The objective of this study has been to characterize sialolith, a calcium phosphate deposit that develops in the human oral cavity, by high-resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The morphological and chemical data obtained helped in the determination of their formation mechanism in salivary glands. Sialoliths in the submandibular salivary glands may arise secondary to sialodenitis, but not via a luminal organic nidus. We believe this is the first study that characterizes a sialolith by XPS.  相似文献

Tourism has become the world's fastest growing sector due to acceleration of technology and information flow in the globalized world of today, development of the modem mass transport system and increase in people's disposable income. Upon tourism's being considered as a serious development strategy in the developments of the countries, all the countries of the world have begun to accelerate their investments in this area through utilizing the natural and cultural assets of their countries (heritage) with a view to provide revenue to their economy as well as creation of jobs. This situation, which has emerged as a result of the globalization of supply and demand in tourism, has created certain problems in terms of environmental balance and the living conditions of local people as a result of poor management of the utilization of natural and cultural resources. The objective of this paper is to examine the concepts and principles germane to sustainable tourism which has significant contribution to the development of the countries, made at the macro level both in the world and in Turkey. The aim of this paper, at the micro level, is to create awareness incident to the tourism resources of the Van Region and the Old Van province and ensure the utilization of these resources through protection thereof. At the end of the study, the importance of the protection of heritage resources as well as fair use thereof in terms of increasing the competitiveness of Turkey on a global scale in tourism is addressed in the light of the overall evaluations.  相似文献

To reduce the cost of the formed coke briquettes which can be used as a substitute fuel to the metallurgical coke for the blast furnace from the coke breeze alternative binders and their blends were used. The high temperature behavior was investigated. The binders tested were: the nitrogen blown, air blown coal tar pitch and the blend of air blown coal tar pitch with the phenolic resins blends. The phenolic resin blends were prepared by mixing equal amount of resole and novalac. From the results, nitrogen blowing resulted in the weakest briquettes. The air blowing procedure should be preferred in place of nitrogen blowing for this purpose. When the air blown coal tar pitch was used alone as a binder, the briquettes must be cured at 200 °C for 2 h, then carbonized at a temperature above 670 °C. Since it requires higher temperature at carbonization stage, using air blown coal tar pitch alone as a binder was not economical. Therefore, the briquettes were prepared from the blended binder, containing air blown coal tar pitch and phenolic resins blend. The optimum amount of air blown coal tar pitch was found to be 50% w/w in the blended binder. Curing the briquettes at 200 °C for 2 h was found to be sufficient for producing strong briquettes with a tensile strength of 50.45 MN/m2. When these cured briquettes were carbonized at temperatures 470 °C, 670 °C and 950 °C, their strength were increasing continuously, reaching to 71.85 MN/m2 at the carbonization temperature of 950 °C. These briquettes can be used as a substitute for the metallurgical coke after curing; the process might not require un-economical high temperature carbonization stage.  相似文献

In this study, novel poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) composite scaffolds were prepared for bone tissue engineering applications, where gentamicin‐loaded β‐tricalcium phosphate (β‐TCP)/gelatin microspheres were added to PCL. The effects of the amount of β‐TCP/gelatin microspheres added to the PCL scaffold on various properties, such as the gentamicin release rate, biodegradability, morphology, mechanical strength, and pore size distribution, were investigated. A higher amount of filler caused a reduction in the mechanical properties and an increase in the pore size and led to a faster release of gentamicin. Human osteosarcoma cells (Saos‐2) were seeded on the prepared composite scaffolds, and the viability of cells having alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity was observed for all of the scaffolds after 3 weeks of incubation. Cell proliferation and differentiation enhanced the mechanical strength of the scaffolds. Promising results were obtained for the development of bone cells on the prepared biocompatible, biodegradable, and antimicrobial composite scaffolds. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Superabsorbent hydrogels of chitosan-g-polyacrylamide with N,N′-methylene-bis-acrylamide as a crosslinker were prepared via UV irradiation in the absence of photoinitiator under homogeneous conditions. The product was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and scanning electron microscopy to confirm the formation of hydrogels. The transparent hydrogels have been observed to exhibit as much as 2987% swelling in acidic solution. In addition, the hydrogel which hydrolyzed for 6 h (0.24 × 103 min) can have a water uptake of 106 times its weight (5300% swelling for 0.5 g hydrogel). The effect of several variables such as time, temperature, pH, acrylamide/chitosan ratio, crosslinker amount, and different media was explored. Finally, the prepared hydrogel have been used in adsorption of Zn(II) ions from water with high removal efficiency (0.636 meq g−1 or 20.8 mg g−1) at pH = 7. The experimental data of the adsorption equilibrium from Zn(II) solution fit well with the pseudo-second-order model.  相似文献

We report on the Mg-doped, indium-rich GaxIn1−xN (x < 30). In the undoped material, the intrinsic electron density is very high and as a result there is no detectable photoconductivity (PC) signal within the range of temperatures of 30 <T < 300 K. In the Mg-doped material however, where the conductivity is reduced, there is a strong PC spectrum with two prominent low-energy peaks at 0.65 and 1.0 eV and one broad high-energy peak at around 1.35 eV. The temperature dependence of the spectral photoconductivity under constant illumination intensity, at T > 150 K, is determined by the longitudinal-optical phonon scattering together with the thermal regeneration of non-equilibrium minority carriers from traps with an average depth of 103 ± 15 meV. This value is close to the Mg binding energy in GaInN. The complementary measurements of transient photoluminescence at liquid He temperatures give the e-A0 binding energy of approximately 100 meV. Furthermore, Hall measurements in the Mg-doped material also indicate an activated behaviour with an acceptor binding energy of 108 ± 20 meV.  相似文献

In this study, photomodulated reflectance (PR) technique was employed on two different quantum well infrared photodetector (QWIP) structures, which consist of n-doped GaAs quantum wells (QWs) between undoped AlxGa1−xAs barriers with three different x compositions. Therefore, the barrier profile is in the form of a staircase-like barrier. The main difference between the two structures is the doping profile and the doping concentration of the QWs. PR spectra were taken at room temperature using a He-Ne laser as a modulation source and a broadband tungsten halogen lamp as a probe light. The PR spectra were analyzed using Aspnes’ third derivative functional form.Since the barriers are staircase-like, the structure has different ground state energies; therefore, several optical transitions take place in the spectrum which cannot be resolved in a conventional photoluminescence technique at room temperature. To analyze the experimental results, all energy levels in the conduction and in the valance band were calculated using transfer matrix technique, taking into account the effective mass and the parabolic band approximations. A comparison of the PR results with the calculated optical transition energies showed an excellent agreement. Several optical transition energies of the QWIP structures were resolved from PR measurements. It is concluded that PR spectroscopy is a very useful experimental tool to characterize complicated structures with a high accuracy at room temperature.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate contribution of nanoclays to the flame retardancy performance of a traditional brominated flame retardant compound with various combinations of antimony trioxide and zinc borate. The matrix polymer acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) was compounded by melt mixing in a laboratory size twin‐screw extruder. X‐ray diffraction analysis and transmission electron microscopy revealed that nanoclay silicate layers were mainly intercalated with certain level of exfoliation in ABS matrix. Flammability analysis investigated by mass loss calorimeter, limiting oxygen index, and UL‐94 tests indicated that use of nanoclays improved all flame retardancy parameters significantly. For instance, the increase in the limiting oxygen index was up to 32% O2, while the suppression in peak heat release rate value was as much as 82%, of course in each specimen the highest rating of V‐0 in UL‐94 test was obtained. Thermogravimetric and other residue analyses pointed out that these contributions were especially due to the condensed phase flame retardancy mechanism of nanoclay which contributes stronger and carbonaceous char formation acting as a barrier to heat and flammable gases and retarding volatilization via tortuous pathway. Recently, continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) and plasmapheresis (PF) were suggested as supportive therapy options in combination with standard treatment in advanced liver failure. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of supportive extracorporeal treatment (SET) in a group of patients with advanced hepatic failure. A total of 25 patients (7 women, 18 men; mean age, 39.3+/-15.4 years; 13 were transplant recipients [6 women, 7 men; mean age, 37.7+/-16.9 years]) were included. All patients were in hepatic coma and receiving standard coma and liver failure management when they received SET. Number of SET sessions; levels of serum blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, albumin, calcium, phosphorus, ammonia, alanine and aspartate aminotransferase, and total/conjugated bilirubin; and prothrombin times (PTT) before and after SET were recorded retrospectively. 7.7+/-7.9 SET sessions were performed. Thirteen liver transplant recipients required SET for an average of 9.7+/-8.3 days after transplantation. Serum ammonia and bilirubin levels were lower after termination of supportive therapy when compared with initial levels (p<0.0001 and p<0.005 respectively). During follow-up, hepatic encephalopathy and liver failure resolved in 11 patients, while 14 patients (7 transplant recipients) died. There was no significant difference between patients in either group except that PTT was shorter in patients who survived (p<0.01). Further analyses revealed that in surviving patients, ammonia clearance was higher (p<0.01). In patients with advanced liver failure, or liver transplants, CVVHDF and/or PF could be supportive options combined with standard treatment.  相似文献
