Starch microcellular foam was produced by supercritical fluid extrusion (SCFX) using native and pregelatinized starch mixtures. The starch solution was reacted with epichlorohydrin (EPI) under alkaline conditions in a continuous twin‐screw extruder in the presence of supercritical carbon dioxide. The relationship between crosslinking density and cell size and their distribution in the foamed extrudates was studied. An increase in the EPI concentration from 0 to 0.5% was accompanied by an increase in the degree of crosslinking as measured by differential scanning calorimetry and confirmed by diffusion coefficient measured by nuclear magnetic resonance. The diffusion coefficient of crosslinked sample was observed to be 12.5 times lower than that of non crosslinked control. The average cell size of the microporous structure, observed by scanning electron microscopy, showed a decrease from 147 to 61 μm as the concentration of EPI was increased. The cell size distribution of the crosslinked samples was significantly improved but the total expansion was lowered. The results obtained to date indicate, for the first time, that reactive extrusion of starch with EPI with supercritical carbon dioxide as a blowing agent offers a promising new technique to generate microporous foams for use in various applications. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two hyperbranched polyesteramides (HYP1 and HYP2) were prepared by reacting succinic anhydride (ScAn) with both of diisopropanolamine (DiPA) and diethanolamine, respectively, via one‐pot polycondensation reaction. The prepared polymers were analyzed using gel permeation chromatography, infrared spectra, and 1HNMR. The resulting hydroxyl‐ended resins have been successfully applied as polymeric admixtures in two types of cements such as Ordinary Portland cement and Portland limestone cement. The water of consistency decreased by addition of the hyperbranched polymers in both types of cements. Better hydration was observed by incorporation of small amounts of polymers. The infrared spectra and scanning electron microscopy photos of Ordinary Portland cement and Portland limestone cement pastes premixed with HYP1 and HYP2 showed no effect on the chemical composition of the cement hydrates where only the morphology and the crystallinity of the formed hydrates were changed. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Aluminum and its alloys are widely used in different industries due to such attractive properties as adequate strength, ductility, and low density. It is desirable to characterize welds of aluminum alloys obtained using “friction stir welding” at high temperatures. Al-to-Al (both 6061-T6) butt joints are produced by friction stir welding at tool rotation speed of 1600 rpm and four levels of tool advancing speeds: 250, 500, 750, and 1000 mm/min. Microstructural properties of the different welds are investigated. Observed are noticeable differences in microstructure characteristics between the various weld zones. Mechanical properties of these welded joints are characterized under tensile tests at temperatures of 25, 100, 200, and 300 °C, at a constant strain rate of 10?3/s. The optimum microstructural and mechanical properties were obtained for the samples FS welded with 1600 rpm tool rotation speed at 1000 mm/min tool advancing speed. The studied welds exhibited yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and strain to failure with values inferior of those of the base material. Observations of postmortem samples revealed that in the temperature range of 25-200 °C the locus of failure originates at the region between the thermo-mechanically affected zone and the heat-affected zones. However, at higher temperatures (300 °C), the failure occurs in the stir zone. A change in the crack initiation mechanism with temperature is suggested to explain this observation. 相似文献

Over one billion people globally are vitamin D (VD) deficient. Studies on the biological roles of VD are numerous but very little on the stomach. This project aims to understand how gastric homeostasis is affected by VD deficiency caused by prolonged exposure to darkness alone or combined with VD deficient diet. Three groups of C57/BL6 mice were subjected to different light exposure conditions and diets for 12 months (n = 8–12/group): control—12 h/12 h light/dark SDL (Standard Diet/Light), 24 h dark SDD (Standard Diet/Dark), and 24 h dark VDD (VD deficient diet/Dark). Stomach samples were collected for different multi-label lectin-/immuno-histochemical and qRT-PCR analyses, and the serum for LC-MS-MS. We found that the membrane VD receptor is expressed widely in the stomach when compared to nuclear VD receptors. Compared to SDL, VDD mice developed mucous cell expansion with increased mucins-mRNA (3.27 ± 2.73 (p < 0.05)) increased apoptotic cells, 15 ± 7 (p ≤ 0.001)); decreased cell proliferation, 4 ± 4 (p < 0.05)) and decreased acid secretion 33 ± 2 μEq/kg (p ≤ 0.0001)). Interestingly, mice exposed to full darkness developed mild VD deficiency with higher VD epimer levels: 11.9 ± 2.08 ng/mL (p ≤ 0.0001)), expansion in zymogenic cell number (16 ± 3 (p ≤ 0.01)), and a reduction in acid secretion (18 ± 2 μEq/kg (p ≤ 0.0001)). Radiolabeling of alpha-fetoprotein monoclonal antibody (AFP-MoAb) with 131I for detection of liver tumor was performed. Liver tumor in Japanese quails was induced by aflatoxin B1, which is potent carcinogen to animals and birds. The labeling of AFP-MoAb was carried out using chloramine-T as oxidizing agent. The effect of the oxidizing agent amount, substrate amount, reaction time, and pH of the reaction medium on the product yield was studied. The labeled compound was quantitatively separated and purified by HPLC. The biodistribution of 131I-AFP-MoAb was studied upon oral administration of the tracer in both normal and tumor-bearing Japanese quails. Localization of 131I-AFP-MoAb in liver tumor indicates that this labeled compound can be used for radioimmunodetection of liver tumor. 相似文献

A study was conducted to assess the lifting capabilities of acclimatized individuals in hot environments. Six male subjects were selected for the study. The subjects were heat acclimatized for ten days prior to participation in the experiment. A psychophysical experiment was then carried out using three temperature levels (22, 27, and 32°C Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT), three frequencies of lift (0.1, 3 and 6 lifts/min), and one height of lift (floor to knuckle height). The results indicated that the maximum acceptable weights of lift selected by the subjects at 27°C WBGT were not significantly different from the weights selected at 22°C WBGT. On the other hand, the maximum acceptable weights selected at 32°C WBGT were reduced by approximately 13 percent. 相似文献
