In this paper, a new approach for characterizing dispersion in nano-enhanced polymers and polymer composites using nanomechanical
characterization is developed. Dispersion of Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) as a model nanoscale ingredient is characterized in
two model polymer systems: (a) a thermoplastic polymer processed using a Twin Screw Extruder, and (b) a thermoset epoxy processed
using sonication during solvent processing. For the first time, the modulus of agglomerated nanofibers was isolated from the
polymer matrix enhanced with dispersed nanofibers by using nanomechanical characterization. Thus, it was possible to use these
nanomechanical properties in a microstructural model using a Rule-of-Mixtures (ROM) formulation to determine the fraction of dispersed nanofibers, which yielded a dispersion limit of 3 vol% CNFs in the nano-enhanced thermoplastic polymer and 3.5 vol% CNFs in the nano-enhanced thermoset epoxy. It was
also possible to predict the modulus measured using microtensile testing, and to determine an effective modulus of 30 GPa
for the CNFs, which was attributed to a spring-like effect from kinking along the nanofibers. Applying this characterization
to control of dispersion through sonication in the nano-enhanced thermoset epoxy, it was possible to determine the degree of dispersion with sonication time which was described using an Avrami equation. Finally, a carbon-fiber mat was used to create a model
nano-enhanced polymer composite whose properties were found to be insensitive to sonication time due to filtering effects
from the carbon-fiber mat and varied with CNF concentration in a manner where the CNF modulus could be extrapolated to 30 GPa,

In this research work, we proposed a medical image analysis framework with two separate releases whether or not Synovial Sarcoma (SS) is the cell structure for cancer. Within this framework the histopathology images are decomposed into a third-level sub-band using a two-dimensional Discrete Wavelet Transform. Subsequently, the structure features (SFs) such as Principal Components Analysis (PCA), Independent Components Analysis (ICA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) were extracted from this sub-band image representation with the distribution of wavelet coefficients. These SFs are used as inputs of the Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier. Also, classification of PCA + SVM, ICA + SVM, and LDA + SVM with Radial Basis Function (RBF) kernel the efficiency of the process is differentiated and compared with the best classification results. Furthermore, data collected on the internet from various histopathological centres via the Internet of Things (IoT) are stored and shared on blockchain technology across a wide range of image distribution across secure data IoT devices. Due to this, the minimum and maximum values of the kernel parameter are adjusted and updated periodically for the purpose of industrial application in device calibration. Consequently, these resolutions are presented with an excellent example of a technique for training and testing the cancer cell structure prognosis methods in spindle shaped cell (SSC) histopathological imaging databases. The performance characteristics of cross-validation are evaluated with the help of the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve, and significant differences in classification performance between the techniques are analyzed. The combination of LDA + SVM technique has been proven to be essential for intelligent SS cancer detection in the future, and it offers excellent classification accuracy, sensitivity, specificity. 相似文献

3D food printing has recently attracted significant attention, both from academic and industrial researchers, due to its ability to manufacture customized products in such terms as size, shape, texture, color, and nutrition to meet demands of individual consumers. 4D printing, which is a technique that allows evolution of various characteristics/properties of 3D printed objects over time through external stimulation, has also been gaining more attention. In order to produce defect-free printed objects via both 3D and 4D printing, it is necessary to first identify the causes of defects and then their mitigation strategies. Comprehensive review on these important issues is nevertheless missing. The purpose of this review is to investigate causes and characteristics of defects occurring during and/or after 3D food printing, with a focus on how different factors affect the printing accuracy. Various techniques that can potentially minimize or eliminate printing defects and produce high-quality 3D/4D printed food products without the need for time-consuming trial and error printing experiments are critically discussed. Today, the dramatic changes in types of food consumed have led to an increased burden of chronic diseases. Therefore, the emphasis of food research is not only to ensure quality food that can supply adequate nutrients to prevent nutrition related diseases, but also to ensure overall physical and mental-health. This has led to the concept of functional foods and nutraceuticals (FFNs), which can be ideally produced and delivered through plants. Metabolomics can help in getting the most relevant functional information, and thus has been considered the greatest –OMICS technology to date. However, metabolomics has not been exploited to the best potential in plant sciences. The technology can be leveraged to identify the health promoting compounds and metabolites that can be used for the development of FFNs. This article reviews (i) plant-based FFNs-related metabolites and their health benefits; (ii) use of different analytic platforms for targeted and non-targeted metabolite profiling along with experimental considerations; (iii) exploitation of metabolomics to develop FFNs in plants using various biotechnological tools; and (iv) potential use of metabolomics in plant breeding. Preheated solvent extraction (PSE) was evaluated via the analysis of the extraction kinetics, microstructure of extracted samples and energy consumption as alternative to microwave‐assisted extraction (MAE). Cabbage outer leaves and ethanol were used as test material and extraction solvent, respectively. MAE was first optimised in terms of glucosinolates and phenolics yields; total antioxidant activity of the extracts was also assessed. MAE at a specific absorbed power of 0.37 W g?1 for 9 min was selected as optimum condition to extract glucosinolates and phenolics, while PSE was optimised at 6 min of the extraction. The highest normalised total glucosinolates and phenolic contents as well as antioxidant activities of the extracts obtained via MAE were not significantly different from those obtained via PSE. Confocal laser scanning microscopy revealed no significant differences in cabbage cell damages rendered by MAE and PSE. PSE nevertheless exhibited slightly higher specific energy consumption than MAE. 相似文献

Wild mushrooms are a vital source of income and nutrition for many poor communities and of value to recreational foragers. Literature relating to the edibility of mushroom species continues to expand, driven by an increasing demand for wild mushrooms, a wider interest in foraging, and the study of traditional foods. Although numerous case reports have been published on edible mushrooms, doubt and confusion persist regarding which species are safe and suitable to consume. Case reports often differ, and the evidence supporting the stated properties of mushrooms can be incomplete or ambiguous. The need for greater clarity on edible species is further underlined by increases in mushroom-related poisonings. We propose a system for categorizing mushroom species and assigning a final edibility status. Using this system, we reviewed 2,786 mushroom species from 99 countries, accessing 9,783 case reports, from over 1,100 sources. We identified 2,189 edible species, of which 2,006 can be consumed safely, and a further 183 species which required some form of pretreatment prior to safe consumption or were associated with allergic reactions by some. We identified 471 species of uncertain edibility because of missing or incomplete evidence of consumption, and 76 unconfirmed species because of unresolved, differing opinions on edibility and toxicity. This is the most comprehensive list of edible mushrooms available to date, demonstrating the huge number of mushrooms species consumed. Three Himalayan medicinal plants (Habenaria intermedia, H. edgeworthii, and Roscoea procera), widely used in vitality strengthening Ayurvedic formulations in India, were assessed for nutritional phytochemical constituents, and antioxidant activity. These target species emerged as a good source of minerals and possessed important micro elements. Individually, H. intermedia contained a high content of total phenols, thiamins, tannins, and calcium; R. procera was rich in potassium and iron content; and H. edgeworthii emerged as a good source of sodium. While various antioxidant assays provided evidences on the antioxidant potential of target species, greater antioxidant potential of H. intermedia as compared to the other two species was revealing. This study, therefore, highlighted the possibilities of harnessing nutritional and antioxidant potential of these species. 相似文献

Effects of boiling water and microwave blanching methods on the dielectric properties, electrical conductivity as well as microstructure of stem lettuce cubes (as a model for plant tissue) were studied. The study also focused on how different blanching methods affect microwave freeze-drying (MFD) in a circular conduit drying chamber and conventional freeze drying (FD) of stem lettuce cubes. Results showed that the electrical conductivity of samples blanched by microwave was two times higher than that of boiling water blanched ones and five times higher than that of unblanched samples. Apart from that, dielectric constant (ε′) and loss factor (ε″) of the stem lettuce cubes decreased significantly after freezing. MFD duration of microwave blanched samples was approximately 4.5 h, reduced by 30% compared to boiling water blanched ones. MFD process in a circular conduit yielded products of high quality compared to that in a tray. 相似文献

Active films were prepared from chitosan (Ch) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) containing aqueous mint extract (ME)/pomegranate peel extract (PE). The effect of these extracts on the physical, mechanical, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of the films were studied. Increased protection against UV light was observed in the films containing the extracts. Addition of ME/PE improved the tensile strength of the films without affecting their puncture strength. Ch–PVA films incorporated with PE had the highest tensile strength (41.07 ± 0.88 MPa). Permeability characteristics of the films were not altered due to addition of extracts. ME/PE conferred antioxidant properties to Ch–PVA films as determined by DPPH radical scavenging activity. The films also exhibited antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus. PE containing films totally inhibited the growth of B. cereus and reduced the number of S. aureus by 2 log cycles. These results suggest that Ch–PVA film containing ME/PE can be used for development of active food packaging materials. 相似文献
