We show how spherical linear interpolation can be used to produce shading with a quality at least similar to Phong shading at a computational effort in the inner loop that is close to that of the Gouraud method. We show how to use the Chebyshev's recurrence relation in order to compute the shading very efficiently. Furthermore, it can also be used to interpolate vectors in such a way that normalization is not necessary, which will make the interpolation very fast. The somewhat larger setup effort required by this approach can be handled through table look up techniques.  相似文献

A microfluidic system for long-term real-time monitoring of dynamic cellular events of immobilized human cells was investigated. The luciferase reporter gene activity in the reporter cell line HFF11, based on HeLa cells, was used as the model system. The cells were immobilized on silicon flow-through microchips and continuously supplied with a cell medium at 2 microL/min while maintaining the chip at 37 degrees C. The HFF11 cell line was designed for high-throughput screening of ligands for seven-transmembrane receptors. When a ligand binds, the receptor is activated and a cascade of intracellular reactions starts, ending with the synthesis of the reporter protein Photinus luciferase. The major goal was to develop a microfluidic system for continuous long-term assaying of the intracellular reporter gene activity in real time and determine the conditions, which could minimize cells stress and hence unspecific expression of the reporter gene. In the resulting microfluidic system and assay protocol, the cell microchip could be kept and assayed for a period up to 30 h. The developed system and data outcome was compared with a corresponding microtiter plate performed with the same cell line to highlight the advantages obtained in the microfluidic format.  相似文献

CHRISGAS is the acronym for Clean Hydrogen-rich Synthesis Gas), a 5½-year “Flagship” project funded within the EC’s 6th Framework Programme and by the Swedish Energy Agency. 20 partners representing industry and research from 7 EU member states have been involved in the project which commenced in September 2004 and ended in February 2010.Research on the whole value chain from biomass resources, drying, pressurised gasification and other thermo-chemical processing to final synthesis (syngas) gas, as well as plant cost studies including synthesis of vehicle fuels for three full scale production capacities has been covered in the integrated CHRISGAS project (http://www.chrisgas.com). From a hydrogen-rich synthesis gas renewable transportation fuels, such as DME (dimethyl ether), FT-diesel and hydrogen can be produced. At the project onset one of the primary aims was to demonstrate the manufacture of a suitable syngas based on biomass gasification at the Värnamo large scale pilot plant. Unfortunately due to insufficient additional funding this aim could not be fulfilled within the timeframe of the project.This paper describes the history and the evolution of the project; it also presents the other papers included in this edition within the context of the work areas of the CHRISGAS project.  相似文献

Exacerbated by the specificity of housing as a welfare good, debates on housing, citizenship and rights are complex and often confusing. This article attempts to clarify the debate on rights-based approaches in the field of housing, shelter and homelessness. It focuses on the philosophical distinction between “natural” and “socially constructed” rights, and suggests that a plausible “third way” may be found by using Martha Nussbaum’s “central human capabilities” approach as a foundation for universal human rights. “Citizenship” is proposed as a conceptual bridge between the philosophical discourse on rights and its practical application in specific political contexts. For this purpose, T.H. Marshall’s classic division between “civil” and “social” citizenship rights is translated into a distinction between “legal” and “programmatic” rights to housing. The article demonstrates that it is possible to object to the notion of natural and/or human rights in the housing field, and still be in favour of clearly delimited legal rights to housing for homeless people and others in acute need. Conversely, one may be in sympathy with the discourse of universal moral rights, but be sceptical about the allegedly “atomizing” implications of individually enforceable legal rights.  相似文献

Udder cleft dermatitis (UCD) is a skin lesion in dairy cattle mostly located at the anterior junction between the udder and the abdominal wall or between the front quarters. Relatively little is known about causative factors for UCD, and few studies have investigated prevalence and risk factors of UCD. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of UCD in a random sample of dairy herds with freestalls and milking parlors in a county of Sweden. Thirty dairy herds participated in the study. Each herd was visited once at milking, when every third cow was investigated for presence of UCD. Associations between UCD and milk production, breed, parity, days in milk, claw health, and udder health on the herd and cow levels were also investigated. In addition, a case-control study was performed in 6 herds with a high prevalence of UCD to investigate associations between udder conformation or mange and UCD. Udder cleft dermatitis was found in 18.4% of the 1,084 cows included in the study. The within-herd cow prevalence varied between zero and 39%, with an average of 18.5%. Risk factors for UCD at the herd level were a high proportion of Swedish Red cows and a high production level. At the cow level, breed, parity, and production level were identified as risk factors. The highest risk of having UCD was found in high-producing Swedish Red cows that had calved at least 3 times. Veterinary-treated clinical mastitis was associated with UCD, but cow composite somatic cell count was not. A strong anterior udder attachment was a protective factor, but signs of mange had no association with UCD. The primary cause of UCD is still unclear, and more research is needed to identify the best ways to prevent the development of this animal welfare problem.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Activation of neutrophils and activation of complement may be an aetiologic factor behind circulatory insufficiency in association with reperfusion of the grafted liver. METHODS: Neutrophil and macrophage activation (determined as PMN elastase and neopterin release) and complement activation were evaluated in 15 consecutive patients undergoing orthotopic liver transplantation without the use of veno-venous bypass. RESULTS: The PMN elastase concentrations were increased at the end of the anhepatic phase, 2, 5 and 30 min after start of reperfusion and 6 and 24 h postoperatively. There were significantly higher PMN elastase concentrations in patients with circulatory instability (postreperfusion syndrome) compared with those without postreperfusion syndrome. The neopterin concentration was increased 2 min after the start of reperfusion and remained elevated until 6 h postoperatively. The plasma complement C3a concentrations were increased at the end of the anhepatic phase and 2, 5 and 30 min after the start of reperfusion. The plasma C3a levels were higher in patients with postreperfusion syndrome compared to those without. CONCLUSIONS: Activation of neutrophils and macrophages and of the complement cascade with the formation of biologically active substances may be one explanation for the circulatory instability often seen in patients undergoing orthotopic liver transplantation.  相似文献

We present results from measurements of the subthreshold lateral spontaneous emission profile in 1.3-mu m wavelength ridge waveguide InGaNAs quantum-well lasers using a scanning near-field optical microscopy technique. The measurements reveal the presence of significant lateral carrier diffusion which has a profound effect on the temperature dependence of the threshold current. This effect is frequently omitted when the characteristic temperature of the threshold current is considered.  相似文献

Perturbations in the sympathetic nervous system may be anticipated in adults with hypopituitarism and untreated GH deficiency, because the syndrome is associated with both peripheral and central factors known to modulate sympathetic traffic. The higher prevalence of hypertension and increased cardiovascular morbidity/mortality reported in GH-deficient patients may suggest increased activity of the sympathetic nervous system. We recorded muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) in 10 hypopituitary adults with adequate hormonal replacement therapy except GH and in 10 healthy controls matched for age, gender, and body mass index to test whether hormonal aberrations in hypopituitarism and untreated GH deficiency are associated with an increase in sympathetic nerve traffic. Blood samples for insulin-like growth factor I, free T4, and TSH were taken after an overnight fast, followed by an oral glucose tolerance test. Direct intraneural recordings of MSNA were performed with a tungsten microelectrode from the peroneal nerve. The hypopituitary subjects had markedly increased MSNA (54 +/- 4 bursts/min vs. 34 +/- 4 in controls; P < 0.002), which was not related to abdominal obesity or altered glucose metabolism. When assessed for the whole study group, MSNA was inversely correlated to serum insulin-like growth factor I (r = -0.59; P < 0.006) and TSH (r = -0.46; P < 0.04). MSNA was positively correlated to diastolic blood pressure (r = 0.80; P < 0.0005) in patients, but not in controls. The intense sympathetic discharge is suggested to be of central origin and may be an important underlying mechanism for the secondary hypertension and increased cardiovascular morbidity/mortality in this patient group.  相似文献

AIM: Experimental data in heart failure models and an open trial of seven patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy have suggested beneficial effects of growth hormone on cardiac function. The aim of the present study was to evaluate growth hormone effects on cardiac function in a placebo-controlled study. METHODS: Twenty two patients with congestive heart failure of different aetiologies in NYHA II and III and an echocardiographic ejection fraction <0.45 were studied in a 3 month double-blind placebo-controlled study with growth hormone added to optimal heart failure therapy. Patients received either placebo (n=11) or recombinant human growth hormone (n=11) in an initial dose of 0.1 IU x kg(-1) week(-1) for 1 week, and thereafter 0.25 IU x kg(-1) week(-1) for the rest of the treatment period. Cardiac function was assessed by equilibrium radionuclide angiography and Doppler echocardiography. Functional capacity was evaluated by computerized bicycle exercise electrocardiography. RESULTS: Recombinant human growth hormone had no significant effect on systolic or diastolic cardiac function, exercise capacity or neuroendocrine activation. In addition, there was no overall improvement in functional class or dyspnoea grade. Insulin-like growth factor-I significantly increased demonstrating that the growth hormone had an endocrine effect. CONCLUSION: This is the first double-blind and placebo-controlled study of the administration, over 3 months, of recombinant human growth hormone in patients with congestive heart failure of different aetiologies. The treatment was safe and without serious side effects. However, no beneficial effects on cardiac function or structure could be detected.  相似文献

The switching dynamics of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) high power vertical double diffused MOS (VDMOS) transistors with an inductive load has been investigated by device simulation. Unlike other conventional VDMOS devices, this device has drain contacts at the top surface. In general the switching behaviour of a power device during the unclamped inductive switching (UIS) test will determine the reliability of the power device as the energy stored in the inductor during the on state is dumped directly into the device when it is turned off. In this paper we compare the switching dynamics of the SOI VDMOS transistor with standard bulk silicon VDMOS device by doing numerical simulations. It is shown here, using 2D-device simulations that the power dissipated in the SOI VDMOS device during the UIS test is smaller by approximately a factor of 2 than in the standard bulk silicon VDMOSFET. The lower dissipation is due to the presence of the silicon film/buried oxide/substrate structure (this structure forms a SOI capacitor). In the case of the SOI VDMOS transistor the energy released from the inductor during the UIS test is stored to some extent in the SOI capacitor and partly dumped directly into the device. As a result the maximum current through the SOI device is separated in time from the maximum voltage across the device, unlike in the bulk case, thereby reducing the maximum power.  相似文献
