (CYP176A1) is a bacterial P450 that is postulated to allow Citrobacter braakii to live on cineole as its sole carbon source by initiating cineole biodegradation. Here we report the cloning, expression, purification and characterisation of one of its postulated redox partners, cindoxin (Cdx), which has strong similarity to the FMN domain of cytochrome P450 reductase. Cindoxin reductase (CdR), which displays strong similarity to NADPH‐dependent ferredoxin reductases, was unable to be expressed in a functional form. Mass spectrometric and HPLC analyses confirmed that the flavin cofactor of cindoxin was FMN. Redox potentiometric titrations were performed with cindoxin within the range 6<pH<8; this enabled the quinone/semiquinone (E₁) and semiquinone/hydroquinone (E₂) redox potentials to be determined. Our results show that cindoxin might be somewhat different to other flavodoxins that interact with P450s, in which generally only one couple is important. Both redox states of cindoxin could be catalytically relevant. A catalytically active system was reconstituted in vitro with E. coli flavodoxin reductase (Fpr) acting as the terminal redox partner in the absence of CdR. Our results show that Cdx and Fpr support regio‐ and stereoselective P450_cin‐catalysed cineole oxidation to (1R)‐6β‐hydroxycineole with turnover rates up to 1500 min^?1. This system is tightly coupled with 80 % of NADPH reducing equivalents funnelled into substrate oxidation.     

Overview of complementary GaAs technology for high-speed VLSIcircuits

A self-aligned complementary GaAs (CGaAs) technology (developed at Motorola) for low-power, portable, digital and mixed-mode circuits is being extended to address high-speed VLSI circuit applications. The process supports full complementary, unipolar (pseudo-DCFL), source-coupled, and dynamic (domino) logic families. Though this technology is not yet mature, it is years ahead of CMOS in terms of fast gate delays at low power supply voltages. Complementary circuits operating at 0.9 V have demonstrated power-delay products of 0.01 μW/MHz/gate. Propagation delays of unipolar circuits are as low as 25 ps. Logic families can be mixed on a chip to trade power for delay. CGaAs is being evaluated for VLSI applications through the design of a PowerPC-architecture microprocessor     

Structure of adrenodoxin and function in mitochondrial steroid hydroxylation

The three-dimensional structure of a truncated mutant of bovine adrenodoxin has been resolved at 1.85 A resolution by MAD. The protein consists of a large core region and a more flexible hairpin loop bearing residues which have been previously described as being involved in redox partner recognition. To study the role of distinct protein domains and amino acids of adrenodoxin in interaction with adrenodoxin reductase (AdR), CYP11A1 and CYP11B1, as well as in electron transfer, mutants of adrenodoxin have been prepared by site-directed mutagenesis and produced in Escherichia coli, and their structural and functional properties have been characterized in detail. It could be demonstrated that Tyr82 is located at the edge of the flexible interaction loop of adrenodoxin participating in interactions with AdR and P450s. His56, being close to Tyr82, forms a bridge between the core region of adrenodoxin and the interaction loop. Its role in transmitting changes of the cluster region to the interaction site has also been supported by functional studies. Pro108 of adrenodoxin, the only proline residue contained in the protein and being conserved in this position among several other vertebrate-type ferredoxins, has been demonstrated to be of importance for the correct folding of this protein.     

Intelligent Assist Systems for Flexible Assembly

The growing number of product variants, smaller lot sizes, reduced time to market and shorter lifecycles of products have lead to increasing demands on automation equipment and concepts. As a solution, hybrid human integrated approaches are proposed. The idea is to combine human flexibility, intelligence and skills with the advantages of sophisticated technical systems. Intelligent assist systems (IAS) represent a novel class of assembly systems capable of working with human operators in two modes: workplace sharing and time sharing. This paper presents a novel collaborative robot system (“Cobot”) capable of sharing the workspace with the human co-worker and collaborating with him through direct physical contact.     

Effects of fiber orientation on strain concentrations in glass reinforced polyamides

Orientation of reinforcement fibers in injection molded parts is a key factor in determining their strength and stiffness: therefore stress-strain analyses based on isotropic material models produce only rough results. We present a flow/strain analysis methodology that accounts for the actual anisotropic material properties and fiber orientation. Material properties are determined by experiment, fiber orientation is inferred from flow simulation results (velocity vectors). Stress/strain fields are calculated by means of finite element analysis. Results show that for notched parts molded from short glass reinforced polyamide resin, there is a significant dependence of the strain concentration on the local fiber orientation resulting from different injection molding conditions.     

Prevention of health risks in the use of MRI procedures. Recommendations of the Radiation Protection Commission

Magnetic resonance imaging is used routinely with much success for various problems in different medical disciplines. However, the patient is exposed to static as well as to time-dependent magnetic fields and radiofrequency electromagnetic fields. In 1997 the Strahlenschutzkommission, the German Radiological Protection Commission, passed a recommendation on the use of magnetic resonance in medical diagnostics. In this recommendation basic values related to thresholds for physiological effects and limits for restricted and unrestricted use are given. In the following the aim and applicability of this recommendation are discussed, as well as the thresholds and different limits for the static magnetic fields, the gradient fields and the radio-frequency fields. Additionally, advice is given for the protection of high-risk patients, personnel, and the general public, together with further safety advice as well as recommendations for users and manufacturers.

Administered a modified version of a Piagetian test on the concept of relative velocity (including questions on the duration of relative displacements) to 96 children placed in age groups of 7, 9, 11, and 13 yr. It was found that (a) the developmental stages of the concept were comparable to those observed by Piaget except for formal operations which seem to evolve later; (b) the combination of 2 movements of same direction but unequal velocity is more difficult to synthesize than any other; (c) success on the problem of durations is not a prerequisite of at least partial success on the problem of velocities; and (d) complete success on the problem of velocities is not necessarily verbalized in spatio-temporal terms. To explain the difficulty observed in synthesizing velocities, the importance of the instructions (e.g., specifying the speed of each mobile) and of changes in the spatial order of the mobiles was emphasized.
