AMADEUS: advanced manipulation for deep underwater sampling   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
AMADEUS is a dexterous subsea robot hand incorporating force and slip contact sensing, using fluid filled tentacles for fingers. Hydraulic pressure variations in each of three flexible tubes (bellows) in each finger create a bending moment, and consequent motion or increase in contact force during grasping. Such fingers have inherent passive compliance, no moving parts, and are naturally depth pressure-compensated, making them ideal for reliable use in the deep ocean. In addition to the mechanical design, development of the hand has also considered closed loop finger position and force control, coordinated finger motion for grasping, force and slip sensor development/signal processing, and reactive world modeling/planning for supervisory `blind grasping'. Initially, the application focus is for marine science tasks, but broader roles in offshore oil and gas, salvage, and military use are foreseen  相似文献

The mercury (Hg) poisoning of Minamata Bay of Japan widely activated a global attention to Hg toxicity and its potential consequences to the aquatic ecosystem and human health. This has resulted to an increased need for a dynamic assembly, contextualization, and quantification of both the current state-of-the-art and approaches for understanding the cause-and-effect relationships of Hg exposure. Thus, the objective of this present review is to provide both hazardous toxic properties and toxicological update of Hg, focusing on how it ultimately affects the aquatic biota to potentially produce human health effects. Primarily, we discussed processes that relate to Hg exposure, including immunological aspects and risk assessment, vulnerability, toxicokinetics, and toxicodynamics, using edible fish, swordfish (Xiphias gladius), as a model. In addition, we summarized available information about Hg concentration limits set by different governmental agencies, as recognized by national and international standardization authorities.  相似文献

Human vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1) is a sialylated endothelial cell adhesion molecule mediating the initial L-selectin-independent interactions between lymphocytes and endothelial cells in man. In this work we cloned and characterized mouse VAP-1 (mVAP-1) and produced an anti-mVAP-1 mAb against a recombinant mVAP-1 fusion protein. The isolated cDNA encodes a novel 84.5-kDa mouse molecule. The anti-mVAP-1 mAb stained high endothelial venules in peripheral lymph nodes, and smooth muscle cells and lamina propria vessels in gut. During immunoblotting, this anti-mVAP-1 mAb recognized a 110/220-kDa Ag, suggesting that mVAP-1 is a dimer. Since mVAP-1 has significant sequence identity to members of a family of enzymes called the copper-containing amine oxidases, we showed that mVAP-1 possesses monoamine oxidase activity. Thus, mVAP-1 is the first mouse membrane-bound amine oxidase identified at the molecular level. Based on the 83% identity between the isolated cDNA and human VAP-1 cDNA, the expression pattern, the molecular mass, and the enzyme activity against monoamines, the cloned molecule represents a mouse homologue of human VAP-1. Cloning of mVAP-1 provides a valuable tool for in vivo studies of the significance of VAP-1 for lymphocyte-endothelial cell interactions and of the possible relationship between leukocyte adhesion and amine oxidase activity.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Primary juvenile glaucoma is a rare form of glaucoma that typically affects individuals between 3 and 20 years of ages and is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. One gene responsible for this condition has been localized to the 1q21-q31 region of chromosome 1. To investigate the clinical features of this form of glaucoma, the authors have examined the affected members of five pedigrees demonstrating genetic linkage to the 1q21-q31 locus. METHODS: Clinical characterization of 23 affected patients was performed. Genetic linkage to the 1q21-q31 locus was confirmed by segregation of the disease trait in each pedigree with genetic markers located in the 1q21-q31 region. RESULTS: The clinical features of affected members of the five pedigrees presented are generally homogeneous. The average age of diagnosis was 18.5 years (range, 5-30 years), and the average initial intraocular pressure was 38.5 mmHg (range, 30-53 mmHg). Eighty-seven percent of affected individuals were myopic and 83% of affected individuals required surgical treatment for glaucoma. There were no uniformly associated systemic or ocular conditions. One possible nonpenetrant carrier was identified and a difference in phenotypic expression of the presumed disease gene was observed in a pair of affected monozygotic twins. We also identified two pedigrees with juvenile glaucoma and three pedigrees affected by the pigment dispersion syndrome that are not genetically linked to the 1q21-q31 region. CONCLUSION: The form of juvenile glaucoma caused by a gene located in the q21-q31 region of chromosome 1 is generally phenotypically homogeneous. The severe elevation of intraocular pressure typically seen in affected patients suggests the product of the predisposing gene may participate in the outflow function of the eye.  相似文献
