Min and Agresti (2005) proposed random effect hurdle models for zero-inflated clustered count data with two-part random effects for a binary component and a truncated count component. In this paper, we propose new marginalized models for zero-inflated clustered count data using random effects. The marginalized models are similar to Dobbie and Welsh’s (2001) model in which generalized estimating equations were exploited to find estimates. However, our proposed models are based on a likelihood-based approach. A Quasi-Newton algorithm is developed for estimation. We use these methods to carefully analyze two real datasets.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the effects of drivers' age and low light on speed, lane keeping, and visual recognition of typical roadway stimuli. BACKGROUND: Poor visibility, which is exacerbated by age-related changes in vision, is a leading contributor to fatal nighttime crashes. There is little evidence, however, concerning the extent to which drivers recognize and compensate for their visual limitations at night. METHOD: Young, middle-aged, and elder participants drove on a closed road course in day and night conditions at a "comfortable" speed without speedometer information. During night tests, headlight intensity was varied over a range of 1.5 log units using neutral density filters. RESULTS: Average speed and recognition of road signs decreased significantly as functions of increased age and reduced illumination. Recognition of pedestrians at night was significantly enhanced by retroreflective markings of limb joints as compared with markings of the torso, and this benefit was greater for middle-aged and elder drivers. Lane keeping showed nonlinear effects of lighting, which interacted with task conditions and drivers' lateral bias, indicating that older drivers drove more cautiously in low light. CONCLUSION: Consistent with the hypothesis that drivers misjudge their visual abilities at night, participants of all age groups failed to compensate fully for diminished visual recognition abilities in low light, although older drivers behaved more cautiously than the younger groups. APPLICATION: These findings highlight the importance of educating all road users about the limitations of night vision and provide new evidence that retroreflective markings of the limbs can be of great benefit to pedestrians' safety at night.  相似文献

A technique amenable to remote sensing use which utilizes laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) properties of plants has been successfully used in the laboratory to identify five major plant types. These included herbaceous dicots, herbaceous monocots, conifers, hardwoods, and algae. Each of these plant types exhibited a characteristic LIF spectra when excited by a pulsed N2 laser emitting at 337 nm. Although monocots and dicots possess common fluorescence maxima at 440, 685, and 740 nm, they could be differentiated from one another by using the ratio of the square of the fluorescence intensity at 440 nm to the nonsquared intensity at 685 nm, i.e., (440)2/685. In all cases, monocots yielded a significantly higher ratio. Conifers have fluorescence maxima at 440, 525, and 740 nm but none at 685 nm. Hardwoods exhibited fluorescence at 440, 525, 685, and 740 nm. Algae had very low fluorescence at 440 nm, no fluorescence at 525 nm, and fluorescence maxima at 685 and 740 nm. For algae, the ratio of the fluorescence intensity at 685 nm to that at 740 nm was much greater than that for monocots, dicots, and hardwoods. The potential use of the LIF technique for individual species identification is suggested.  相似文献

Summary In this paper we study the generative capacity of EOL forms from two different points of view. On the one hand, we consider the generative capacity of special EOL forms which one could call linear like and context free like, establishing the existence of a rich variety of non-regular sub-EOL language families. On the other hand, we propose the notion of a generator L of a language family We mean by this that any synchronized EOL system generating L generates — if understood as an EOL form — all languages of . The microstructures and microhardness of laser processed Fe-Cr surface alloys were investigated as functions of composition (5 to 50 wt % Cr) and melt penetration depth (100 to 1500 m). The transformation structures were characterized by optical metallography and thin foil transmission electron microscopy. The microstructures were ferritic irrespective of compositions and melt depths. The alloys containing chromium up to 12 % (within the -phase field) exhibited a massive ferritic morphology while the alloys containing chromium more than 12% (beyond the -phase field) showed an equiaxed ferritic morphology. Transmission electron microscopy studies revealed that the substructure of ferrite consisted of dislocations, the dislocation density increased with increased chromium content. Melt depth, unlike composition, did not have a significant effect on the morphology and substructure of ferrite grains. Small amounts of -carbide and M3C carbide phases were observed in these alloys. Both the carbides were found to decrease with an increase in the chromium of the fusion zone. Microhardness measurements indicated that there was an increase in hardness with an increase in the chromium content of the alloy.  相似文献

Single-molecule manipulation instruments, such as optical traps and magnetic tweezers, frequently use video tracking to measure the position of a force-generating probe. The instruments are calibrated by comparing the measured probe motion to a model of Brownian motion in a harmonic potential well; the results of calibration are estimates of the probe drag, α, and spring constant, κ. Here, we present both time- and frequency-domain methods to accurately and precisely extract α and κ from the probe trajectory. In the frequency domain, we discuss methods to estimate the power spectral density (PSD) from data (including windowing and blocking), and we derive an analytical formula for the PSD which accounts both for aliasing and the filtering intrinsic to video tracking. In the time domain, we focus on the Allan variance (AV): we present a theoretical equation for the AV relevant to typical single-molecule setups and discuss the optimal manner for computing the AV from experimental data using octave-sampled overlapping bins. We show that, when using maximum-likelihood methods to fit to the data, both the PSD and AV approaches can extract α and κ in an unbiased and low-error manner, though the AV approach is simpler and more robust.  相似文献
