Multiple exciton generation (MEG) in PbSe quantum dots (QDs), PbSe(x)S(1-x) alloy QDs, PbSe/PbS core/shell QDs, and PbSe/PbSe(y)S(1-y) core/alloy-shell QDs was studied with time-resolved optical pump and probe spectroscopy. The optical absorption exhibits a red-shift upon the introduction of a shell around a PbSe core, which increases with the thickness of the shell. According to electronic structure calculations this can be attributed to charge delocalization into the shell. Remarkably, the measured quantum yield of MEG, the hot exciton cooling rate, and the Auger recombination rate of biexcitons are similar for pure PbSe QDs and core/shell QDs with the same core size and varying shell thickness. The higher density of states in the alloy and core/shell QDs provide a faster exciton cooling channel that likely competes with the fast MEG process due to a higher biexciton density of states. Calculations reveal only a minor asymmetric delocalization of holes and electrons over the entire core/shell volume, which may partially explain why the Auger recombination rate does not depend on the presence of a shell.  相似文献

We present a real-time abdominal recording method for the FECG based on a minimization procedure for the MECG interference, by weighted addition of four abdominal leads containing FECG with a large amount of MECG. The minimization of the MECG does not influence the FECG recording adversely. FECG complexes coinciding with MECG complexes are also recorded. Use is made of programmable amplifiers that multiply analog abdominal leads by digital coefficients. These coefficients are calculated at the beginning of the recording by a microcomputer system. Experimental results are shown that clarify the advantages of the measurement principle. The real-time recorded FECG is wide-banded, so that all generally known ECG signal processing techniques, such as complex averaging, can be performed.  相似文献

Ship unloader grabs are usually designed using the manufacturer’s in-house knowledge based on a traditional physical prototyping approach. The grab performance depends greatly on the properties of the bulk material being handled. By considering the bulk cargo variability in the design process, the grab performance can be improved significantly. A multi-objective simulation-based optimization framework is therefore established to include bulk cargo variability in the design process of grabs. The primary objective is to reach a maximized and consistent performance in handling a variety of iron ore cargoes. First, a range of bulk materials is created by varying levels of cohesive forces and plasticity in the elasto-plastic adhesive DEM contact model. The sensitivity analysis of the grabbing process to the bulk variability allowed three classes of iron ore materials to be selected that have significant influence on the product performance. Second, 25 different grab designs are generated using a random sampling method, Latin Hypercube Design, to be assessed as to their handling of the three classes of iron ore materials. Of this range of grab designs, optimal solutions are found using surrogate modelling-based optimization and the NSGA-II genetic algorithm. The optimization outcome is verified by comparing predictions of the optimization algorithm and results of DEM-MBD co-simulation. The established optimization framework offers a straightforward and reliable tool for designing grabs and other similar equipment.  相似文献

Analysis of the inhibition of food spoilage yeasts by vanillin   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The antimicrobial potential of vanillin, the major component of vanilla flavour, was examined against the growth of three yeasts associated with food spoilage, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Zygosaccharomyces bailii and Zygosaccharomyces rouxii. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 21, 20 and 13 mM vanillin were determined for the three yeast strains, respectively. The observed inhibition was found to be biostatic. During fermentation, the bioconversion of sub-MIC levels of vanillin in the culture medium was demonstrated. The major bioconversion product was identified as vanillyl alcohol, however low levels of vanillic acid were also detected. Neither the vanillyl alcohol nor the vanillic acid was found to be antagonistic to yeast cell growth. The results indicate the importance of the aldehyde moiety in the vanillin structure regarding its antimicrobial activity and that the bioconversion of vanillin could be advantageous for the yeasts, but only at levels below MIC. These bioconversion activities, presumably catalysed by non-specific dehydrogenases, were shown to be expressed constitutively. It was observed that increased vanillin concentrations inhibited its own bioconversion suggesting that the activity required intact cells with metabolic capacity.  相似文献

Optical pick‐up lenses are used in optical storage devices such as CD, DVD, and Blu‐Ray Disc. The production of such lenses is based on UV‐induced polymerization of a mixture of a dimethacrylate monomer and an initiator on a spherical glass substrate. The shape of the polymer layer is defined with an aspherical transparent mold. This means that the coating is completely surrounded by glassy materials during processing. Raman spectroscopy is applied in situ to monitor the polymerization reaction under conditions that closely resemble the actual production process. As a result improvements can be made to the reaction conditions if necessary. Data are compared to results obtained with IR spectroscopy in an off‐line approach. The value of the in situ characterization using Raman spectroscopy is illustrated by the observation that contrary to expectation, the local rate of polymerization is not influenced by shrinkage effects caused by local variations in volume relaxation in the wedge‐shaped sample volume. Instead, even quartz glass mold plates with a thickness of 30 times that of liquid monomer were deformed to accommodate for thermodynamically required volume shrinkage. Living cells are a collection of molecular machines which carry out many of the functions essential for the cell's existence, differentiation and reproduction. Most, though not all, of these machines are made up of proteins. Because of their complexity, an understanding of how they work requires a synergistic combination of experimental and theoretical studies. In this paper we outline our studies of two such protein machines. One is GroEL, the chaperone from Escherichia coli, which aids in protein folding; the other is F(1)-ATPase, a motor protein which synthesizes and hydrolyses ATP.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Alfalfa has the disadvantage of having a rapid initial rate of protein degradation, which results in pasture bloat, low efficiency of protein utilisation and excessive nitrogen (N) pollution into the environment for cattle. Introducing a gene that stimulates the accumulation of monomeric/polymeric anthocyanidins might reduce the ruminal protein degradation rate (by fixing protein and/or direct interaction with microbes) and additionally reduce methane emission. The objectives of this study were to evaluate in vitro fermentation, degradation and microbial N partitioning of three forage colour phenotypes (green, light purple‐green (LPG) and purple‐green (PG)) within newly developed Lc‐progeny and to compare them with those of parental green non‐transgenic (NT) alfalfa. RESULTS: PG‐Lc accumulated more anthocyanidin compared with Green‐Lc (P < 0.05), with LPG‐Lc intermediate. Volatile fatty acids and potentially degradable dry matter (DM) and N were similar among the four phenotypes. Gas, methane and ammonia accumulation rates were slower for the two purple‐Lc phenotypes compared with NT‐alfalfa (P < 0.05), while Green‐Lc was intermediate. Effective degradable DM and N were lower in the three Lc‐phenotypes (P < 0.05) compared with NT‐alfalfa. Anthocyanidin concentration was negatively correlated (P < 0.05) with gas and methane production rates and effective degradability of DM and N. CONCLUSION: The Lc‐alfalfa phenotypes accumulated anthocyanidin. Fermentation and degradation parameters indicated a reduced rate of fermentation and effective degradability for both purple anthocyanidin‐accumulating Lc‐alfalfa phenotypes compared with NT‐alfalfa. The temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity of assemblies of ZnO nanocrystals, studied with an electrochemically gated transistor is very accurately described by the relation ln sigma=ln sigma0-(T0/T)(x) with x=2/3 over the entire temperature range from 7 to 200 K, independent of charge concentration and dielectric environment. These results cannot be explained by existing models but are supported by results on Au nanocrystals where an identical temperature dependence was observed (Zabet-Khosousi et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 2006, 96 (15), 156403). We propose an adaptation of the Efros-Shklovskii variable-range hopping model by introducing an expression for nonresonant tunneling based on local energy fluctuations, which yields exactly the temperature dependence that is observed experimentally.  相似文献
