We propose a practical solution method for real-world instances of a water-network optimization problem with fixed topology using a nonconvex continuous NLP (NonLinear Programming) relaxation and a MINLP (Mixed Integer NonLinear Programming) search. Our approach employs a relatively simple and accurate model that pays some attention to the requirements of the solvers that we employ. Our view is that in doing so, with the goal of calculating only good feasible solutions, complicated algorithmics can be confined to the MINLP solver. We report successful computational experience using available open-source MINLP software on problems from the literature and on difficult real-world instances. An important contribution of this paper is that the solutions obtained, besides being low cost, are immediately usable in practice because they are characterized by an allocation of diameters to pipes that leads to a correct hydraulic operation of the network. This is not the case for most of the other methods presented in the literature.  相似文献

In this study, core–shell rubber (CSR) nanoparticles with approximate particle size of 35 nm were used as a modifier for the epoxy polymer. The effects of various CSR contents in the epoxy matrix on mode I interlaminar fracture toughness, tensile strength, and fatigue life of the carbon fabric reinforced epoxy (CF/EP) composites were investigated. The experimental results showed that the mode I interlaminar fracture toughness at crack initiation and propagation significantly improved by 71.21 and 58.47 %, respectively, when 8.0 wt% CSR was dispersed in the epoxy matrix. The fatigue life of the modified CF/EP composites at all of CSR contents dramatically increased 75–100 times longer than that of the unmodified CF/EP composites at high cycle fatigue while tensile strength slightly increased by about 10 %. Field emission scanning electron microcopy (FESEM) observations of the fracture surfaces were conducted to explain failure mechanisms of CSR addition to the CF/EP composites. The evidences of the rubber nanoparticle debonding, plastic void growth, and microshear banding were credited for delaying the onset of matrix crack, and reducing the crack growth rate, as a result, attributed to increase in the mechanical properties of the CF/EP composites.  相似文献

A three-layered composite fibre has been generated via a modified wire-coating melt co-extrusion process. The continuous fibre consists of a thermochromic liquid crystalline (TLC) layer encapsulated between a transparent polypropylene outer sheath and a black polyether ether ketone inner core. The fibres exhibit clear thermochromic behaviour consistent with the behaviour of unincorporated TLCs, and have been formed into a textile. The presence of the black inner core was found to be the key for the clear retention of colour within the fibres against both white and black backgrounds. The temperature-sensitive fibres and textiles can be applied to a variety of thermal mapping applications, such as in the medical and engineering fields, due to the tunable nature of TLCs.  相似文献

The results of an experimental investigation on epoxy-joined CVD SiC and alumina tested in shear and apparent shear mode by four different configurations are presented. Ceramics have been joined by an epoxy adhesive (AV119), which is not to be considered as the final joining material for high temperature applications, but just as a model brittle joining material chosen to obtain several joined samples in a reasonable time. Advantages and disadvantages of each configuration are discussed and compared to results obtained with the same epoxy-joined carbon/carbon composites, tested by the same shear tests.  相似文献

Pathogenesis of amyloid-related diseases is associated with the presence of protein amyloid deposits. Insulin amyloids have been reported in a patient with diabetes undergoing treatment by injection of insulin and causes problems in the production and storage of this drug and in pplication of insulin pumps. We have studied the interference of insulin amyloid fibrils with a series of 18 albumin magnetic fluids (MFBSAs) consisting of magnetite nanoparticles modified by different amounts of bovine serum albumin (w/w BSA/Fe?O? from 0.005 up to 15). We have found that MFBSAs are able to destroy amyloid fibrils in vitro. The extent of fibril depolymerization was affected by nanoparticle physical-chemical properties (hydrodynamic diameter, zeta potential and isoelectric point) determined by the BSA amount present in MFBSAs. The most effective were MFBSAs with lower BSA/Fe?O? ratios (from 0.005 to 0.1) characteristic of about 90% depolymerizing activity. For the most active magnetic fluids (ratios 0.01 and 0.02) the DC50 values were determined in the range of low concentrations, indicating their ability to interfere with insulin fibrils at stoichiometric concentrations. We assume that the present findings represent a starting point for the application of the active MFBSAs as therapeutic agents targeting insulin amyloidosis.  相似文献

International and National Building Codes provide requirements for design and construction of new masonry structures, but design provisions for the repair, retrofitting, and rehabilitation of masonry structures are not always available and included in the same documents. Due to the extremely large variability in masonry performances, equations of general validity cannot often be provided, namely relationships suitable for every masonry type. Despite the great research effort in the experimental field, considerable theoretical work is still needed to fully outline a definitive analytical model to predict the behavior of FRP confined masonry. Most of the available models, empirical in nature, have been calibrated against their own sets of experimental data, or they are simply derived from concrete. Even if large amount of results obtained for concrete led to consolidated design guidelines, they cannot be simply extended to masonry. In this study, a mechanically based confinement model is proposed based on mechanical parameters able to differentiate similar masonry types and to highlight that they present different confinement performance. Crucial aspects of masonry confinement will be also discussed, namely: lateral dilation; confinement effectiveness; lateral pressure also in non-circular shapes; effective strain of FRP.  相似文献

Mn-doped TiO(2) nanocrystals encapsulated in a carbon layer (Ti(1-x)Mn(x)O(2)@C) were synthesized by the one-pot RAPET (reaction under autogenic pressure at elevated temperature) technique. Manganese was doped into the body-centered tetragonal TiO(2) anatase phase to give a Mn:Ti atomic ratio of 1%, 5% and 10%. The surface modification by carbon was achieved in order to make the cubic/tetragonal nanocrystals non-toxic and biocompatible. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies revealed a broad resonance (centered at g = 1.9977 due to the interacting spins in the oxide matrix) with increased dopant concentration and the resonance due to carbon. Manganese is mainly present as +II or +III oxidation states. The magnetic behavior was found to be very dependent on the manganese concentration with a ferromagnetic behavior of the 1% doped sample due to the coupling between carriers and manganese spins. A predominant paramagnetic behavior was observed for the higher Mn-doped samples. This study opens up a new dimension for the carbon encapsulation of room-temperature ferromagnetic diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) nanomaterials.  相似文献

AlGaN/GaN heterostructure field effect transistors (HFETs) were irradiated with protons as well as carbon, oxygen, iron and krypton ions of high (68 and 120 MeV) and low (2 MeV) energy with fluences in the range from 1 × 107 to 1 × 1013 cm?2. High energy irradiation with protons, carbon and oxygen produced no degradation in devices while krypton irradiation at the fluence of 1 × 1010 cm?2 resulted in a small reduction of 2% in the transconductance. Similarly, for GaN samples irradiated with protons, carbon and oxygen at high energy no changes were seen by XRD, PL and Hall effect, while changes in lattice constant and a reduction in PL intensity were observed after irradiation with high energy krypton. Low energy irradiation with carbon and oxygen at a fluence of 5 × 1010 cm?2 results in small change in the device performance while remarkable changes in device characteristics are seen at a fluence of 1 × 1012 cm?2 for carbon, oxygen, iron and krypton irradiation. Similarly changes are also observed by XRD, PL and Hall effect for the thick GaN layer irradiated at the fluence of 1 × 1012 cm?2. The device results and GaN layer properties are strongly correlated.  相似文献

Nanotechnology-introduced materials have promising applications as nanocarriers for drugs, peptides, proteins and nucleic acids. Several studies showed that the geometry (shape and size) and chemical properties of nanoparticles affect the kinetics and pathways of cellular uptake and their intracellular trafficking and signaling. Accurate physico-chemical characterization of nanoparticles customarily precedes their use in cell biology and in vivo experiments. However, a fact that is easily overlooked is that nanomaterials decorated with organic matter or resuspended in aqueous buffers can be theoretically contaminated by fungal and bacterial microorganisms. While investigating the effects of extensively characterized PEGylated carbon nanotubes (PNTs) on T lymphocyte activation, we demonstrated bacterial contamination of PNTs, which correlated with low reproducibility and artifacts in cell signaling assays. Contamination and artifacts were easily eliminated by preparing the materials in sterile conditions. We propose that simple sterile preparation procedures should be adopted and sterility evaluation of nanoparticles should be customarily performed, prior to assessing nanoparticle intracellular internalization, trafficking and their effects on cells and entire organisms.  相似文献
