The volatile aroma compounds of raw and roasted palm kernel, isolated by hydrodistillation, were analysed by g.l.c. and g.c.-m.s. A number of compounds have been identified for the first time in this commodity. It was found that δ-lactones and ethyl esters were predominant in the flavour profile. In roasted palm kernels, flavour analysis showed the presence of a number of pyrazines formed during heating. Most of the lactones and esters identified in raw palm kernel were present in the roasted samples also. The flavour concentrate included a number of fatty acids in both the raw and roasted samples, in small amounts. 相似文献

Dynamic mechanical analysis of novel composites from commingled polypropylene fiber and banana fiber

Polypropylene (PP)/banana fiber (BF) composites were fabricated from PP fiber and short BF by novel commingling method. The dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) of the composites was performed with reference to BF loading and fiber surface treatments. By the incorporation of BF into the PP matrix, the storage modulus and loss modulus have been found to increase, whereas damping factor has been found to decrease. Glass transition temperature was found to increase with increase in BF loading. The viscoelastic properties of the composites were also found to depend on fiber surface treatments. The activation energy of the composites for the glass transition has been found to be increased by the increase in BF loading. Surface treatment of the BF further increased the activation energy of the composites, indicating a stronger interface for treated fiber composites. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) photographs of the BF showed the physical changes induced by the surface treatments. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to ascertain the existence of the type of interfacial bonds. Three types are considered: conical baffles and annular baffles for tubular reactors and axial baffles for reactors with a rectangular cross-section. This paper presents studies carried out on tin-doped indium sulfide films prepared using Chemical Spray Pyrolysis (CSP) technique. Effect of both in-situ and ex-situ doping were analyzed. Ex-situ doping was done by thermal diffusion, which was realized by annealing Sn/In2S3 bilayer films. In-situ doping was accomplished by introducing Sn into the spray solution by using SnCl4·5H2O. Interestingly, it was noted that by ex-situ doping, conductivity of the sample enhanced considerably without affecting any of the physical properties such as crystallinity or band gap. Analysis also showed that higher percentage of doping resulted in samples with low crystallinity and negative photosensitivity. In-situ doping resulted in amorphous films. In contrast to ex-situ doping, ‘in- situ doping’ resulted in widening of optical band gap through oxygen incorporation; also it gave highly photosensitive films. 相似文献

Wildfire burnt forest biomass can be salvaged as feedstock for bioenergy power generating stations. Despite availability of such forest biomass in northwestern Ontario, its procurement has generally been considered uneconomic and no studies have looked into the cost of harvesting, processing, and transporting the burnt material for bioenergy production. In order to meet the demand of biomass for proposed and existing power generating stations using renewable fuels, a standard costing model is used to determine the feasibility of procuring biomass from burnt areas using a full-tree to roadside, roadside grinder to mill system. The case-study was conducted at the Hogarth Plantations near Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. The total cost incurred for processing and delivery of biomass from wildfire burnt area with a hauling distance of 7 km and total trip cycle time of 2.55 h was found to be $29.65 gt?1, with net energy content of 11.4 GJ gt?1. The total procurement cost depends on the hauling distance and a linear relationship between the two was established. The nanofluid flow between two plates is a common topic of research. However, studies dealing with the flow between two vertical plates moving in different directions have not been largely accounted for. The main aim of this study is to analytically and statistically investigate the MHD flow of water-based nanofluid between two vertical porous plates moving in opposite directions using perturbation technique and multiple linear regression, respectively. The consequence of various parameters on concentration, temperature, and velocity are examined via graphs using MATLAB software. It is observed that the main flow velocity profile is greater when the magnetic field is applied on the upward moving plate as compared to the main flow velocity when the magnetic field is applied on the downward-moving plate. The physical quantities are scrutinized using statistical tools like probable error and multiple linear regression and an excellent agreement is noted. It is noted that the Nusselt number is highly positively correlated with the injection parameter and highly negatively correlated with nanoparticle volume fraction. X-ray spectroscopy measurements have been combined with macroscopic uptake data and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results to show that Pb(II) uptake by Burkholderia cepacia is due to simultaneous sorption and biomineralization processes. X-ray microprobe mapping of B. cepacia biofilms formed on alpha-Al2O3 surfaces shows that Pb(II) is distributed heterogeneously throughout the biofilms because of the formation of Pb "hot spots". EXAFS data and TEM observations show that the enhanced Pb accumulation is due to the formation of nanoscale crystals of pyromorphite (Pb5(PO4)3(OH)) adjacent to the outer-membrane of a fraction of the total population of B. cepacia cells. In contrast, B. cepacia cell suspensions or biofilms that were heat-killed or pretreated with X-rays do not form pyromorphite, which suggests that metabolic activity is required. Precipitation of pyromorphite occurs over several orders of magnitude in [H-] and [Pb] and accounts for approximately 90% of the total Pb uptake below pH 4.5 but only 45-60% at near-neutral pH because of the formation of additional Pb(II) adsorption complexes. Structural fits of Pb L(III) EXAFS data collected for heat-treated cells at near-neutral pH suggest that Pb(II) forms inner-sphere adsorption complexes with carboxyl functional groups in the biofilms. 相似文献
