The genomics, proteomics, clinical, and drug discovery laboratories have a growing need to maintain valuable samples at ultra-low (−80°C) temperatures in a validated, secure environment. Automated sample processing systems have until now required manual (off-line) storage of samples at −80°C, reducing system reliability and speed. Both of these important needs are addressed by the Sample Process Management System being introduced by BIOPHILE Inc. Conventional sample management processes, such as storage, retrieval, and cataloging, are increasingly strained by the growing sample populations. There are variable sample types, access requirements and storage requirements. Security and inventory procedures are implemented manually. The evolving technologies present in the laboratory cannot interface with conventional manual storage techniques. Addressing these limitations, the primary benefits of BIOPHILE's solutions are:
• Fully validated sample management process that coordinates the life-cycles of samples and their related data.
• Robotic technology to securely store and retrieve samples, improving their accessibility and stability. Thermal shock is reduced, improving sample longevity and quality. The robotic technology allows integration with larger automation systems.
• A process program to develop a Sample Management Strategy. This strategy is developed by analyzing long-term research goals, current baseline processes, and identification of current sample life cycles. A full validation documentation package can be generated, providing a high level of quality assurance.
• Improved sample visibility and quality assurance - automated sample population cataloging; controlled sample management access and security.

The development of successful metaheuristic algorithms such as local search for a difficult problem such as satisfiability testing (SAT) is a challenging task. We investigate an evolutionary approach to automating the discovery of new local search heuristics for SAT. We show that several well-known SAT local search algorithms such as Walksat and Novelty are composite heuristics that are derived from novel combinations of a set of building blocks. Based on this observation, we developed CLASS, a genetic programming system that uses a simple composition operator to automatically discover SAT local search heuristics. New heuristics discovered by CLASS are shown to be competitive with the best Walksat variants, including Novelty+. Evolutionary algorithms have previously been applied to directly evolve a solution for a particular SAT instance. We show that the heuristics discovered by CLASS are also competitive with these previous, direct evolutionary approaches for SAT. We also analyze the local search behavior of the learned heuristics using the depth, mobility, and coverage metrics proposed by Schuurmans and Southey.  相似文献

Abstract— The direct voltage programming of active‐matrix organic light‐emitting‐diode (AMOLED) pixels with n‐channel amorphous‐Si (a‐Si) TFTs requires a contact between the driving TFT and the OLED cathode. Current processing constraints only permit connecting the driving TFT to the OLED anode. Here, a new “inverted” integration technique which makes the direct programming possible by connecting the driver n‐channel a‐Si TFT to the OLED cathode is demonstrated. As a result, the pixel drive current increases by an order of magnitude for the same data voltages and the pixel data voltage for turn‐on drops by several volts. In addition, the pixel drive current becomes independent of the OLED characteristics so that OLED aging does not affect the pixel current. Furthermore, the new integration technique is modified to allow substrate rotation during OLED evaporation to improve the pixel yield and uniformity. The new integration technique is important for realizing active‐matrix OLED displays with a‐Si technology and conventional bottom‐anode OLEDs.  相似文献

The efficiency of neuronal encoding in sensory and motor systems has been proposed as a first principle governing response properties within the central nervous system. We present a continuation of a theoretical study presented by Zhang and Sejnowski, where the influence of neuronal tuning properties on encoding accuracy is analyzed using information theory. When a finite stimulus space is considered, we show that the encoding accuracy improves with narrow tuning for one- and two-dimensional stimuli. For three dimensions and higher, there is an optimal tuning width.  相似文献

A central feature of the evolution of large software systems is that change-which is necessary to add new functionality, accommodate new hardware, and repair faults-becomes increasingly difficult over time. We approach this phenomenon, which we term code decay, scientifically and statistically. We define code decay and propose a number of measurements (code decay indices) on software and on the organizations that produce it, that serve as symptoms, risk factors, and predictors of decay. Using an unusually rich data set (the fifteen-plus year change history of the millions of lines of software for a telephone switching system), we find mixed, but on the whole persuasive, statistical evidence of code decay, which is corroborated by developers of the code. Suggestive indications that perfective maintenance can retard code decay are also discussed  相似文献

We study stochastic stability of centralized Kalman filtering for linear time-varying systems equipped with wireless sensors. Transmission is over fading channels where variable channel gains are counteracted by power control to alleviate the effects of packet drops. We establish sufficient conditions for the expected value of the Kalman filter covariance matrix to be exponentially bounded in norm. The conditions obtained are then used to formulate stabilizing power control policies which minimize the total sensor power budget. In deriving the optimal power control laws, both statistical channel information and full channel information are considered. The effect of system instability on the power budget is also investigated for both these cases.  相似文献

Oily cold rolling mill (CRM) sludge contains lots of iron and alloying elements along with plenty of hazardous organic components, which makes it as an attractive secondary source and an environmental contaminant at the same time. The compound methods of "vacuum distillation + oxidizing roasting" and "vacuum distillation + hydrogen reduction" were employed for the recycle of oily cold rolling mill sludge. First, the sludge was dynamically vacuum distilled in a rotating furnace at 50 r/rain and 600℃ for 3 h, which removed almost hazardous organic components, obtaining 89.2wt% ferrous resultant. Then, high purity ferric oxide powders (99.2wt%) and reduced iron powders (98.9wt%) were obtained when the distillation residues were oxidized and reduced, respectively. The distillation oil can be used for fuel or chemical feedstock, and the distillation gases can be collected and reused as a fuel.  相似文献

The transient voltage response of ZrO2 oxygen sensors was examined following step changes in gas composition. The experiments were performed on a laboratory flow reactor at 600° C. Composition changes between (a) 100% and (b) 1% O2 in N2 produced response curves whose symmetry varied between composition steps (a) from low-to-high oxygen and (b) from high-to-low oxygen. This difference is due to the logarithmic dependence of sensor voltage on oxygen partial pressure. Corresponding oxygen partial pressure-time curves, derived from experimental voltage via the Nernst equation, are symmetric with respect to the direction of composition changes. Abrupt transitions are found in voltage-time curves at 600° C following step changes of reactive gases; e.g. from O2/N2 mixtures to CO/N2, H2/N2 or D2/N2 mixtures. These voltage-steps represent transitions in stoichiometry of the surface boundary layer on the ZrO2 sensor. Delay times before the transition also reflect reaction stoichiometry. Response times with O2/CO, O2/H2 and O2/D2 follow trends predicted by the kinetic theory of gases. A limited number of experiments were performed to examine the relationships between sensor response and sensor catalytic activity. Poorer oxidation catalytic activity parallels slower response characteristics.  相似文献

Most of the extraction processes developed for the polymetallic sea nodules concentrated mainly on the recovery of strategically important metals viz. Cu, Ni and Co. The residue generated in such processes is quite high enough to upset the environmental balance for industrial scale operation. The economics of the process too cannot be favourable if manganese in the residue is not recovered. In this study an attempt has been made to utilize this residue, containing appreciable amount of manganese (about 20%) for producing ferrosilicomanganese, an important ferroalloy primarily used for deoxidation in the steel industry, through smelting process. In order to have an alloy of standard grade, the residue is enriched in its manganese content, by blending it with ferromanganese slag. Bench scale studies indicate that it is possible to produce ferrosilicomanganese, of the grade required by the steel industry, by reduction smelting of the sea nodule residue with ferromanganese slag. Metal recovery, however, was less because of metal entrapment.  相似文献
