This paper presents a quantitative methodology to determine financial impacts of the risk factors during the bidding stages of international construction projects. Project and country data of 26 construction projects from 21 countries were collected for evaluation of the international risk factors. The factors impacting cost contingency were identified using correlation and regression analysis techniques. The results indicated that four factors had major contributions for explaining the variations in the contingency levels. A regression model including the significant factors was developed to support bidding contingency decisions. The methodology presented provides a robust and practical statistical approach for determination of contingency by focusing on important risk factors. Details regarding model development and validation are presented along with a discussion on study limitations. 相似文献

Food wastage is a critical and world-wide issue resulting from an excess of food supply, poor food storage, poor marketing, and unstable markets. Since food quality depends on consumer standards, it becomes necessary to monitor the quality to ensure it meets those standards. Embedding sensors with active nanomaterials in food packaging enables customers to monitor the quality of their food in real-time. Though there are many different sensors that can monitor food quality and safety, pH sensors and time-temperature indicators (TTIs) are the most critical metrics in indicating quality. This review showcases some of the recent progress, their importance, preconditions, and the various future needs of pH sensors and TTIs in food packaging for smart sensors in food packaging applications. In discussing these topics, this review includes the materials used to make these sensors, which vary from polymers, metals, metal-oxides, carbon-based materials; and their modes of fabrication, ranging from thin or thick film deposition methods, solution-based chemistry, and electrodeposition. By discussing the use of these materials, novel fabrication process, and problems for the two sensors, this review offers solutions to a brighter future for the use of nanomaterials for pH indicator and TTIs in food packaging applications. 相似文献

A conventional automatic fingerprint matching process uses similarity score to quantify similarity between fingerprint images to be matched, and the similarity score can be determined with a minutiae extraction algorithm (MEA) which extracts minutiae from fingerprint images. The performance of MEA relies on the quality of fingerprint images. In case of blurred fingerprint images, it becomes difficult to obtain a reliable similarity score. As the result, an image enhancement algorithm should be incorporated with MEA when the fingerprint image is blurred. In this study, Volterra filter is proposed to enhance blurred fingerprints and compared against different enhancement algorithms. Experimental results show that Volterra filter outperforms other techniques such as Laplacian, Wiener, and Gabor filters for enhancing blurred images and its calculation complexity is moderate among techniques considered in this study. 相似文献

TiO2 films of varying thicknesses (up to ≈1.0 µm) with vertically oriented, accessible 7–9 nm nanopores are synthesized using an evaporation‐induced self‐assembly layer‐by‐layer technique. The hypothesis behind the approach is that epitaxial alignment of hydrophobic blocks of surfactant templates induces a consistent, accessible mesophase orientation across a multilayer film, ultimately leading to continuous, vertically aligned pore channels. Characterization using grazing incidence X‐ray scattering, scanning electron microscopy, and impedance spectroscopy indicates that the pores are oriented vertically even in relatively thick films (up to 1 µm). These films contain a combination of amorphous and nanocrystalline anatase titania of value for electrochemical energy storage. When applied as negative electrodes in lithium‐ion batteries, a capacity of 254 mAh g?1 is obtained after 200 cycles for a single‐layer TiO2 film prepared on modified substrate, higher than on unmodified substrate or nonporous TiO2 film, due to the high accessibility of the vertically oriented channels in the films. Thicker films on modified substrate have increased absolute capacity because of higher mass loading but a reduced specific capacity because of transport limitations. These results suggest that the multilayer epitaxial approach is a viable way to prepare high capacity TiO2 films with vertically oriented continuous nanopores. 相似文献

In this paper, we undertake a parametric study to investigate how varying reference temperature from 0 to 25 °C will affect the energy and exergy efficiencies of the Balcova geothermal district heating system (BGDHS) and develop two significant correlations (with a correlation coefficient of 0.99) that can be used for predicting the efficiencies. The exergy losses in the overall BGDHS are quantified and illustrated using exergy flow diagram particularly for a reference temperature of 11.4 °C for comparison purposes. This reference temperature is taken as an average value of the ambient temperatures measured during the past 5 years for the day of 2nd January to reflect the actual situation. The results show that the exergy losses within the system occur mainly due to the losses in pumps, heat exchangers, reinjection sections of the geothermal water back into reservoir and pipeline, and account for 1.75%, 8.84%, 14.20%, and 28.69%, respectively. In addition, we study energy and exergy efficiencies to determine the possibilities to improve the system, and energy and exergy efficiencies of the system are found to be 42.36% and 46.55%, respectively, for 2nd January 2004. 相似文献

This paper deals with the performance evaluation of a single layer drying process of green olives in a tray dryer using exergy analysis method. Green olive was used as the test material being dried. Drying process was realized at four different drying air temperatures (40, 50, 60 and 70 °C) and a constant relative humidity of 15%. The effects of temperatures and mass flow rates were investigated. Maximum exergy efficiency of the drying chamber was obtained at a temperature of 70 °C and a drying air mass flow rate of 0.015 kg/s with 0.0004 kg/s of olive. The exergy efficiency values were found to be in the range of 68.65%–91.79% from 40 °C to 70 °C with drying air mass flow rates of 0.01 kg/s–0.015 kg/s. 相似文献

We demonstrate the temperature mediated applications of a previously proposed novel localized dielectric heating method on the surface of dual purpose silicon field effect transistor (FET) sensor-heaters and perform modeling and characterization of the underlying mechanisms. The FETs are first shown to operate as electrical sensors via sensitivity to changes in pH in ionic fluids. The same devices are then demonstrated as highly localized heaters via investigation of experimental heating profiles and comparison to simulation results. These results offer further insight into the heating mechanism and help determine the spatial resolution of the technique. Two important biosensor platform applications spanning different temperature ranges are then demonstrated: a localized heat-mediated DNA exchange reaction and a method for dense selective functionalization of probe molecules via the heat catalyzed complete desorption and reattachment of chemical functionalization to the transistor surfaces. Our results show that the use of silicon transistors can be extended beyond electrical switching and field-effect sensing to performing localized temperature controlled chemical reactions on the transistor itself. 相似文献

We aimed to evaluate the long-term effect of hemodialysis (HD) treatment on left and right ventricular (LV and RV) functions in patients with end-stage renal disease. The study population consisted of 22 patients with newly diagnosed end-stage renal disease. Before an arteriovenous fistula was surgically created for HD, the patients were evaluated by echocardiography for systolic and diastolic functions. After the first HD session (mean 24.22 ± 2.14 months), the second echocardiographic evaluations were performed. Left ventricular and RV functions before and after long-term HD treatment were compared. The mean age was 55 ± 13 years and 10 (45%) of the patients were female. After long-term HD treatment, the isovolumic relaxation time was significantly decreased; however, the peak early (E) and late (A) diastolic mitral inflow velocities, E/A ratio, and deceleration time of E wave were not significantly different from the baseline measurements. Also, there was no significantly change in the early diastolic velocity (Ea) of the lateral mitral anulus and the E/Ea ratio. Pulmonary vein peak diastolic velocity, peak atrial reversal velocity, and peak atrial reversal velocity duration remained almost unchanged even though the pulmonary vein peak systolic velocity and the pulmonary vein peak systolic velocity/pulmonary vein peak diastolic velocity ratio were significantly lower after long-term HD treatment. In addition, LV systolic functions, LV diameters, LV mass index, left atrium size, and RV diastolic functions were not statistically different after long-term HD treatment. The myocardium is exposed to hemodynamic, metabolic, and neuro-humoral abnormalities during HD treatment; however, the long-term effects of HD on ventricular functions are not clearly known. The present study showed that the long-term effects of HD on LV and RV functions were insignificant in patients with end-stage renal disease. We have demonstrated that the LV and RV functions did not change significantly after long-term HD treatment. We suggest that this result may be due to regulated blood pressure levels of the patients, treatment of anemia and other metabolic disorders during the HD period and the prevention of weight gain and hypervolemia. 相似文献
