This study presents a novel approach for indirect integration of InAs nanowires on 2' Si substrates. We have investigated and developed epitaxial growth of InAs nanowires on 2' Si substrates via the introduction of a thin yet high-quality InAs epitaxial layer grown by metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy. We demonstrate well-aligned nanowire growth including precise position and diameter control across the full wafer using very thin epitaxial layers (<300 nm). Statistical analysis results performed on the grown nanowires across the 2' wafer size verifies our full control on the grown nanowire with 100% growth yield. From the crystallographic viewpoint, these InAs nanowires are predominantly of wurtzite structure. Furthermore, we show one possible device application of the aforementioned structure in vertical wrap-gated field-effect transistor geometry. The vertically aligned InAs nanowires are utilized as transistor channels and the InAs epitaxial layer is employed as the source contact. A high uniformity of the device characteristics for numerous transistors is further presented and RF characterization of these devices demonstrates an f(t) of 9.8 GHz.  相似文献

This paper reports a thorough microstructural characterization of glancing angle deposited (GLAD) TiO(2) thin films. Atomic force microscopy (afm), grazing-incidence small-angle x-ray scattering (GISAXS) and water adsorption isotherms have been used to determine the evolution of porosity and the existence of some correlation distances between the nanocolumns constituting the basic elements of the film's nanostructure. It is found that the deposition angle and, to a lesser extent, the film thickness are the most important parameters controlling properties of the thin film. The importance of porosity and some critical dimensions encountered in the investigated GLAD thin films is highlighted in relation to the analysis of their optical properties when utilized as antireflective coatings or as hosts and templates for the development of new composite materials.  相似文献

Seeds of Arabidopsis thaliana were exposed to hypergravity environments (2g and 6g) and germinated during centrifugation. Seedlings grew for 2 and 4 days before fixation. In all cases, comparisons were performed against an internal (subjected to rotational vibrations and other factors of the machine) and an external control at 1g. On seedlings grown in hypergravity the total length and the root length were measured. The cortical root meristematic cells were analyzed to investigate the alterations in cell proliferation, which were quantified by counting the number of cells per millimeter in the specific cell files, and cell growth, which were appraised through the rate of ribosome biogenesis, assessed by morphological and morphometrical parameters of the nucleolus. The expression of cyclin B1, a key regulator of entry in mitosis, was assessed by the use of a CYCB1:GUS genetic construction. The results showed significant differences in some of these parameters when comparing the 1g internal rotational control with the 1g external control, indicating that the machine by itself was a source of alterations. When the effect of hypergravity was isolated from other environmental factors, by comparing the experimental conditions with the rotational control, cell proliferation appeared depleted, cell growth was increased and there was an enhanced expression of cyclin B1. The functional meaning of these effects is that cell proliferation and cell growth, which are strictly associated functions under normal 1g ground conditions, are uncoupled under hypergravity. This uncoupling was also described by us in previous experiments as an effect of microgravity, but in an opposite way. Furthermore, root meristems appear thicker in hypergravity-treated than in control samples, which can be related to changes in the cell wall induced by altered gravity.  相似文献

Label-free detection of the material composition of nanoparticles could be enabled by the quantification of the nanoparticles' inherent dielectric response to an applied electric field. However, the sensitivity of dielectric nanoscale objects to geometric and non-local effects makes the dielectric response extremely weak. Here we show that electrostatic force microscopy with sub-piconewton resolution can resolve the dielectric constants of single dielectric nanoparticles without the need for any reference material, as well as distinguish nanoparticles that have an identical surface but different inner composition. We unambiguously identified unlabelled ~10 nm nanoparticles of similar morphology but different low-polarizable materials, and discriminated empty from DNA-containing virus capsids. Our approach should make the in situ characterization of nanoscale dielectrics and biological macromolecules possible.  相似文献

Mechanical complications of femoral catheterization for hemodialysis include pseudoaneurysm, arteriovenous fistulae, neurological injury, and vessel perforation. With regard to the latter, severe hemorrhage is a rare but devastating and potentially fatal complication. We report the case of a 76-year-old female who underwent femoral catheterization for hemodialysis using ultrasound guidance. The first hemodialysis session was conducted without incident. Unfortunately, inadvertent injury and delayed perforation of the iliac vein resulted in severe hemorrhage and retroperitoneal hematoma. Surgical repair was performed. The patient was asymptomatic after the procedure and was discharged 15 days later. Based on this case and a review of the literature, we present mechanisms and ways to prevent this complication.  相似文献

Bioactive glasses represent an interesting class of bone substitute's biomaterials. The present study investigated the repair of bone defects filled with a novel bioactive vitroceramic (Biosilicate(?)), alone or in association with particulate autogenous bone grafts in calvaria defects of rabbits. After 7, 14, and 30 days the specimens were retrieved for histological, histomorphometric and immunohistochemistry analysis. Satisfactory bone formation was observed in all groups, and direct bone-biomaterial surface was noted. Histomorphometric assessment did not show statistically significant differences in bone formation among the groups and periods, except for BG group at day 14. Immunoexpression of Runx-2 was similar among the groups containing the graft and the biomaterial, being more intense than in control group. Similar result was observed for VEGF expression, especially in the last experimental period. These results revealed that Biosilicate(?) presented a favorable behavior, comparable to autogenous bone graft.  相似文献

Cracking of concrete must be avoided during the hardening phase in order to minimize the risk of durability problems in the future, such as corrosion of the reinforcement, water tightness and damages due to frost. Estimation of the risk of early age cracking requires knowledge of the combined effects from temperature development and mechanical behaviour during the hydration. In the present paper, the influence of fly ash on the young concrete behaviour has been investigated. The concrete is based on a Swedish cement aimed for civil engineering structures, and the fly ash is of class F. A comparison of crack risks between concrete containing fly ash in different amounts with concrete without fly ash is presented. Also a previously tested concrete containing limestone filler is considered. The fly ash was added to replace a part of the aggregate, which gives a higher heat evolution. However, a numerical stress analysis showed that the risk for early age through cracking for a typical civil engineering structure is significantly decreased in the mixes containing fly ash. The denotation typical civil engineering structure is used here for concrete structures such as tunnels, bridges, and ramps of common cross-section dimensions. In the case of fly ash added to concrete by a partial replacement of cement, the crack risk will probably be further decreased. For a self-balancing structure of young concrete there is no restraint from adjacent structures, and the temperature and moisture gradients within the young concrete cause self-stresses governed by equilibrium with zero external forces for any cut. The estimated risk for surface cracking on a self-balancing wall or slab was not improved by an addition of fly ash. It is probably an effect of the increased heat development, which most likely counteracts the positive effect of the increased early age creep for concrete containing fly ash. If the heat evolution decreases when cement is partly replaced with fly ash, the use of fly ash might reduce the risk of surface cracks.  相似文献

There are dozens of studies made and ongoing related to wind integration. However, the results are not easy to compare. IEA WIND R&D Task 25 on ‘Design and Operation of Power Systems with Large Amounts of Wind Power’ collects and shares information on wind generation impacts on power systems, with analyses and guidelines on methodologies. In the state‐of‐the‐art report (October, 2007), and the final report of the 3 years period (July, 2009) the most relevant wind power grid integration studies have been analysed especially regarding methodologies and input data. Several issues that impact on the amount of wind power that can be integrated have been identified. Large balancing areas and aggregation benefits of wide areas help in reducing the variability and forecast errors of wind power as well as help in pooling more cost effective balancing resources. System operation and functioning electricity markets at less than day‐ahead time scales help reduce forecast errors of wind power. Transmission is the key to aggregation benefits, electricity markets and larger balancing areas. Best practices in wind integration studies are described. There is also benefit when adding wind power to power systems: it reduces the total operating costs and emissions as wind replaces fossil fuels and this should be highlighted more in future studies. Quantifying the quality of urban storm water is an important prerequisite to the effective management of urban runoff, which is recognized as the major nonpoint source of pollution in urban areas. Although data on urban storm-water quality are widely available, they are often based on relatively limited data sets, usually containing few samples per event and/or few events per catchment. This paper reports on a large scale monitoring of the key storm-water pollutants found in urban discharges during both wet and dry weather from seven urban catchments in South Eastern Australia. The catchments are all separately sewered (with wholly piped systems) with varying sizes and land uses. Using the same monitoring technique, between 16 and 52 pollutographs were captured at each site for total suspended solid (TSS), total phosphorus, and total nitrogen (TN), while event mean concentrations (EMCs) of heavy metals and major ions, as well as species of N and P, were recorded at a subset of sites. It was found that EMCs of TSS were around 50% less than have been typically reported in earlier literature. During wet weather, nutrients were similar to previously reported, as were most metals concentrations. However, zinc concentrations were significantly higher than previously reported. EMCs of TSS were higher during storm flows than in baseflow, while TN concentrations were consistently higher during baseflow. EMCs of all pollutants monitored were poor with simple hydrological parameters (e.g., event rainfall depth); however, event pollution loads correlated very well with the rainfall intensity to a power, summed over the event duration. It was not possible to distinguish an impact of land use on pollutant concentrations. The first-flush effect was found not to be significant at all sites except the smallest catchment with the simplest drainage layout (the roof of a large building). All these findings have significant implication for treatment strategies with the significantly lower than previously observed TSS requiring consideration in future modeling and treatment design.  相似文献

The web benchmarking systems broadly used in the construction industry (CI) are designed to provide results based on key performance indicators (KPIs). No insights concerning organization overall performance and improvements targets are available. This research aims to fulfill this gap using data envelopment analysis (DEA) as a method to complement the information provided by a set of KPIs. The methodology proposed is useful to all organizations involved in benchmarking routines. To enable a more realistic assessment of CI companies, two types of DEA models were used, one allows factor weights to vary freely and the other includes weight restrictions. These models assign an efficiency score to each organization, identifying efficient organizations and providing performance improvements targets for the others. To enable suggesting targets for all organizations, expert opinion was used to specify virtual units which were included in the efficiency assessment to define a practical frontier located beyond the productivity levels of the original DEA frontier. Based on a sample of 20 Portuguese leading contractors, the Portuguese web benchmarking system for CI, icBench, was used to demonstrate the advantages of integrating the DEA method with KPIs benchmark scores.  相似文献
