Formaldehyde is used in ruminant feeding for different purposes including the protection of dietary proteins from ruminal degradation. The formaldehyde content of milk of goats fed various levels of formaldehyde-treated soybean oil-meal has been determined by using a sensitive HPLC method. Results showed a significant linear correlation between ingested formaldehyde and formaldehyde concentration in milk. About 0.02% of ingested formaldehyde was excreted in milk, as free formaldehyde. 相似文献

This paper investigates the effect of chelating agents on the bioavailability of Fe and Cu during anaerobic digestion. The results on metal speciation and methane production in anaerobic serum bottles showed that biomass was able to grow in the presence of citrate 1?mM and nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) 1?mM, suggesting that the binding sites at the cell surface competed efficiently for the metals with the chelating agents added. The presence of free ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid 1?mM inhibited methanogenesis, and this seemed to be related to a loss in metal uptake capacity. Although the addition of soluble microbial products (SMP) did not change metal distribution in anaerobic systems, it caused an increase in the rate of methane production, and it is believed that direct uptake of Cu-SMP complexes was responsible for this increase. The best protection against Cu toxicity occurred when stoichiometric amounts of NTA, which should complex and solubilize most of the Cu, was added, and it is likely that NTA prevented lethal concentrations of Cu from being adsorbed onto the cell and hence internalized. 相似文献

New functionalized styrene–maleimide copolymers were prepared by free radical copolymerization of styrene (St) and N‐4‐carboxybutylmaleimide (NBMI) in chloroform, using 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator. Monomer and copolymer characterization was carried out by 1H‐ and 13C‐NMR. Copolymer composition was determined by elemental analysis and Fourier‐transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The glass transition temperature (from DSC) and the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of the copolymers were consistent with the thermal behavior and stability observed for alternating St–maleimide copolymers. St–NBMI copolymers crosslinked with divinylbenzene (DVB) were also synthesized and their cation exchange properties evaluated in order to assess the capacity of the new copolymers to bind metallic ions. A fluidized bed bioreactor (FBBR) was operated for more than 575 days to remove 2,4,6‐trichlorophenol (TCP) and phenol (Phe) from a synthetic toxic wastewater containing 80 mg L?1 of TCP and 20 mg L?1 of Phe under two regimes: Methanogenic (M) and Partially‐Aerated Methanogenic (PAM). The mesophilic, laboratory‐scale FBBR consisted of a glass column (3 L capacity) loaded with 1 L of 1 mm diameter granular activated carbon colonized by an anaerobic consortium. Sucrose (1 g COD L?1) was used as co‐substrate in the two conditions. The hydraulic residence time was kept constant at 1 day. Both conditions showed similar TCP and Phe removal (99.9 + %); nevertheless, in the Methanogenic regime, the accumulation of 4‐chlorophenol (4CP) up to 16 mg L?1 and phenol up to 4 mg L?1 was observed, whereas in PAM conditions 4CP and other intermediates were not detected. The specific methanogenic activity of biomass decreased from 1.01 ± 0.14 in M conditions to 0.19 ± 0.06 mmolCH4 h?1 gTKN?1 in PAM conditions whereas the specific oxygen uptake rate increased from 0.039 ± 0.008 in M conditions to 0.054 ± 0.012 mmolO2 h?1 gTKN?1, which suggested the co‐existence of both methanogenic archaea and aerobic bacteria in the undefined consortium. The advantage of the PAM condition over the M regime is that it provides for the thorough removal of less‐substituted chlorophenols produced by the reductive dehalogenation of TCP rather than the removal of the parent compound itself. The mechanisms that control lipolysis in intra-abdominal fat cells from various primate species, the marmoset (Callithrix jacchus), the baboon (Papio papio), and the macaque (Macaca fascicularis), were compared to those of human intraabdominal fat cells. Selective beta 1- or beta 2-adrenoceptor agonists induced lipolysis in all species. Selective beta 3-agonists (BRL 37344, CL 316243, and SR 58611) acted as partial agonists in marmoset but were inefficient in other primates, including humans. alpha 2-Adrenoceptor number ([3H]RX 8210002 binding) equalized (baboon) or exceeded (other primates) beta 1/beta 2-adrenoceptors ([3H]CGP 12177 binding). Baboon fat cell membranes expressed similar amounts of coupled beta- and alpha 2-adrenoceptors. In all species, norepinephrine- or epinephrine-induced lipolysis did not reach the lipolytic effect of isoproterenol but their effects were enhanced after alpha 2-adrenoceptor blockade. N6-phenylisopropyladenosine (PIA) induced a full antilipolytic effect in baboon, macaque, and human adipocytes through adenosine receptors ([3H]DPCPX binding). Peptide YY (PYY) weakly inhibited lipolysis in baboon. Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) was inactive whereas parathyroid hormone (PTH) partially stimulated lipolysis in primates. Histamine was partially lipolytic in marmoset only. This study emphasizes the similarities of the mechanisms controlling the lipolysis in nonhuman primate and in human adipocytes and suggests that the baboon and the macaque should provide unique models for the study of the regulation of lipolysis. 相似文献
