We have disrupted seven open reading frames (ORFs) located in the left arm of chromosome XV of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. These ORFs, previously discovered by our laboratory during the programme of systematic sequencing of the yeast genome, are YOL152w, YOL151w, YOL149w, YOL130w, YOL128c, YOL125w and YOL124c. In most cases, the short flanking homology (SFH) replacement technique has been used. The mutants were analysed for different phenotypic tests. Disruption of YOL130w (also known as ALR1) produced a lethal phenotype, despite the presence of a highly similar gene in the yeast genome (ALR2/YFL050C). Disruption of YOL149w (also known as DCP1, and encoding an mRNA decapping enzyme) results in lethality in the FY1679 background, although it allows slow growth in the CEN.PK141 background. Disruption of the remaining ORFs did not result in readily detectable phenotypic changes.  相似文献

Arterial compliance is an important component of ventricular afterload. Although its pressure dependence has been recognized, its temporal relationship to ventricular elastance (Elv(t)) has not been established. We investigated this in five open chest anesthetized dogs where simultaneous aortic pressure and flow and left ventricular pressure were measured. Elv(t) was derived using an elastance-resistance model of the left ventricle assuming an ejection fraction of 0.50 and a dead volume (Vd) of 3.0 mL. The nonlinear pressure-dependent compliance (C(P)) of the arterial system was incorporated in a three-element Windkessel model and determined by accurate prediction of aortic pressure from aortic flow. The resulting arterial elastance (Eas(t)) was computed as Eas(t) = 1/C(P). Results show that Eas(t) reaches a minimum value at or near the start of ventricular ejection and attains its peak value at or near the same time maximum LV elastance (Emax) is reached, at end-systole. Finally, numerical simulation of the model demonstrates its ability to adequately reproduce measured pressure and flow. Thus, the arterial system, in terms of elastance, is dynamically and temporally coupled to the left-ventricle during ejection.  相似文献

Photoreflectance (PR) measurements were performed on specific structures grown by molecular-beam epitaxy on different substrate orientations: 111B, 111B 2° off, 111A and 100. A strained In0.2Ga0.8As quantum well was grown in the space charge layer of an undoped GaAs layer. On a polar substrate orientation 111, the strain-induced piezoelectric field in the quantum well modifies the field in the space charge layer. PR spectra recorded in such structures exhibit Franz Keldysh oscillations from which we can measure the internal electric field. The piezoelectric field is then deduced from a comparison between two structures differing only by the presence of the strained quantum well. Experimental values ranged between 110 kV/cm and 150 kV/cm, and were used to determine experimentally the piezoelectric constant e14 in In0.2Ga0.8As.  相似文献

The influence of scattering and two-photon absorption on the optical loss in GaAs-Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ semiconductor nonlinear waveguides has been studied using femtosecond pulses. By deploying a scattering technique, loss coefficients were evaluated over an extended wavelength range of 1.3-2.1 /spl mu/m in the near-infrared. A systematic study involving intensity and wavelength dependence of the loss revealed the presence of two-photon absorption for wavelengths below 1.6 /spl mu/m. A simple nonlinear transmission study enabled the separation of the two-photon absorption coefficient from scattering and linear absorption. The calculated two-photon absorption coefficients were /spl sim/9-20 cm/GW.  相似文献

Here, it is shown how carrier recombination through charge transfer excitons between conjugated polymers and fullerene molecules is mainly controlled by the intrachain conformation of the polymer, and to a limited extent by the mesoscopic morphology of the blend. This experimental result is obtained by combining near‐infrared photoluminescence spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy, which are sensitive to charge transfer exciton emission and morphology, respectively. The photoluminescence intensity of the charge transfer exciton is correlated to the degree of intrachain order of the polymer, highlighting an important aspect for understanding and limiting carrier recombination in organic photovoltaics.  相似文献

The influence of the type of backsheet on the electrical performance of test modules was evaluated before and after increasing time of accelerated ageing (damp heat [DH] exposure). Besides the measurement of the electrical power of the modules and the performance of the cells by electroluminescence, the ageing‐induced changes within the polymeric encapsulate and backsheets were investigated by means of vibrational spectroscopy and by thermo analytical methods. In addition, the permeability of the backsheets in the original and aged state was determined. This wide set of test parameters and methods allowed for the detection of correlations between (i) physical and chemical properties as well as their ageing‐induced changes of the materials and (ii) the module performance. A clear dependence of the relative loss in power output upon exposure under DH conditions for 2000 h could be observed for a set of identical test modules varied in composition only in the type of back cover used. While the modules containing gas‐tight backsheets and glass experienced only little loss in the relative power output, some modules with permeable backsheets showed a significant relative decrease in the power output and fill factor in dependence of the backsheet type used. Cell degradation could be visualised by recording electroluminescence images before and after the accelerated ageing test. The permeation properties of the backsheet used and their ageing‐induced changes seem to have an influence on the module performance. However, the absolute values neither of the water vapour transmission rate (WVTR) nor of the oxygen transmission rate (OTR) are directly linked to the loss in power output upon accelerated ageing under DH conditions. It could be shown that the ageing‐induced changes (relative transmission rates) between WVTR and OTR can be correlated with the module performance. These ageing‐induced changes in the permeation behaviour of the backsheets can be explained by (i) physical changes (e.g. post‐crystallisation, changes in the crystal structure or the crystalline microstructure) and (ii) chemical ageing effects such as a decrease in the molecular mass of the polyester (PET) polymer chains because of hydrolytic polymer degradation leading to a change in the crystallisation behaviour of PET. Hydrolytic degradation (= chemical ageing) of the PET core layer was observed (with varying extent) for all PET‐based backsheets and can, thus, not be directly correlated with the loss in performance of the corresponding test modules. The physical ageing effects, however, were detected only for those backsheets showing (i) strong deviating changes in the relative permeation rates for oxygen and water vapour upon accelerated ageing and (ii) a clear loss in electrical performance. In this article we review an important class of wireless cooperation protocols known as amplify-and-forward relaying. One or more low-complexity relay nodes assist the communication between sources and destinations without having to decode the signal. This makes AF relaying transparent to modulation and coding of the source/destination communication protocol. It is therefore a highly flexible technology that also qualifies for application in heterogeneous networks comprising many nodes of different complexity or even standards. Recently, two-way relaying was introduced, which is readily combined with AF relaying. It is a spectrally efficient protocol that allows for bidirectional communication between sources and destinations. In order to investigate the potential of wireless AF relaying, we introduce three distributed network scenarios that differ in the amount of cooperation between nodes. New challenges arise in those networks, and we discuss approaches to overcome them. For the most general case of a completely distributed system, we present coherent relaying solutions that offer a distributed spatial multiplexing gain even for single-antenna nodes. Based on real-world experiments, we validate the feasibility of all schemes in our laboratory.  相似文献

An Efficient Algorithm for Spectral Analysis of Heart Rate Variability   总被引:21,自引:0,他引:21  
We present a simple efficient algorithm for the derivation of a heart rate signal from the electrocardiogram. We demonstrate that the amplitude spectrum of this heart rate signal more closely matches that of the input signal to an integral pulse frequency modulation (IPFM) model of the heart's pacemaker than do the spectra of other ECG-derived heart rate signals. The applicability of this algorithm in cross-spectral analysis between heart rate and other physiologic signals is also discussed.  相似文献

We derive upper and lower bounds to the curve of expected delay versus throughput for the delay-enhanced version of the celebrated 0.487 multiple access contention resolution algorithm. The key to the derivation is a technique for generating upper and lower bounds to monotonic functions of the transmission lag via corresponding bounds on the kernel of the integral equation for the distribution of said lag. The separation between the upper and lower bounds is small, and the results agree well with simulations.  相似文献
