Close study is devoted to the order-parameter fluctuations. When the temperature approaches the lambda-point temperature the magnitude of these fluctuations increases, leading to the divergence in the specific heat. When, on the other hand, the liquid helium is confined between parallel solid plates, the growth of the fluctuations is impeded and the divergence in the specific heat is suppressed. By an extension of the epsilon expansion to three-dimensional space we find good agreement between our calculation of the effect of confinement and the data from both earth-based and space experiments.  相似文献

The large volume of mail and the increased cost of handling it has made postal automation an important domain for pattern recognition and computer vision research. A substantial amount of work is being done to design an automatic mail sorting system which can read and interpret the destination address on a mail piece and direct it to the appropriate bin. Robust optical character recognition (OCR) systems are now available which can read printed characters with great accuracy (> 99%). But, in order to read the destination address, the region in the image containing the address must first be located. Even though several approaches to address block location have been proposed in the literature, it remains a difficult problem. A simple method is presented for automatically identifying regions in envelope images which are candidates for being the destination address. The envelope image is considered to contain different textured regions, one of which corresponds to the text-content in the image. Thus, a texture-based segmentation method is used to identify the regions of text in the image. The method for texture discrimination is based on Gabor filters which have been successfully used earlier for a variety of texture classification and segmentation tasks. It is shown that only a small number of even-symmetric Gabor filters are needed in this application. The success of the texture-based segmentation algorithm for identifying address blocks is demonstrated on a number of test images. These results also demonstrate the invariance of the method to the orientation of text in the envelope image and the variations in the size and font of the text.  相似文献

A submillimeter laser Stark spectrum has been observed for fully deuterated Methyl Chloride (CD3Cl) with the 337 μm line of the HCN laser up to Stark fields of about 54000 V/cm. The spectra were taken for both Parallel and Perpendicular Polarizations and the multiplet transitions were identified as JK=42K←41K in the ground vibrational state. Three families with K=12, 13 and 14 have been identified and their zero field frequencies have been given with improved accuracy over those calculated from available molecular constants.  相似文献

The contract net protocol (CNP) is a widely used coordination mechanism in multiagent systems. It has a lot of communication overhead due to the broadcast of the task announcements. The performance of the CNP degrades drastically when the number of communicating agents and the number of tasks announced increases. Hence, it has problems of scalability. In order to overcome this limitation, an instance-based learning (IBL) mechanism is designed that uses previously stored instances in order to select a target agent. This avoids the expensive bidding process. The scheme is implemented in a simulated distributed hospital system where the CNP is used for resource sharing across hospitals. Experimental results demonstrate that with the incorporation of the IBL, the system performance improves significantly. The system is better scalable with respect to the number of tasks.  相似文献

We report on a cross-sectional high resolution transmission electron microscope study of lead sulfide nanocrystal quantum dots (NCQDs) dispersed on electron-transparent silicon nanopillars that enables nearly atomically-resolved simultaneous imaging of the entire composite: the quantum dot, the interfacial region, and the silicon substrate. Considerable richness in the nanocrystal shape and orientation with respect to the substrate lattice is observed. The average NCQD-substrate separation is found to be significantly smaller than the length of the ligands on the NCQDs. Complementary photoluminescence measurements show that light emission from PbS NCQDs on silicon is effectively quenched which we attribute to intrinsic mechanisms of energy and charge transfer from PbS NCQDs to Si.  相似文献

This article reports the environmentally benign synthesis of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) using methanol extract of Azolla microphylla as the stabilizing and reducing agent. The GNPs were characterized by UV-vis spectrophotometry and FTIR, and the morphological characteristics were analyzed by XRD, FESEM-EDX and HRTEM. The GNPs could be formed in very short time, even in less than 30 min. The nanoparticles measured by UV-spectrophotometer demonstrated a peak at 540 nm corresponding to surface plasmon resonance spectra, and the peaks showed by FTIR suggested the presence of organic biomolecules on the surface of the GNPs. XRD results confirmed the crystalline nature of the GNPs, and FESEM-EDX and HRTEM analyses had been performed in the size ranges of 17-40nm and 1.25-17.5nm respectively. The synthesized GNPs showed excellent antioxidant activity. This study shows the feasibility of using plant sources for the biosynthesis of GNPs.  相似文献
