During extraction of crude oil, water is generally present in the oil. This water‐in‐oil (w/o) mixture undergoes turbulent flow that promotes sheer forces, resulting in the appearance of emulsions. These emulsions can be highly stable due to the presence of compounds with polar characteristics such as asphaltenes, which act as natural emulsifiers and form resistant films at the oil–water interface. Nonionic surfactants based on polyoxides are widely used to prevent the formation or to break down w/o emulsions. To shed more light on the destabilization mechanism of w/o emulsions promoted by these surfactants, in this study the techniques of tensiometry and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy with attenuated total reflectance (FTIR‐ATR) were applied to study the interface formed by poly(ethylene oxide)‐poly(propylene oxide) (PEO‐PPO) block copolymers and asphaltenic petroleum fractions. Initially, the critical micelle concentration of the copolymers in aqueous solution was determined. The results agreed with those found by tensiometry. The bottle test was used to evaluate the break‐down of the w/o emulsions in the presence of the PEO‐PPO block copolymers, and the results presented good agreement with those obtained by tensiometry and FTIR‐ATR. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Soy protein fractions rich in β-conglycinin (7S) or glycinin (11S) were freeze dried or spray dried at temperatures of 120, 150 or 180 °C. The fractions were characterized for their particle size distribution, sorption isotherms and by scanning differential calorimetry. The gelling capacity of the protein fractions was studied at pH values of 3 and 7 using oscillatory measurements, mechanical properties and water holding capacity. The rheological measurements showed that viscous modulus (G″) predominated at low temperatures and the elastic modulus (G′) at high temperatures. At pH 3, the G′–G″ crossover occurred at lower temperatures when compared to pH 7. This behaviour was more accentuated for the 11S fractions due to its capacity to form stronger gels. An increase of drying temperature led to a displacement of the gel point to higher temperatures and decreased the elasticity modulus or gelling capacity of protein fractions. These results were confirmed by the mechanical properties, since at higher temperatures the gels were more fragile and brittle, especially when formed at pH 7.  相似文献

Ant Colony Optimization is a swarm intelligence approach that has proved to be useful in solving several classes of discrete and continuous optimization problems. One set, called scheduling problems, is extremely important both to academics and to practitioners. This paper describes how the current literature uses the ACO approach to solve scheduling problems. An analysis of the literature allows one to conclude that ACO is a hugely viable approach to solve scheduling problems. On the basis of the literature review, we were not only able to derive certain guidelines for the implementation of ACO algorithms but also to determine possible directions for future research.  相似文献

In this work, the monitoring of the bacterial and chemical dissolution of bornite was evaluated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS); the mineral surface was examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The analysis of CV results allowed attributing the different peaks observed in both direct and reverse potential scanning to the oxidation of bornite to a secondary covellite and its reduction via different non stoichiometric copper sulphides intermediaries. EIS data for bornite were obtained in control medium up to 78 h of immersion, when a cellular suspension of A. ferrooxidans was added and the experiments continued up to a 192 h of test. The EIS response was different when bacteria were added in the beginning of the test or after some hours of immersion in acid solution. The experiments were performed in different cell configurations and a model of the electrode/electrolyte interface. The correspondent equivalent electrical circuit was used to fit impedance spectra for all studied conditions. A common equivalent circuit used for corrosion processes where anodic (degradation of the mineral) and cathodic (oxygen reduction) reactions occur in parallel, together film and biofilm formation was proposed.  相似文献

The main goal of this work is to study the potential approaches to improve polysaccharides retention during Eucalyptus globulus kraft pulping. The addition of anthraquinone to kraft pulping leads to the highest pulp yield while the addition of urea promotes lower depolymerization of polysaccharides (higher pulp viscosity), but does not have a significant effect on yield. The early interruption of kraft cooking followed by oxygen delignification is a reliable approach to increase pulp yield, particularly when pulping is interrupted at the end of the faster and more selective kinetic regime (bulk phase). Yield loss during oxygen delignification is considerably lower than that incurred in the last phase of kraft pulping. Pulping with OH?/HS? charge profiling, carried out with liquor injection in three different phases leads to a yield increase. However, this increase results from a lower total alkali charge applied when profiling pulping is compared to standard pulping conditions, rather than to alkali profiling. Standard kraft pulping with different active alkali (AA) charges demonstrated that this operational variable is determinant for pulp yield and viscosity. Pulping experiences with lower AA (14%) resulted in a higher and almost constant pulp viscosity and in a higher pulp yield, assigned to improved retention of both cellulose and xylan. During the last stage of pulping, cellulose content decreases, this being mainly responsible for the decrease of pulp yield, while xylan content is almost constant, a feature attributed to the peculiar structure of this E. globulus's hemicellulose. In this article, results obtained from an investigation focusing on the application of diamond coatings on inserts for thermoplastic injection moulding applications are reported. The injection moulding industry can potentially benefit significantly from the use of diamond coatings on moulds typically employed in the injection moulding systems. Diamond films were coated on steel and onto silicon inserts and subsequently tested in real operating conditions. The moulded objects were analysed and the results were compared between bare steel and silicon inserts. The as-grown diamond coatings were characterised prior to and post the routine injection cycles using a number of techniques, such as Raman spectroscopy and SEM. Furthermore, the polymer finishing quality was assessed by optical microscopy for each material and coating used, and the results are presented and discussed in this article.  相似文献

A novel type of leaky-wave antenna is presented. Differently from previously reported leaky-wave antennas, it is characterized by a constant beam direction over a very wide range of frequencies. The radiation originates at a slot etched at the interface between air and a dense dielectric, which is shaped to form a cylinder of elliptical cross sections of decreasing dimensions. Two prototypes have been designed, manufactured, and tested. The measurements are in very good agreement with the expectations, demonstrating the potentials of the leaky lens concept to realize integrated transmitters or receivers that are extremely broadband and directive.  相似文献

Maleic anhydride functionalized PP was prepared in a melt-mixer according to a factorial design. Two levels of maleic anhydride concentration (MA), dicumyl peroxide concentration (DCP), reaction time, and temperature were employed. The isolated and interaction effects of these variables on the degree of functionalization and molecular weights were analyzed. The products were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), titration, and torque measures. The reaction time showed no appreciable effect within the studied range (10 to 20 minutes); however, the other three factors showed significant main effects. MA and temperature presented an important interaction effect on the degree of functionalization and molecular weights. The highest degrees of functionalization were found to be related to the smallest molecular weights.  相似文献

Supramolecular self-assembly has been demonstrated to be a useful approach to developing new functional nanomaterials. In this work, we used a cobalt Prussian blue analogue (PBA, Co3[Co(CN)6]2) compound and a β-cyclodextrin (CD) macrocycle to develop a novel host-guest PBA-CD nanomaterial. The preparation of the functional magnetic material involved the self-assembly of CD molecules onto a PBA surface by a co-precipitation method. According to transmission electronic microscopy results, PBA-CD exhibited a polydisperse structure composed of 3D nanocubes with a mean edge length of 85 nm, which became shorter after CD incorporation. The supramolecular arrangement and structural, crystalline and thermal properties of the hybrid material were studied in detail by vibrational and electronic spectroscopies and X-ray diffraction. The cyclic voltammogram of the hybrid material in a 0.1 mol·L−1 NaCl supporting electrolyte exhibited a quasi-reversible redox process, attributed to Co2+/Co3+ conversion, with an E1/2 value of 0.46 V (vs. SCE), with higher reversibility observed for the system in the presence of CD. The standard rate constants for PBA and PBA-CD were determined to be 0.07 and 0.13 s−1, respectively, which suggests that the interaction between the nanocubes and CD at the supramolecular level improves electron transfer. We expect that the properties observed for the hybrid material make it a potential candidate for (bio)sensing designs with a desirable capability for drug delivery.  相似文献
