The thermal expansion of Y2SiO5 crystals has been measured for the principal crystallographic directions and two orthogonal directions in the (010) plane in the temperature range 25° to 200°C. This monoclinic crystal has strongly anisotropic expansions with coefficients which range from 0.6 × 10−6/°C for [100] to 11.4 × 10−6/°C for [001]. Third-order polynomials have been calculated from the expansion curves. Data for the β angle and cell volume as a function of temperature are also given. The thermal expansion of Y2SiO5 crystals is not affected by doping with 5% Tb.  相似文献

Stoichiometric polycrystalline InP, GaAs and (InGa)As were prepared by hydrogen reduction of phosphate and arsenate precursors precipitated from aqueous solution. These ill-defined phosphate and arsenate precipitates were dried and heated at elevated temperatures in a stream of pure hydrogen to produce the phosphides and arsenides. It was found necessary to introduce elemental phosphorus or arsenic in a heated region upstream of the reaction to establish the necessary pressure of P or As in the H2 stream to inhibit the dissociation of the newly formed InP or GaAs.  相似文献

Many observers have reported observations of green light emanating from severe thunderstorms in the midwestern United States. Spectral measurements have demonstrated that the dominant wavelength of the light is in the green portion of the visible spectrum and that this is not just a subjective impression. According to the theory proposed by Bohren and Fraser [Bull. Am. Meteorol. Soc. 74, 2185 (1993)], two effects combine to produce green light from thunderstorms. First, incident solar radiation is reddened by selective scattering by air molecules and particles in the atmosphere before it enters the cloud. Second, the radiation that passes through an optically thick cloud is attenuated in the longer wavelengths because of selective absorption by liquid water. Model calculations indicate that realizable combinations of mean drop diameters, mean liquid-water contents, and cloud thicknesses can satisfy the conditions required for shifting the dominant wavelength of the incident solar radiation to green.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a finite-difference time-domain formulation for active gain materials. Our scheme is based on a frequency-dependent conductivity. Experimental material gain is fitted with high accuracy to a multipole Lorentzian model using a semideterministic fitting algorithm. Because our model is an approximation to the full vectorial Maxwell's system of equations, we include carrier diffusion into the rate equations for a two-level system. The material gain is included into the standard set of Maxwell's equations by linking the frequency-dependent conductivity to the rate equations. Lasing is demonstrated for a vertical-cavity-surface-emitting-laser structure and photonic crystal lasers.  相似文献

Recent work in the literature has shown weighted variants of the classic portmanteau test for time series can be more powerful in many situations. In this article, we study the asymptotic distribution of weighted sums of the squared residual autocorrelations where both the sample size n and maximum lag of the statistic m grow large. Several weighting schemes are introduced, including a data‐adaptive statistic in which the weights are determined by a function of the sample partial autocorrelations. These statistics can provide more power than other portmanteau tests found in the literature and are much less sensitive to the choice of the maximum correlation lag. The efficacy of the proposed methods is further demonstrated through an analysis of Australian red wine sales.  相似文献

Redundancy in the simplest form of a two-dimensional TLM network is identified and a method of eliminating it is described. Results obtained using the non-redundant algorithm are compared with those derived from the standard, redundant algorithm. The non-redundant approach is extended to deal with non-uniform elemental capacitance; a cylindrical geometry is taken as an example of this. The scope for and benefits of rendering TLM diffusion models non-redundant are discussed.  相似文献

Underground coal miners who work in low-seam mines frequently handle materials in kneeling or squatting postures. To assess quadriceps and hamstring muscle demands in these postures, nine participants performed lateral load transfers in kneeling and squatting postures, during which electromyographic (EMG) data were collected. EMG activity was obtained at five points throughout the transfer for three quadriceps muscles and two hamstring muscles from each thigh. ANOVA results indicated that EMG data for nine of 10 thigh muscles were affected by an interaction between posture and angular position of the load lifted (p < 0.001). Muscles of the right thigh were most active during the lifting portion of the task (lifting a block from the participant's right) and activity decreased as the block was transferred to the left. Left thigh muscles showed the opposite pattern. EMG activity for the majority of thigh muscles was affected by the size of the base of support provided by different postures, with lower EMG activity observed with a larger base of support and increased activity in postures where base of support was reduced (p < 0.05). Thigh EMG activity was lowest in postures with fully flexed knees, which may explain worker preference for this posture. However, such postures are also associated with increased risk of meniscal damage. STATEMENT OF RELEVANCE: Kneeling and squatting postures are sometimes used for manual lifting activities, but are associated with increased knee injury risk. This paper examines the EMG responses of knee extensors/flexors to lifting in these postures, discusses the impact of posture and kneepads on muscle recruitment and explores the implications for work in such postures.  相似文献

In object‐oriented terms, one of the goals of integration testing is to ensure that messages from objects in one class or component are sent and received in the proper order and have the intended effect on the state of the objects that receive the messages. This research extends an existing single‐class testing technique to integration testing of multiple classes. The single‐class technique models the behaviour of a single class as a finite state machine, transforms the representation into a data flow graph that explicitly identifies the definitions and uses of each state variable of the class, and then applies conventional data flow testing to produce test case specifications that can be used to test the class. This paper extends those ideas to inter‐class testing by developing flow graphs, finding paths between pairs of definitions and uses, detecting some infeasible paths and automatically generating tests for an arbitrary number of classes and components. It introduces flexible representations for message sending and receiving among objects and allows concurrency among any or all classes and components. Data flow graphs are stored in a relational database and database queries are used to gather def‐use information. This approach is conceptually simple, mathematically precise, quite powerful and general enough to be used for traditional data flow analysis. This testing approach relies on finite state machines, database modelling and processing techniques and algorithms for analysis and traversal of directed graphs. The paper presents empirical results of the approach applied to an automotive system. Hand scaling is a physically demanding task responsible for numerous overexertion injuries in underground mining. Scaling requires the miner to use a long pry bar to remove loose rock, reducing the likelihood of rock fall injuries. The experiments described in this article simulated “rib” scaling (scaling a mine wall) from an elevated bucket to examine force generation and electromyographic responses using two types of scaling bars (steel and fiberglass-reinforced aluminum) at five target heights ranging from floor level to 176 cm. Ten male and six female subjects were tested in separate experiments. Peak and average force applied at the scaling bar tip and normalized electromyography (EMG) of the left and right pairs of the deltoid and erectores spinae muscles were obtained. Work height significantly affected peak prying force during scaling activities with highest force capacity at the lower levels. Bar type did not affect force generation. However, use of the lighter fiberglass bar required significantly more muscle activity to achieve the same force. Results of these studies suggest that miners scale points on the rock face that are below their knees, and reposition the bucket as often as necessary to do so.  相似文献
